7. I Am a Ghost

Ji Ran felt that although Lu Zhen was standing outside, it seemed that he could see what he was doing inside. Ji Ran just finished taking a bath and was trying to get out of the bathtub himself, and Lu Zhen floated in.

Yes, he floated in. Although he looked like he was walking, he made absolutely no sound whenever he took a step!

When Lu Zhen came in, Ji Ran was standing with both hands on the edge of the bathtub, trying to climb out of it on his own. But when he saw Lu Zhen, he immediately froze as he thought it was embarrassing. However, they were both men. If he tried to cover himself up with a towel, it would make him look feminine. So what we saw was a naked man half out of the bathtub and a man staring at each other.

Ji Ran felt awkward, but Lu Zhen didn’t feel the same. He looked Ji Ran up and down before he walked over with no changes in his facial expression. Without even saying anything, he carried Ji Ran out. It all happened so fast that before Ji Ran realized what was going on, Lu Zhen was already helping him put on his clothes.

“I, I can do it by myself.”

Ji Ran couldn’t figure out whether the man in front of him was a human or a ghost. Being taken such good care of, not only did he not enjoy it, he felt horrified. But when he thought about it carefully, if this man was a member of the Lu Family but he wasn’t the one Ji Ran was supposed to be married to, how would he do such things for him so openly? Did he fake his death? Not to mention that it didn’t make any sense, it wouldn’t be so easy to fool the Emperor, right?

Ji Ran let his mind wander freely while reaching out to stop Lu Zhen, but his hand was grasped by Lu Zhen.

“Your waist is injured. Besides, it’s a husband’s duty to take good care of his wife. We’ve even slept together, so there is no need for you to feel embarrassed.” Lu Zhen deliberately emphasized the word “slept” to indicate that there was sex involved here.

Ji Ran was not stupid, so he immediately got the implication that came with the emphasized word, which made him blush.

While Lu Zhen was talking, he had already helped Ji Ran put on his clothes.

When Lu Zhen saw the old and shabby clothes that Ji Ran was wearing, a thought flashed through his mind, but he didn’t say anything. He just carried Ji Ran out of the room.

“Gosh!” Finally Ji Ran came to his senses. He wrapped his hands around Lu Zhen’s neck in a hurry and shouted, “I can walk myself. Why are you carrying me again?”

Lu Zhen retorted with just one sentence, “Your waist doesn’t hurt anymore?”

“Then you can support me. I’m a man, and normally only a woman should be carried by a man like this!” Ji Ran mumbled.

Lu Zhen grinned, “Your butt doesn’t hurt anymore?”

This time, Ji Ran didn’t know how to answer him and his face became red again.

‘Is this jerk flirting with me?’

‘Seriously?!’

“F*ck!’

Ji Ran blushed all the way from the bathroom to the bedroom until Lu Zhen put him on the bed.

“Rest if you’re not feeling well,” Lu Zhen said as he sat down on the edge of the bed. “What you want to ask me about is my family?”

Now that Lu Zhen brought it up himself, Ji Ran could only nod.

“My family…” Lu Zhen started to introduce the Lu Family to Ji Ran.

Although the Lu Family was poor, it was a large and growing family. Lu Zhen’s father got married twice. His first wife, who was surnamed Li, died when she gave birth to Lu Zhen. Later, he met his second and current wife, who was addressed as “Granny Lu” by the people in the family .

Granny Lu had three sons and two daughters. The elder daughter was named Lu Shuqing and the younger one was named Lu Shuqian. Both of them got married. Lu Zhen was Granny Lu’s eldest son. Her second son was named Lu Changgeng, her third son was named Lu Changqing, and her youngest son was Lu Changyuan. Both her second son and third son were married and her youngest son was a student at school. Her youngest son was quite promising as he had passed the entry-level examination to study at a college at a very young age. And the whole family had high expectations for him.

