Chapter 1

Chapter 1

“From now on, you only have two choices: Obey me like a dog, or be wiped out like an ant.”

Boom—

The sound of the explosion sounded on the TV news, followed by the panicked calls for help from the pedestrians at the scene. The sharp sirens approached from far away, and thick black smoke obscured the sky.

“According to our reporter, a robbery occurred at Shenhai City Bank at 10:30 this morning. There was an explosion on the scene, and many people were injured. At present, one of the four robbers has been arrested, and the other three are still on the run…”

The TV screen froze, and the broadcast of the female host on the screen came to an abrupt end.

The interrogation room returned to an unnerving dead silence, and with a snap, a thick file was slammed on the table.

“Zhang Zhao, male, 32 years old, a B-level evolutionist, registered two years ago.”

The interrogator read out the basic information on the first page of the file, then raised his head and looked at the man who was handcuffed to the electric chair opposite: “Five days ago, you and your accomplices robbed a bank and caused an explosion, injuring 17 pedestrians at the scene, but fortunately no one died.”

All four walls of the interrogation room were inlaid with explosion-proof steel plates, pinhole cameras were everywhere, and a solid steel door was inlaid with an inconspicuous metal plate—Shenhai City Radiation Evolution Supervision Department, Third interrogation room.

In the middle of the interrogation room, there was a huge iron chair from which millions of volts of high-voltage electricity could pass at any time. Zhang Zhao, whose hands were handcuffed to it, raised his eyebrows at the interrogator with undisguised contempt:

“Is this how you, as an ordinary person, should speak to an evolutionist like me, Mr. Interrogator?”

The interrogator took a deep breath and forcibly suppressed his emotions.

“Answer my question, Zhang Zhao. You are a partner in a consulting firm, and your income is very high. Why risk being arrested by our supervision department for robbing a bank?”

Zhang Zhao seemed to have heard an interesting joke: “Why? Of course, because of boredom.”

The interrogator thought he heard it wrong: “Boredom?”

“Isn’t it interesting to see ordinary people screaming and crawling all over the ground like ants?”

Zhang Zhao changed to a more comfortable sitting position, looked straight at the interrogator’s livid face, and said with a smile: “It is said that the purpose of the establishment of the supervision department is to manage us evolutionists, but in fact, most of the people in the Shenhai City Supervision Department are incompetent ordinary humans. There are only a few with the lowest levels such as D and C—what can you do with me, a precious B-level, huh?”

“……”

“Execute me?” The corners of Zhang Zhao’s eyebrows were raised higher, and his tone was filled with exaggerated mockery.

There was silence in the interrogation room.

It took a long time before the interrogator slammed the file shut and said coldly, “What do you want, Zhang Zhao?”

With a triumphant expression on his face, Zhang Zhao leaned back on the back of the chair.

“Don’t you just want to know the whereabouts of my three accomplices?” He lazily said, “Come on, let’s make a deal.”

Many vigilant eyes from inside and outside the monitoring system fell on this arrogant robber at the same time.

“On the day of the bank explosion, I saw a young man dressed in black sitting in a car and talking on the phone. When I was arrested, he didn’t even look out of the car window—I knew he was your superior and the great supervisor who ruled over all evolutionists in Shenhai City.” Zhang Zhao looked up at the surveillance camera on a high place, and said, “My condition is for him to come and see me in person.”

The air seemed to be still for a moment.

The interrogator’s face changed slightly: “Why?”

The arrogant smile on Zhang Zhao’s face deepened: “Because I want to see him come beg me…”

“I want to see a begging expression on his indifferent face.”

Meanwhile, downstairs.

A black car stopped silently in front of the steps. Four armed evolutionists saluted at the same time, stepped forward, and opened the car door: “Supervisor, you are back.”

A thin figure wrapped in a black suit stepped out of the car door.

He looked very young, and his face was smooth and pale. The bright sunlight was reflected on the glass windows of the gray building of the supervision department, highlighting his clear and firm jawline.

“Supervisor Shen.” “Supervisor!”

………

From the lobby on the first floor to the elevator door, it was as if a pause button had been pressed. All the staff members along the way quickly stood up, greeted him, turned sideways to avoid him, and cautiously bow their heads, looking down at the young man’s bright leather shoes walking across the ground in front of him, followed by the sound of the elevator.

Shen Zhuo, the supreme chief of the Shenhai City Supervision Department, stood still. He folded his hands in black leather gloves in front of him and disappeared behind the closed elevator door without any emotion on his face.

“Is he crazy?” In front of the monitoring screen outside the interrogation room, everyone looked at Zhang Zhao on the electric chair, and the atmosphere was in an uproar: “What did he just say?” “What is he trying to do?” “Don’t drag us if you want to die!”

………

“No, the report said that the four escaped evolutionists may take drastic actions and pose a great social threat, and their whereabouts must be dug out of Zhang Zhao’s mouth as soon as possible.” A staff member frowned, got up, and said: “I’ll go to my superiors for instructions. If the situation is urgent, Supervisor Shen may be required to come forward to find a solution—”

As soon as he opened the office door, his voice stopped abruptly.

Four evolutionists were standing outside the door, all dressed in white uniforms and equipped with weapons.

All the evolutionists in the supervision department had metal collars around their necks, with different numbers engraved on them. Out of the four people in front of them, two had their number started with B while the other two people’s started with C—which represented their respective level of evolution.

Surrounded by these four guards was that thin, tall, and very familiar figure; in a black suit and white shirt, with gloves on all year round, and eyes as deep as cold pools.

Shen Zhuo.

Everyone in the office got up abruptly, and the staff member at the door subconsciously took half a step back: “Super…supervisor!”

