I Reign Supreme

Chapter 10 - Fighting As Ascenders

Fighting as Ascenders;

Vester slept on the seat early, hoping to wake up on time so he could be among the first batch of the squires that would pay the registration fee and validate their A.I.D. the next day. But after he woke up the next morning, he was surprised at what he met inside the hall of the building.

A lot of squires where inside already!

A lot of them where done with the payment while some were currently getting registered. Those who had payed were given a location in handbills for their next destination.

Vester found this hard to believe. How could he have slept and didn't pick up any sound from here to wake up.

'How'd this happen.' Vester thought with an open jaw.

Looking at the queue he would have to stand in, it would take at least thirty minutes to pay-in. Not only one queue but several others had this issue. He couldn't waste anymore time. He hurriedly comported himself and hurtled uncontrollably towards the line. When the rest of the squires saw this, they gave him a disapproving look.

Wasn't he the one squire out of hundreds that would sleep away something so important as this.

After the waiting in the line, it was his turn to pay.

'Hello squire, may I have your A.I.D.' a ravishing lady with a beautiful voice behind the counter said to him.

'Oh… right.' Vester took out his disk from his shoulder bag and placed it on the counter.

The lady brought down the disk and kept it on a sphere that had an opening were it emitted light. This light shone on the disk on top of it before it began to twinkle multiple colours then it finally seizing. The lady took the disk out and did other things before giving it back to Vester and said to him.

'Here you go. Your disk's expiring date is five years from now, so please endeavour to renew its time limit before it runs out.'

'Understood.' Vester took his disk and stored it back in his bag.

'One more thing. This is your spot card with your society information on it. Your counsel and tutoring regarding your early stage as an Ascender would be fully explained by the officials.' she explained and handed a card to him. 'The training starts in an hour at the training ground.'

'Thank you.' Vester gave his thanks and left the building. He obviously didn't know the way to the training ground so he thought by following one of the squires, (s)he would end up showing him the way.

When they arrived at the training ground, they were once again astonished to see how wide it was.

This training ground was almost three/four times of a football stadium. At the centre of the field was a colossal effigy of a man two time the statue of liberty. The man was bald and looking at his visage it was clear he was a black-skin man. He held his hand up high showing the entire world of the paper scroll he held in it and behind him another scroll was hung horizontally.

This man was Grand Master Ka'al Tumal!

The founder and the first Kingdom Lord of Xylem!

Originally, the title 'Grand Master' was given to an Ascender who has proven itself to be the number one in whole of the kingdom or nation. Grand Master were similar to Kingdom Lord's the only difference was Grand Masters were usually Ascenders that made use of scrolls while Kingdom Lords made use of mantras.

Further more, Ascension was categorised into two path. One was ascending as a scroll master and being a scroll master ment the Ascender in question cannot manifest its own mantra and thus had to make use of paper scrolls to project its mantras. While the other path was ascending as a Mantrant - an Ascender that doesn't need a scroll to manifest its mantras as (s)he could just directly project it themselves.

After the reign of Ka'al Tumal as a Grand Master, the next person who took over as the last line of defense in the kingdom was a Mantrant not a ScrollMaster and thus was given the title 'Kingdom Lord' which was the title that still laid present in the kingdom, hitherto.

As Vester entered the field it took a while to reach the centre and when he did, he saw the rest of the squires assembled before a woman with four paper scrolls mantled at her back. She wore a black leather armour and inscribed on it were the words 'Kingdom Escort'.

The lady stood there motionless with moulded fist as she gazed at the squires as if waiting for all to assemble and when they did, not a single person made a sound.

'Welcome to the world of Ascension! You may refer to me as Commander White Bird, I'd be your general adviser. Here all your faiths are put to the test as you have forever left the confines of humanity and ascended into the immortal realm! Here you have to put all worldly distractions behind you to move further and achieve your goals! We the Ascension Society are one of the bedrocks to all god-like Ascenders since the inception of Xylem and would forever be! But to make you that, we want an Ascender with a relentless pursuit to become the best! We want an Ascender who would look at the Eternal Man in times of death and tell him I AM INEVITABLE! We are here to turn your dreams into reality! But that solely depends on you.'