“Lu Changgeng and Lu Changqing are both blessed with several children. The boy you met today was Lu Changqing’s youngest son. His name is Lu Ziqian and he is six years old.” When he said that his two younger brothers both had kids, Lu Zhen stared outside the window. His gaze was deep, but if one took a closer look at it, they would find that there was only indifference there.

“I met a pregnant woman this morning. Who is she?” ‘Gosh, they had no birth control here in ancient times?’ Ji Ran sighed and asked.

“That’s Leng Xianglian, Lu Changgeng’s wife…”

Speaking of that, Lu Zhen continued to explain to Ji Ran about his complicated family tree.

For starters, Lu Changgeng’s first child was a boy whose name was Lu Ziyuan, and who was nine years old. He also had a daughter, Lu Wanxue, who was eleven years old, almost at the age of marriage at ancient time. And his wife Leng Xianglian was now almost six months pregnant.

And, Lu Changqing and his wife Gao Hui had three sons and one daughter. Their daughter was Lu Wanru and she was almost the same age as Lu Wanxue. Their birthdays were just a few months away. Their two older sons were Lu Ziming who had turned 12 years old at the beginning of the year. Lu Ziping, who would turn 10 years old at the end of this autumn. The youngest one was Lu Ziqian, who Ji Ran had met today.

“My family is a large one. Although each of my brothers has his own separate yard, we still share almost everything. For example, we all eat with our parents in their yard,” Lu Zhen paused and turned to Ji Ran. “My stepmother is quite mean. As for my brothers, except for the youngest one who cares only about studying, they are all not easy to get along with. Just like the saying goes, the apple never falls far from the tree. And their wives are as worse as them. As for me, I left home when I was very young. Had I not…, I wouldn’t have come back. Anyway, right now you won’t be able to eat in our own yard. So you’ll have to eat with them for a while. I’m really sorry for this.”

Upon hearing everything that Lu Zhen said, Ji Ran’s inner thought was:

‘It’s so complicated. I can’t remember any of it. What should I do?!’

“You left home when you were very young. Is it because your life here was too hard for you?” asked Ji Ran.

“A fortune-teller said that I’m a jinx. My birth caused my mother’s death. Everyone thought of me as a person who would bring only bad luck. And they all tried their best to avoid me,” Lu Zhen talked about it calmly, and the corners of his mouth even turned upwards. However, Ji Ran felt that Lu Zhen was just pretending that he didn’t care. When Lu Zhen turned his head, he saw Ji Ran looking at him sympathetically. Lu Zhen patted his head and said, “Alright. Now you should get some rest.”

Ji Ran still had one last question that bothered him the most. He pointed at the spirit tablet on the table and asked, “Is that really your spirit tablet?”

Lu Zhen nodded.

Ji Ran’s fingers quivered and he swallowed, “Then, are you a human or a ghost? Don’t tell me that you’re a ghost!” Seeing that Lu Zhen had a faint smile on his face again, Ji Ran quickly said, “Don’t make me guess again!”

Lu Zhen, who had always worn a poker face, finally couldn’t hold it anymore. He couldn’t help laughing, “Yes.”

“Hmm?” Ji Ran’s eyes widened. “Yes what?” His train of thought was interrupted by Lu Zhen’s laughing.

“Yes what?” Lu Zhen shook his head. “Come on, I’m answering your question. Yes, I’m a ghost.”

“You’re a ghost. Ghost, Ghost…” Ji Ran’s eyelids quivered uncontrollably that they were about to twitch. He was right about it; yet it was still too overwhelming. In the end, as he failed to catch his breath, he rolled his eyes and passed out.

“Thud” and Ji Ran bumped his head against a bedpost. Ji Ran, who had fainted, woke up on impact.

“Oooooowwwwww!” He sat straight up and threw himself into Lu Zhen’s arms directly.

Lu Zhen took the chance to hold him into his arms. And he was laughing so loud that the house seemed to be shaking.
