I Died, But Came Back ... As A Wolf

Chapter 38 - Ming'er

Making her way to room 001 Sarah was confident that Huo has sorted out the room. Once there she knocked on the door to make sure that the problem was taking care of in case there was the rare case of a Rank 1 staying there.

A couple seconds later Huo opened the door for her and Sarah then entered to see a young girl eating cookies with a board game out which looked like a mixture of the frustration game layout without the bumper with dice and then it took inspiration from shogi for its characters. For example every colour had an assassin, soldier, general and then a king. Noticing the similarities to the game Sarah tried making small talk with the girl and talk with Huo at the same time finding out the situation.

When Ming'er saw Sarah she was slightly dazed at first and then shouted out that big sister is so pretty while Sarah just smiled beneath her veil. Rabting on and on the Min'er then asked for Sarah to take off her veil which Sarah complied with since it was only females around and it had been sometime since she could actually take it off. Amazed by the her pretty looks Ming'er once again exclaimed that big sister was so pretty.

Huo was also surprised as she had never seen Sarah with her veil off, Huo was then stuck in a daze until Ming'er took her hand and then asked them to play 'Strategists Frustration', the game was called this because it was made by famous strategists of the country who were frustrated that the game was based purely on luck which meant that they couldn't come up with perfect ways to win the game as there were too many variations which meant that every turn could make you win the game in the future whereas in other games you need to be very careful in how you move in order to win.

While Ming'er set up the game Sarah asked Huo what happened and why was there a little girl here. Huo answered Sarah that the little girl was already there and that the girls name was Ming'er. Surprised by the fact that the little girl could be here as that meant she was very strong, at least to those who hadn't ranked up yet.

After setting up the game she designated their colours, Ming'er was red, Huo was green while Sarah was blue. Ming'er said that she chose the colours because of Huo having green scales whilst she chose blue for Sarah because of her dress. Red was because it was her favourite colour. Geing forward with the game while Sarah made small talk with the girl.

First she learned about the game from Ming'er and then she asked about Ming'er. Ming'er patiently explained the rules as they played which Sarah got used to quickly. The same character couldn't take each other out instead they would stand on the same space, a lower ranked character couldn't take out a character two tiers above it. The heirarchy went as such:

Lowest Ranked Character - Assassin

Next Ranked Character - Soldier

Next Ranked Character - General

Highest Ranked Character - King

An assassin cannot take out another assassin; assassins can only take out soldiers and the king. Soldiers can take out assassins, kings and generals; generals can take out assassins, soldiers and kings; kings can not take out another king whereas they can take out all other characters. However once a king has been 'killed' that team loses. The completion of the game is similar to frustration which is that the King must make it back to the castle with all other characters. All other characters can be brought back by rolling a six on the die used, which is another similarity to frustration is that die are used to move the pieces.

Whilst playing the game Sarah gleamed some important information from Ming'er. Ming'er was in fact the youngest daughter of a Zhao family elder. The Zhao family is a middle-class family which is only a hundred years from becoming a noble clan. Although their status is not of a noble clan they however can compare with a noble clans wealth as the Zhao family is a family of blacksmiths that make weaponry. What confused Sarah was the fact that Ming'er didn't bring in a servant with her, to which Ming'er said that she didn't want a servant as they didn't feel right to her. They were all boring and no fun.

An hour of playing and they were finally done as Ming'er was trying to be kind to her new friends by not killing their king's straight away but she was killing their other characters prolonging the game massively, eventually she got bored and stopped being nice and won the game by getting her king and other characters in whilst killing Huo's king on the way round the board. After the game had finished she folded it up and put it in the box for it (Think Monopoly board).

Thinking it over Sarah thought of another solution besides kicking Ming'er out and her leaving.

"How about instead of you leaving the room, us two big sisters stay in the room with you?" Inquired Sarah hoping her luck was good today.

"Yaay, that's a great idea big sis... but wait where will you sleep? Ming'er only has on bed" Excited by the prospect of having more fun Ming'er was ecstatic but then she realised that she didn't have another bed for her to sleep on.

"How about this. Why don't you share your bed with big sister here while this big sister goes and gets more beds?" Sarah offered a solution as she couldn't have anticipated that Ming'er was here which made it difficult to just be mean and kick her out.

"Sure!" Ming'er excitedly agreed and then dragged Sarah to play more games while Huo left to go buy two beds for Sarah and herself. Although for the other rooms squeezing in a third bed would be difficult as there would be no more moving room however each room past rank ten had a qualitive leap every rank up. Room 001 was so massive that it could compare to the previous nine combined. For the rooms, the very last room was 6mx6mx8m. For every rank up before rank ten they added 10cm to each dimension. Whereas room 010 and above added another meter.
