How To Survive In A Isekai World [On Break]

Chapter 19 - Awakening of the Lion King

In all honesty, it would have been impossible for Vincent and his group to get out of the camp if it hadn't been for the Gemini Stones as well as the unreliable guards at the west entrance. Those guys were stuck deeply inside their dreams and didn't realize that a group of four children had passed by them in a matter of seconds. There was an incident where a muddled person walked out of a tent and then crossed their path. But under the cover of the night, they just looked like a bunch of drunk bastards carrying someone towards their place. Nothing unusual.

The children were tensed up to the maximum and got scared everytime they heard sudden movements on either side and only when they finally reached the outside, did they heave sighs of relief and their muscles loosened up a little as well.

The other life-saving factor was the Gemini Stones. Right now, the night reigned over the sky and engulfed it in complete darkness. The moonshine made it barely possible to see one's own body and immediate viscinity and thanks to the camps bright lighting torches they could reach the hill from before. But after that everything outside a two meter radius was coloured in black colour. Looking for directions? How if everything looks the same!

Yet they had to hurry as the old man's warnings still rang in their minds. They had to somehow get Panda to safety before his wounds started bleeding again. And by now, that dangerous guard should have already awoken from his knock-out and alerted the rest of the bandits! They had no time to spare and needed to hurry!

The Gemini Stones came in different colours and they were in possession of two different kinds. One for the way to the camp, and the other leading them back to the rest of their friends. It was quite easy to use. The light inside the stone glowed repeatedly and gathered at one of its sides depending on own's position in relation to the position of its counterpart. Like magnetic dust, the light particles mystically moved inside that stone and always concentrated on one side, probably because of the minimal but shorter distance to their twin particles.

They had a long way to go and it wouldn't be any easier now that they had to prop up Panda as well. But the children didn't have any better alternatives so instead of wasting more time they just set off.

On the way Claire couldn't help but ask Charlotte finally the question that was on her mind as well as on Vincent's:

"Charle, can you explain now? How did you just appear here? Shouldn't you be with the others? How did they agree to let you go? "

Charlotte shrugged her shoulders at the questions and told them:

"I sneaked off."

Vincent and Claire were both speechless at this response. Without any attempt to deny anything she just confessed it. For a moment, both were too stunned at her straightforward answer and couldn't come up with any particular response.

"And for the protocol, I don't regret a thing. You saw how that guard acted. You should be thankful that I did it or else you might be stuck there for a longer time than you bargained for!"

They were all silent for a moment and ... it was true. The situation would have probably turned for the worse, even surpassing their worst-case scenarios if it hadn't been for Charlotte creating that timely opportunity.

"Thanks!", Vincent and Claire said in unison full of sincerity after they processed the information.

"Come on, it wasn't much. If you praise me too much I will turn red, haha!", Charlotte didn't reject their goodwill though.

Just like the others, she had been afraid all the time to get exposed and found out when strolling around the camp. Since their departure, Charlotte had followed their trails throughout their journey till the camp. It wasn't hard considering that there wasn't much life in this part of the forest. Even now on their way back, they couldn't hear or detect any other lifeforms. As if a veil had covered the whole forest and silenced any noises except for their own. It created a scary void, a void they had to pass through.

She just needed to follow the general direction the group had taken as well as the sounds of their movements and noises. When Vincent asked Charlotte why she didn't contact and join them, she gave another strange answer.

She thought it would be cooler that way! Just like a hunter, following its prey, she couldn't let go of that exciting feeling, trying to follow the group without being discovered.

The rest was a piece of cake because the bandit camp had a lax supervision and most people were drunk and not alarmed on the west side of the camp.

While the group was busy with examining the wooden cages, Charlotte got bored and tried to get a better overview of the camp.

Aside from the tents people used to sleep in, she found some wooden storages filled with food. The guards were asleep on the ground, the scent of alcohol still in the air.

She saw people moving from place to place sometimes, most needed to let out some bodily fluids. That was when she was most excited and guarded. She moved like a shadow, sticking close to corners and sites that were difficult to see.

