Help...My Wife Is A Spy

Chapter 49 - Trust Me

Halia's taxi soon pulled up next to a familiar car parked under a tree.

It was Jackson's.

Halia had definitely arrived at the right place...

Halia paid the taxi driver and quickly got out of the car. In front of her was a path that led to a little cabin. She slowly approached, hiding behind a tree to check that the coast was clear as she got closer.

There was no one in sight.

Halia walked over to the cabin and peeked in through the window.

As she looked in, she quickly spotted Jackson sitting inside, surrounded by a bunch of tools. There was no one else with him.

What was he doing?

Halia wiped the window a little and tried to look carefully at what was happening inside the cabin. That was when she noticed the vest on Jackson's body.

Immediately, her heart began to pound and her palms got sweaty.

"It's a bomb," she whispered to herself.

On Jackson's c.h.e.s.t, there was a timer. The number on it now read '22'.

Halia immediately called Sean, "Jackson has a bomb strapped to his c.h.e.s.t. There's no one else around. I'm going in to help him defuse it."

"Don't act recklessly. If you are unsure about something, immediately leave. I will call the SWAT team right now."

"We don't have time. There are only 22 minutes left! We are 30 minutes from downtown."

Halia then hung up the phone and ran straight into the cabin without hesitation.

As soon as the door flew open, Jackson looked up in shock.

"Halia, what are you doing here?" he asked. She was the last person he wanted to see.

Halia immediately knelt down beside the man and started looking at the wires on his body. He had already undone a few screws and cut 2 wires, but the timer was still ticking.

"There's one wire left," she said as she scanned her eyes across the bomb in front of her.

Jackson nodded as she looked at the serious woman in front of him. Halia's hair was tied up, but she was so close that he could still smell the shampoo from her hair. It was oddly comforting.

Halia carefully ran her hand across the wires on Jackson's body and tried to trace where each one was connected.

The timer continued to tick. It had now reached '17'.

"You should get out of here," Jackson said.

"I've looked at every single wire carefully. I can't find the last one," he said calmly. "Please...leave before this goes off. You shouldn't be here."

Halia looked into the man's eyes. "I'm not leaving you here," she said firmly. She then grabbed the man's shoulder and turned him around.

"What are you doing?" Jackson asked.

Halia grabbed a pair of scissors and carefully cut a slit in the back of the man's vest.

"Bingo!" she cheered.

Hidden inside the back of the vest were another bundle of wires.

"That sneaky b*stard! Did he hide wires in the back of the vest?"Jackson asked.

"Sit still!" Halia ordered as she carefully checked the wires.

Jackson looked down at the timer. It now read '12'.

Jackson could sense the concentration from the woman behind him. Her breathing was loud, but it was at a steady, controlled pace. That's when Jackson realized, from the moment Halia stepped foot into the cabin, she had been calm and confident. Did this woman actually know what she was doing?

At that moment, he saw Halia grab a pair of pliers from the floor.

"Are you sure?" he asked.

"Trust me," Halia replied calmly.

Jackson held his breath as he looked down at the timer once more. It was now down to single digits: '5'.

He knew he had no choice but to trust Halia. After all, he had pretty much given up hope on finding the last wire before she arrived.

While he was deep in thought, he suddenly heard a snip behind him.

Jackson's heart almost jumped out of his c.h.e.s.t.

At that moment, everything fell silent. All he heard was his heartbeat and Halia's gentle breathing.

The timer had stopped ticking!

Jackson breathed out and turned to look at Halia in surprise.

Halia remained calm. "It's been defused," she said.

Jackson was shocked. Who was this woman? Sure, she said she studied mechanical and chemical engineering and that she majored in weaponry and explosives, but he struggled with this bomb even though he was an experienced arms dealer. How did she manage to defuse it so calmly?