Shen Zhuo’s eyes passed through the crowd and landed on the monitoring screen.

“—Unless your superior surnamed Shen begs in person, I won’t say a word.” Zhang Zhao sat comfortably in the electric chair, smiling at the interrogator who had an ugly expression on his face: “Now, you can go out. You are not qualified to talk to me.”

There was a dead silence in front of the monitoring screen, and everyone held their breath.

In that suffocating atmosphere, Shen Zhuo looked back at the interrogation room on the other side of the corridor, and said two words calmly: “Open the door.”

No one dared to look up at his face. A guard quickly stepped forward and swiped the access card with a “beep”.

The explosion-proof steel door, weighing half a ton, suddenly opened. Zhang Zhao on the electric chair looked up, only to see the interrogator stand up in response: “Supervisor! You—”

Shen Zhuo walked into the interrogation room. He put one hand in his trousers pocket and pressed the other hand on the iron table in front of Zhang Zhao. Tapping the table with his two slender fingers, he said without a word of nonsense:

“Where are your three accomplices?”

Zhang Zhao had to raise his head to meet the downcast gaze of the great supervisor of Shenhai city.

Shen Zhao’s face was shocking at first glance because it was too beautiful. His face was cold and white, with dark eyebrows and eyes, sharp and clear facial features, and almost no smile lines.

This near-perfect bone structure had a visual impact, especially his high authority and status, which pushed this sense of sharpness to the extreme and even had a kind of thrilling feeling.

“……” Zhang Zhao laughed slowly and said with interest in a drawn-out tone, “Shen——Zhuo.”

No one answered him.

“I’ve heard people say that Supervisor Shen is famous for two things: first, he is one of the top ten supervisors in the world and rules over 20,000 evolutionists in Shenhai City by thunderous means, but he himself is just an ordinary person, who couldn’t evolve.”

“Second,” Zhang Zhao paused maliciously and said, “He has a very attractive face.”

“……”

Even the sound of the needles falling could be heard in the interrogation room. Zhang Zhao lifted his upper body from the electric chair and stared straight into Shen Zhuo’s eyes: “Beauty, let’s have a discussion. How about you let me have some fun, and I’ll tell you the whereabouts of those three evolutionists?”

Shen Zhuo stared at him without saying a word.

The clock on the wall made a slight ticking sound. Zhang Zhao pointed upward with his handcuffed hand and smiled: “Your time is running out. Three dangerous supernatural beings are on the run, guess what they will do?”

If everyone didn’t dare to breathe before, now it seemed that an invisible hand squeezed the air out of everyone’s lungs.

It was as if a long century had passed, but it also seemed like as if it was just a moment before Shen Zhuo finally spoke, saying:

“Remove his handcuffs.”

The interrogator, whose knees were trembling under his uniform trousers, stepped forward with strong composure and used the key to unlock the handcuffs on the left and right sides of the electric chair.

Everyone was looking at the scene but no one dared to speak. Zhang Zhao sat up in satisfaction and moved his left and right hands: “This feels better.” Then he stretched out his hand to the collar of Shen Zhuo’s meticulous white shirt, and said with a smile: “Supervisor Shen, you …”

Crack!

Zhang Zhao felt that his hand was clamped by an iron hoop, but in fact, it was just Shen Zhuo’s slender five fingers wearing black gloves.

In the next second, an unimaginable force struck his head, and before he even had time to believe his eyes, Shen Zhuo lifted him up from the electric chair and slammed his head against the wall with a bang. The outer covering of the wall instantly cracked!

Without any power to fight back at all, Zhang Zhao, a young and strong evolutionist was held by Shen Zhuo by the collar with one hand, and mercilessly slammed against the wall—the force was simply enough to smash his skull. Every move was fastener and more ruthless than the previous one. Soon fragments of bricks and stones were scattered all over the ground.

Bang!

The wall of the interrogation room was smashed off, revealing the anti-riot steel plates.

Zhang Zhao, whose face was covered in blood, was forced to hit the steel plate head-on, and the blood splashed all over the wall!

“F*ck——” Zhang Zhao couldn’t believe how an ordinary human could have such overwhelming power. On the verge of death, he went crazy, and a fireball suddenly appeared in his palm.

Evolutionists above level B possessed the ability to manipulate water and fire. The interrogator lost his voice: “Supervisor, be careful!”

In that instant, Shen Zhuo kicked Zhang Zhao to the ground, pulled out a special collar from somewhere, and stuck it on Zhang Zhao’s neck with lightning speed. The metal was automatically locked with a snap, and the number displayed on it was — B002465.

Immediately afterward, he took out the controller from his suit pants pocket and pressed it down.

“Ahhhhhhhh——”

The screams resounded through the interrogation room, and the 200,000 volts of high-voltage electricity made Zhang Zhao’s whole body crackle. It took more than ten seconds for Zhang Zhao to completely fall to the ground, violently twitching and emitting scorched smoke.

The four evolutionist guards wearing the same collars stood outside the door, casting indifferent gazes at him.

Shen Zhuo lifted his pants legs, squatted down, and shook the small silver controller in front of Zhang Zhao’s distracted eyes:

“Special for evolutionists. It can release millions of volts of high-voltage electricity in an instant and kill people below level A with one hit.”

Zhang Zhao panted violently; his arrogant expression had completely disappeared, and instinctive fear was reflected in his pupils.

“You robbed a bank and committed arson, causing serious social harm. You will serve a life sentence at the Shenhai City Supervision Department. From now on, you only have two choices: obey me like a dog or be wiped out like an ant.”

“Now,” Shen Zhuo lifted up Zhang Zhao by his blood-soaked hair, forcing him to look up at him. He asked calmly for the last time, “Where are your three accomplices?”
