Chapter 24 “Blonde Lady Part 1”

The three approached quickly, closing up to inspect the body bag since it was left open and unattended.

“How can it be empty?” Dawn was surprised because body bags had a special storage place for them, which means this had been used prior.

But without giving any of them time to contemplate the issue, the other drawers had suddenly started to rattle. It’s as if the occupants inside were clawing at their respective bags and container.

“It’s haunted!” Dawn swiftly pulled the two backward to gain distance since the idea of the walking corpse gave him the willies. He’s been scared a lot lately so these ideas kept coming up involuntarily even if he was a sane human being.

Oddly enough, the original rowdy sound from the cabinets had grown fainter as soon as they were further away. Though the scraping sound remains, it’s much weaker.

“What’s so strange about this? Do you not see the big brothers inside the cabinets are trying to come out? Are we going to stick around for that?” Boink jumps up to Dawn’s shoulder and urgently shakes the guy’s head in a pleading manner.

The three of them slowly retreated into the corridor before Shadow explained, “Undead magic is a skill that is sometimes used in the West so it’s strange for someone in that group set to come so far. Do they have a death wish or something in trying this at a hospital? I doubt the Monster Alliance would shield an individual like this.”

Dawn internally wiped a layer of cold sweat from his forehead after hearing the cat lady’s complaint. Dealing with a zombie apocalypse was not how he imagined this trip to be.

“Do you think it might be the new tenant’s doing?” He asks out of reflex.

Shadow’s brow furrowed up at this possibility, “If this is the case, then this tenant may not be a good person. Undead magic desecrates the dead. If they are trying this at the hospital, the commotion is bound to blow up in the news and some more. Not only that, those hunters are going to come in force after they get wind of what’s going on here.”

Boink also nodded grimly: “This time I think Big Cat is right. If I have to live with that kind of a person then I won’t feel comfortable anyway. Who can stand dealing with dead bodies everyday anyways?”

Hearing the attitude of his companions, Dawn’s expectations for the new tenant was also significantly reduced: “Then why don’t you go home? Consider this mission a failure…. But what about the bodies in the morgue?”

Dawn had the idea of giving up at this point and bolting it out of there, but the nudging guilt of being slightly responsible if he did nothing kept biting at his consciousness.

“I only know about undead magic, but I don’t use it so putting down the rising corpses is beyond my ability.” Shadow expressed her powerlessness before turning to the hamster.

“What you looking at me for? I haven’t been abroad yet so I certainly don’t know.” Boink crossed those paws around the chest and shrugged his shoulder, “Do you want me to search it up on the net?”

Dawn was shocked: “You can find these things on the net?”

“Probably not, but then we don’t have any options left do we? Worth a try.” Boink said and helplessly spread his paws.

Both of the tenants here didn’t even consider Dawn having a solution; after all, the guy was still a mere mortal a few days ago. However, despite the lack of belief, the guy still opened his mouth nevertheless: “If not, we can try pulling out one of those ‘walking’ dead and put a knife into their head? Maybe that will quiet them down like in the movies.”

The two monsters exchanged a look over that remark, then got the same thought of it being plausible. Indeed, zombie movies are always said to go for the head. Who knows if this was true or not, but it sure as hell was better than doing nothing and letting a horde build up. The issue was who’s going to do the deed?

“I’m not going, I’m too small to hold a knife.” Boink preemptively took a stand.