'Whomever you choose to be, what ever you crave to become lies within your grasp! A god! A man! Or a dog! For I, I chose to be a god not a goddess and I am only a step from reaching it! You are the key to your success, you are the lords to your word and you are the future of our tomorrow.'

'Remember something my brethren… You don't have to be a god to go to heaven… you don't have to come from heaven to be a god…!'

As the lady spoke, her words were like a speeding bullet piercing into the hearts of a men. Some squires had already started sweating via their eyes, some had runny nose, some had never ending phlegm gushing through their nose. But as for the ones like Vester, they were internally combusting of emotions. Feeling like one day they would crush the world beneath their feet!

'…Your journey begins now but know this, to every successful mam there is something special… and that thing is your friends. Everyone cannot be your friend but know those who are because when the world turns against you, they would always be with you. When your weak, they would strengthen you. Choose your friends well for they are a major contributor to both your rise and demise! So, I would leave you all briefly now to get along.'

While she spoke, two Ascenders dropped down from above the statue silently. The attire of these Ascenders were no different from the lady as them too had holsters for paper scrolls planted all over their body like armors. They descended by her right and left, female and male respectively. After their entrance, they drew the lady close to discuss with her.

For some moments the squires were buried with their separate emotions inside them. Having dissimilar thoughts but this didn't stop them from interacting.

'You?!' an angry voice exploded behind Vester. When he turned around to see the owner of the voice he c.o.c.ked his brows in surprise.

It's still this same tubby kid from earlier.

'You really have guts don't you young man!' the boy spoke angrily as he went ahead to pull up his armour sleeves, stomping at Vester.

Wait, young man? Me? I'm definitely older than you with few months.

'Oh! Hello there.' Vester blissfully smiled and greeted.

'Don't hello me! What's your spot number?!' he exclaimed.

'Erm… 7-9.'

'7-9? But, that was supposed to be my spot in the society.' Bobby murmured dejectedly.

Vester felt bad in his heart for his fellow squire, 'I'm sorry… I didn't know it was meant for you. But you a have spot. I mean that's a good thing… right?'

'You don't worry, I'll get stronger.' Bobby spoke drawly.

Vester patted him and said, 'We all will. I'm Sylvester by the way.'

The boy sighed, 'My friends well the ones I thought they are, call me Bobby.'

As the two conversed, they could here faint raging bellows from around the herd of squires. When they went further to know what was happening they noticed how one side of the group huddled around two people in the middle.

'It's better we settle things now so they don't get ugly later.' a squire with thick blue hair and indigo eyes wearing a black padded armour majestically spoke and folded his arms. He had side holsters for paper scrolls beside his legs and even held one in his folded left arm.

'Hmph!' harrumphed the squire who was in the circle with him. 'If it hadn't been Mordecai and that idiotic fat-witted jackass he was with back then, there wouldn't be anything to settle.' This boy didn't put on a padded armour but instead he wore a loose white garment with blue pattern design and when he raised his hand at the other squire it was resplendent in light blue ring.

'Fat-witted jackass?' Vester murmured as he scratched his back and looked down at Bobby.

'Argh… I'll show you jackass!' Bobby shouted and charged at the second boy. Just a step he took away from Vester and he landed inches next to the boy, delivering a swift right jab to his face.

Bam!

The boy took two steps back only to regain stability. He glared at Bobby who looked like he was going to explode and gave him a wild grin.

'Mordecai isn't here to save you. So I'm gonna enjoy this.' he muttered with a grin.

It was after he said those words did Bobby understood the consequence of what he did. When Vester looked at Bobby, he couldn't see the angry tyrant from before only a timid little kid.

'This is not… good.'
