"Today marks the end of your first year of coming here. To commemorate this event, you will be sent to the wilderness for an assessment. Got that!?"

"Yes, sir!"

"There are a total of 10 courses, crossing through the wilderness. And there will be a total of 20 teams! Each team will be required to pair up with another, and together, they will on a parallel path, only to meet at the designated location. You are to make a round trip and record the progress of your journey. Once you reach the designated location, trade your notes of the surrounding with the other team, and you will go back, using the route that the other team took. Is that clear!?"

"YES, SIR!"

(Jean's POV)

Urghh... Why do I have to go on this trip with these guys?

Behind me, were 2 of the people who I detested the most.

First, Eren. He is the type guy that will do anything he set his eyes on. Though that is a good trait, he can be a bit stubborn and annoying sometimes. He often pisses me off with his 'I wanna join the Survey Corps' speech. It's so goddamn annoying that he will never shut up about it. Spare me those shits. I'd rather live off my life well off in the interior rather becoming cannon fodders for some beings humanity can't even defeat.

I mean... What's wrong with the interior? Is it wrong to live a peaceful life? Unlike those hypocrites who said they want to serve the king, I'm a much honest guy. And above all, I will never be like one of those idealistic sons of a b*tch, who want to risk their lives serving for a hopeless cause. At least I'm honest about my dream.

As for the second person I hated... Athanatos.

He's the most mysterious guy in the whole goddamn Cadet. Rumors about him can even be heard hundreds of miles away. Some even say he eat human meat for dinner!

But one thing is for sure... you never want to mess with him.

I learned that the hard way.

"H-hey there. May I have the p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to know your name?"

One week after we joined the cadet, I summoned up my courage to talk to this one girl.

I already knew her name was Mikasa, but out of courtesy, I politely asked for her name.

"Mikasa."

"I see... that's a pretty name."

She didn't even ask for mine... (´;︵;`)

"So... Mikasa. How're you enjoying the Cadet Corps so far. Do you have any story to share?"

"...Yeah."

She said that with an uninterested expression... but you can see a slight happy expression on her face.

"Wanna tell me about it?"

She is truly a wonderful girl. Her beauty captivates me the very moment I laid my eyes on her. How can such an angel-like being like her can even exist?

"I confessed to someone... And he agreed." After she said that, her face bloomed with a sweet smile.

But before I can ask her who it was...

"Oh. He's coming here."

Then I turned to look at the person walking to her table.

I knew this guy. He has been the talk of the whole 104th Cadet Corps, mostly famous for having more than one girlfriends—2 confirmed and 1 unconfirmed.

Is this Mikasa's boyfriend?

How? How can such a beautiful girl like her, possibly like this guy?

He's a goddamn playboy!

Though his look is quite decent—really handsome, actually—he already has 2 other girls!!!

Are you fine with this Mikasa? Are you being threatened?

"Hey, you bastard!"

"Wut?" He replied to me with a hint of intrigue on his face.

"Tell me... How can a goddamn playboy like you be Mikasa's boyfriend!!? You already have 3!!!"

I was pissed. I just wanted to lunge myself at this guy and beat him up.

He doesn't even look that strong and his height is even almost a head shorter than me.

What does he have that I don't???

"3? Mikasa and Annie. That's 2."

Son of a b*tch. You don't even deny that you have more than one!

"HUH?! What did you say you bastard? That still doesn't change the fact that you're unfaithful!"

"It's mutual."

I was really angered by this guy's calm attitude.

Unable to hold my rage back, I unleashed it on this guy.

But I still had some rationality within me, so I only try to grab him by the collar.

That was my biggest mistake.

*bam*

Before I could even touch him. He took my hand that was reaching out to him, and place his other hand on my neck. Then using my momentum to his advantage. I was hurled to the ground with great speed.

Within less than a second. I was defeated without knowing how.

But that still wasn't the worst.

The moment I looked into his eyes, I almost piss myself.

Absolute terror.

An ant. That was all I will ever amount to. If a look could kill, I would have already been dead millions of times.

I was just a mere little prey

But you can't simply just call him a simple predator. He was more than that. It was as if he was the very incarnation of death itself.

A monstrosity. A being that shouldn't exist.

But that look only lasted for a second before he started speaking again.

"You made 3 mistakes:

First, you tried to fight me

Second, your reason to even start a fight was stupid.

And lastly, you tried to hit on Mikasa. That's your biggest sin."

I could even barely hear him. I was still traumatic by that one second earlier.

I just felt small... It was as if I was just a grain of sand in front of a massive mountain.

"Understood?"

I couldn't answer. My throat was really dry and I wanted to say something but I couldn't make any coherent word.

I just silently nodded.

And for three years, I will have to be with this guy.

Mommy... I wanna go home :(

And that's how I met him.

If you don't piss him off, he's actually quite a friendly guy.

But if you do piss him off though, it won't be fun.

There are too many victims after all... I'm still surprised he hadn't got kick out yet. There's definitely something fishy than just meets the eyes.

Damn it. How unlucky and hapless am I to be placed into this group.

I wonder if I will be able to survive this trip. I can already feel something terrible is going to happen.
