74 – Awakening

After coming to my senses, I grasped the blurry figure in front of me.

Then, the figure spoke to me.

“Oh, oh?! Are you awake?! Did you wake up?”

When I heard the voice, it was Professor Cordelia. I spoke with a hoarse voice.

“…Why am I here?”

In that moment, I remembered what had happened. Ah, right. That person, Teacher Yangho.

“The basement is dangerous…!”

As I suddenly sat up, Professor Cordelia spoke towards me.

“Don’t move too vigorously for now. I heard you’re okay, but just to be safe. Any areas that hurt?”

I moved my body here and there and said.

“…For now, there’s no uncomfortable places.”

Upon hearing that, Professor Cordelia let out a sigh of relief.

“Phew, that’s a relief. I pretended I was staying out for work just to take care of you.”

I lowered my head in gratitude.

“Thank you. But, where am I?”

“…I don’t sense sincerity in your words. Well, wherever it is, it’s the Academy infirmary. It’s a single room to avoid catching the students’ attention.”

I furrowed my brow upon hearing that and said.

“Teacher Yangho was definitely…”

“I know. You handled it. While you were unconscious, the person the sect sent to treat you ended up taking over as Teacher Yangho.”

What is this? In other words, that person came to treat me and ended up becoming Teacher Yangho.

Professor Cordelia continued speaking.

“They’re already a busy person, but somehow, it turned out like that. Well, thanks to that, you’re still alive. Black magic had seeped into your body, and your condition kept deteriorating.”

In other words, it was the kind of injury that couldn’t be healed unless it was by someone of a certain level of clergy. Upon hearing that, I let out a sigh.

“It was almost a disaster.”

“That’s right. I heard the treatment was already completed, but you still didn’t feel at ease, so you were still like this. Since you’re becoming the next Holy Maiden, they had to heal you. Even an ordinary clergy wouldn’t have thought of daring to interfere. That woman also bled a lot while treating you…”

“…The next Holy Maiden?”

“Yeah, she’s the Saint’s granddaughter. She was dispatched by the sect and somehow ended up taking over Teacher Yangho. Well, at least there’s no chance of dying from injuries in the Academy.”

Upon hearing that, I had a dumbfounded expression and asked.

“…Oh, so you mean the next Holy Maiden came here to treat me and ended up becoming Teacher Yangho?”

“Yeah, that’s right. Isn’t she still in the infirmary? You could say hello while you’re at it.”

I nodded my head at those words and looked at Professor Cordelia, asking.

“…Um, by the way, what day is it now?”

Professor Cordelia tilted her head for a moment before responding to my words.

“Um… it was probably April 23rd.”

Damn it. I haven’t made the artifact yet, and there’s only one week left?

I stood there dumbfounded upon hearing those words. Looking at me like that, Professor Cordelia made a sound of amusement and spoke.

“Why are you making that expression?”

“I haven’t made the artifact. I was supposed to finish it by this month.”

“Are you an idiot?”

“Yes, I am. I was sick, so I was lying down.”

In response to my retort, Professor Cordelia made a bewildered expression and said to me.

“I don’t know. Figure it out yourself. What kind of student doesn’t do their vacation homework? It’s been a while since you graduated from the academy.”

Damn it. I don’t have anything to say.

I sighed, and in the meantime, Professor Cordelia chuckled and said.

“Well, you look better. Should I take my leave now? I have a lot to do, reporting that you woke up and all.”

I nodded my head in response to her words.

“Oh, a farewell…?”

“What kind of idiot who was lying in bed for days needs a farewell, a farewell. Forget it. I’ll go alone and rest, recover my stamina.”

I lay back down on the bed in response to her words.

And, after Professor Cordelia left, someone entered the room after some time.

A woman with a ponytail of pink hair and a white gown. I immediately realized that she was the ‘future saint’ that Professor Cordelia had mentioned.

I quickly sat up and spoke.

“You’re the one who treated me, right? Thank you.”

In response, the woman seemed slightly surprised and hesitated for a moment before replying.

“Oh, yes. It’s nothing special. Just doing my duty as a priestess.”

I smiled and spoke.

“If it wasn’t for you, things could have been really bad. I couldn’t let that happen. But, I heard that you’re the future saint, so, by any chance, is your name…?”