She managed to get her hands on a small dagger she showed off very proudly and kept it in her pockets. By the time she had returned, she couldn't find Vincent's group anymore but saw Panda strolling around the entrance of the big building in the centre of the camp. She was about to move closer to him when she noticed someone closing on him from the side. Both sides got entangled with each other and the next thing Charlotte remembered was how they both walked into building.

Her heart flow accelerated and her breathing quickened. She knew deep inside that something very very had happened and that she needed to act fast. Time was short, and she was sure that they had to get away from this place. Her dagger was good looking but was it enough against someone like Gorst? A grown a.d.u.l.t? Probably not.

She acted quickly and found several weapons on people that she could try to steal. She finally decided on the hammer because most swords seemed even bigger and heavier in comparison to her body size.

The stealing part was as easy as taking a lolly from a baby. The person she stole it from hardly sensed anything amiss. The only negative part Charlotte had to endure was the horrible stench that exuded from that guy's body. She needed to get quite close to him to take that hammer away.

Well after that, she realised she was still too weak to just carry around that hammer. She had underestimated the weight and it took some while until she finally reached the entrance.

Adrenalin had kicked in inside her body a long time ago, and when the supposed enemy was standing with his back against her, there wasn't much going on in her mind except for:

"Let go of my friends you bastard!!!"

She took her chances, lifted that hammer with unknown powers and hit hard against that person's head with everything she could summon forth.

One thing led to the next and here they were now.

Vincent and Claire were both shocked and could also sense from Charlottes voice, how frightened and scared she must been in that moment. It was astonishing and praiseworthy how quickly she had reacted and did her best to confront the unavoidable danger.

They didn't talk after that and only had on thought in their minds:

Escape!

"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!!!!", but just in that instant a horrifying shout sounded out from the direction of the camp! It was so loud that they thought the person shouting must have been right behind them even though that was impossible of course.

The children flinched and knew that the lion had finally woken up from its deep slumber! This gave them all the more reason to hurry and warn the rest of their friends!

...

A couple of minutes ago

Inside the camp, on the central plaza, inside the mansion, on the third floor, right next to the big bed the three-headed beast moved its heads restlessly, finally the middle head looked up and sniffed the air with it's nose. It felt something was amiss. Something it couldn't quite grasp, which made the beast feel very uneasy. But next to that unknown feeling, there was another more familiar scent in the air! An intruder had entered the mansion!

"Grrrrr, houuuuuuuul!", it growled threateningly and howled at this intruder, after which its fellow heads imitated it and also discovered the intruder.

The shout sounded out from within the mansion but quickly covered the entirety of the camp. Yet, only those near the origin of that shout realised that something had happened and a bad premonition already began sprouting in their minds.

"SHUT UP TIBERIUS!", a strict but clear, brief but absolute voice commanded from the bed!

The person on the bed was the first person who was affected by Tiberius' alarm. The loud shouts still rang in his head, but his wrath wasn't directed at this loyal servant of his. It was the threat detected by his hellhound that he wanted to tear apart and vent his fury over and unleash his rage upon!

The next moment his gaze quickly moved towards his desk, looking for his most important items but ... they weren't there! Both the book and the key weren't there! Fear grew in his heart for a second, but in the next, deep hatred rose up and drowned out the fear!

"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!!! Where is it !!!!!", a loud shout came out of his throat, this time with an even bigger impact than the hellhound's. If the people of the camp hadn't realised that something had happened before, now every single soul would know that chaos was going to unfold tonight!

Tiberius cowered back in fear because it clearly felt the changes happening to its master standing in front of him!

Veins popped up on the skin of that person and glowed in an eerie crimson colour! His eyes also became fiery red and his usually blond hair turned to a deeper shade of red.

It's been a long time now since someone had dared to trespass on his territory, maybe the people forgot what respect meant! What fear meant! Then it was time to make them remember!

Time for slaughter!
