Hessian Does A Thing

Chapter 2 - Grandpa Zel

5 years later

It had been 5 years since Hessian arrived in this world. It had taken him a full year to properly feel out the dimensions enough to view other realities and worlds through his mind. Then it had taken him another year to finally figure out how to get his internet to connect to the multiverse. If he had learned structural analysis, then it would have been much quicker. Unfortunately Hessian is an idiot.

"This is the life."

The protagonist was currently chillin on his bean bag; playing borderlands 3 on his PC, while the flatscreen displayed a marathon of some kind of space comedy.

Surprisingly, the room was well kept. Hessian always kept his room decently clean, despite always eating in it. He threw an empty bag of ch.i.p.s towards his trash bin.

"By the root, I love this gun" he said as he spammed bullets at the random bandit.

He had been using the infinity pistol for the last 10 levels since he got it. Just the fact that it never ran out of ammo was perfect for a lazy guy like him in the early game. Hessian paused the game as he was deep in thought.

"I wonder...." he muttered as he opened his palm. After a brief moment, a copy of the infinity materialized in his hand. Hessian had a faint smile on his face as he inspected the firearm. The gun looked exactly like in game with it's 2 barrels and infinity symbol plastered on it.

He stood up to open his window. Used his dominant hand to hold the gun and used his other hand to keep it steady. He took aim at a random tree. Looking through the scope, he pulled the trigger

The tree turned into swiss cheese as Hessian noticed the gun had little to no recoil. This surprised him, and also made him a little happy that the gun worked properly.

"Well that was cool" he commented as he happily closed his window and placed the firearm on a desk. He plopped back down onto his bean bag to think of what else he could do. He hadn't ever really tested the limits of his magic before. In the past years, all he would use it for was provisions such as food, water, and toiletries. Occasionally money to pay off bills and furnature for his house which was a pain to move with his kid body.

"Can I make a kaleidostick?" He muttered out loud. But then he shook his head.

"Nah, I'd rather not be a magical girl." But then again, what if he could turn something else into something similar to kaleidoscope. He began to brainstorm on items and weapons that he could use to become similar to a kaleidostick. After a few minutes, a light bulb practically lit up over his head.

"That's it!" Snapping his finger, he focused on his palm. Appearing out of thin air, a black belt appeared out of thin air. The belt seemed to be linked together with metal sections similar to a utility belt. At the center of the belt was a silver buckle holding a black gem. He focused on the jewel within the buckle to have the same properties as a kaleidostick.

"Hmm, did it not work?" he muttered as he inspected the onyx jewel.

"Now this is a first" he felt alarmed as he turned around to the source of the voice.

Behind his shoulder was an old man who looked to be in his 60s. His red eyes ignored the 12 year old as he continued to inspect the recently made belt. It took only a moment for Hessian to realize the identity of the old man as his face paled. It became even paler when the old wizard grinned.

"How would you like to be my new apprentice?" The Wizard Marshall asked as Hessian jumped away from the madman.

"I REFUSE TO BE TURNED INTO A MAGICAL GIRL!" He exclaimed as a tanto appeared in his hand. He prepared to end his life through seppuku. Choosing to die with his dignity intact, he thrusted the blade towards his stomach. Unfortunately the old man was too quick and grabbed his arm before he could finish his suicide.

"Now, now. Let's not do anything that would waste both our times." he said as Hessian was dismayed at his failed suicide attempt. "I know you wouldn't actually die, so don't think you can run from me as a soul to remake your body someplace else. I won't turn you into a magical girl." he stated causing Hessian to become shocked as the old man knew what he was planning. The Wizard ignored his shocked face as he continued.

"Indeed, I just want a new entertai-apprentice and you are perfect for the position." he grinned and held up the belt, allowing it to dangle from his hand. "This here is truly impressive. However it won't work. My kaleidostick isn't so simple that you can just stick it inside of something else." he stated as he let go of Hessian.

"However, if you accept my offer. I can make this work for you." He said as he dangled the buckle with his wrist, peaking Hessian's interest. Hessian took the moment to consider the positives. On one hand, if he accepted then he could have a proper teacher for mastering the kaleidoscope. On the other hand, he would have to deal with the old vampire's antics.

"I accept on one condition." he said turning back to the Wizard Marshall. He narrowed his eyes and spoke his demand.

"BULLSHIT!"Hessian yelled as he dropped his controller in disbelief.

"I believe this is what the young ones call skill" Zelretch said from his left as the two sat on their own bean bags in front of the flatscreen.

"I believe this is what the universe calls BS" Hessian retorted as he took drink from his soda. "You literally got red shells every single time! It makes zero sense, and the only time you got anything different was at the end where you got a blue shell!." he nearly pulled his hair out at that.

The two had been playing Mario Kart for the last hour. Hessian's only condition was that the old vampire had to defeat him 3 times. Hessian believed his years of being a shut-in gamer would pull through, but he wasn't prepared for the old man to have EX rank luck.

"I believe that was win number three" The wizard commented as he took a bite from his mini sandwich.

"geh" Hessian palmed his face and sighed "Alright, you win." he conceded to be the old man's apprentice. The old vampire grinned as he stood up.

"Well then, from now on call me Grandpa Zel!" he exclaimed causing the younger magician to jump.

"Wait, I thought you said it was an apprenticeship not an adoption." Hessian said with a raised brow. Zelretch just waved a hand.

"It's basically what it means to be apprenticed under me. You will now be my grandson, Hessian Aversis Schweinorg!" he declared as Hessian just shook his head

"Fine, nice to meet you then Grandpa Zel." he said defeatedly, which his Grandpa grinned at.

"That's the spirit! Now then, I'll be taking this to work on and will be back when it's finished" Zelretch said as he grabbed the kaleido belt and began to walk out.

"Ah, hold up!" Hessian called out to stop the man as he materialized something else in his hand. "Can you integrate this into it?" he asked while holding out the cylindrical device.

"Hmm, it's possible I suppose. Might make it more bulkier though" the old man said as he scanned the quick-fix medigun with his red eyes.

"That's fine, how long will it take?"

"Don't be so impatient, it will be done when it's ready." the old man waved his hand as he left leaving the 12 year old magician alone.

Hessian just shook his head as he went back to his daily routine of chilling until he heard his new grandpa's voice echoing in the distance. "AND LEARN SOME BASIC MAGECRAFT BY THE TIME I RETURN!"

He wondered if the old man wouldn't return until he actually followed that order.