“It’s Luna. Luna Aibenheim. Just call me by my name. Or call me whatever is more comfortable for you.”

“Oh, I see. Then, can I call you Luna…? Haha. I heard that you got into trouble because of me, but how can I repay you for that…”

Upon hearing those words, Luna, the woman with that name, had a subtle expression, as if she was pondering something, and spoke.

“…It’s something that the church asked me to do, so you don’t have to worry about it too much. Instead of that, is your body feeling better now?”

“Oh, yes. I was unconscious for a few days and then woke up, right? My body doesn’t have much strength, but there aren’t any painful or uncomfortable areas.”

“Then that’s a relief. Since the dark magic that was embedded in your body has completely disappeared, you can rest assured. But just in case, if there is any discomfort, please let me know.”

“Yes. Thank you. I heard that you even shed blood during the treatment, Luna. Are you okay?”

Upon hearing that, she made a pensive expression and spoke.

“…Well, there’s no need to worry about that. It always happens when I excessively use my divine power because of the artifact. It happens often, so it becomes bothersome if I pay attention to each and every time.”

“But still, I can’t help but be concerned when you shed blood while treating me. Isn’t it not good to get used to shedding blood while helping others?”

After hearing those words, she frowned and looked at me silently.

Oops, did I meddle too much? I apologized sincerely.

“Ah, I’m sorry. I was just worried because you shed blood… I didn’t mean to meddle. Really.”

Well, she can take care of her own body. I must have meddled for no reason. I explained that I didn’t have any intention to meddle.

Then, the next Saint let out a sigh and responded.

“Yes. I understand, so there’s nothing to worry about. Just rest comfortably and recover your energy for a day. You can discharge tomorrow.”

Upon hearing that, I cautiously brought up a request.

“…Um, I’m sorry, but could you give me my bag?”

By mentioning my bag, I meant the bag that had space magic cast upon it, which could carry a tremendous amount of luggage and make it lighter. My bag was practically full.

Upon hearing my words, the next Saint looked puzzled and asked.

“My bag? Why?”

“…I had something to do, but I couldn’t do it because I fainted and woke up. It’s just a task of memorizing magic on objects. Is it possible?”

After hearing that, she let out a sigh and spoke.

“If it’s memorizing, then it’s something that uses mana, right? It takes a really long time to do that. Since you already seem tired, it might be difficult to ask you to do that.”

I looked at the next Saint. Continuously, intently. Then she made a sound of exasperation and spoke.

“…Alright, I’ll bring it to you. Take it easy and take breaks when needed.”

I watched her walk away to get my bag. I thought to myself, thanks to her, I’m alive, but I wonder if I’m being shameless.

But what else can I do? If I don’t diligently memorize from now on, I won’t be able to meet the deadline for our promise.

A while later, the next Saint came back with my bag and handed it to me. I nodded my head and said.

“Thank you.”

After that, she made a mysterious expression and spoke to me.

“Take it easy, take it easy. Otherwise, you might not be discharged tomorrow either.”

“Yes.”

With those words as the last, she left with her pink hair swaying, and I took out the artifacts for making and the tools from my bag.

When Luna first met Eden and regained consciousness, her initial thought was that he appeared much kinder than she had expected. The way he stood up immediately upon seeing her, offering his gratitude, set him apart from the image she had held of him as a bad guy who mistreated others. Of course, his face still lived up to that perception, but seeing him smile was more…

…Anyway, Luna, feigning calmness, responded to Eden’s unexpected behavior. As they continued their conversation, Eden said to her, “Yes. Thank you. I heard you shed blood while treating me. Are you okay, Luna?”

Gratitude was something she had heard quite often, but it was the first time someone expressed concern for her. Though she assured him that it was nothing, Eden replied, “Still, you shed blood while treating me, so I can’t help but worry. It’s good to help others, but shouldn’t you avoid getting used to shedding blood?”

…A concern she had never heard before. People looked at the next Saint with awe and admiration, but no one had ever expressed concern for her.

After feigning calmness and conversing with him, Luna, upon finishing her work, thought quietly to herself. It’s definitely true that women are attracted to bad guys, she thought.
