I Was Forced To Marry The Enemy

I saw Dante stiffen at her words. His composure made me worry more than I did before. I could already tell that I wasn't going to like what I was about to hear.

A part of me, the part that had feelings for Dante. Wanted to run, wanted to be as far away as possible from this girl. For that part of me knew that I was about to hate him and it didn't want to hate Dante Clarke, no, for the feelings were already very strong.

"Emily—."

"No let me continue Dante. She has to know sooner or later."

I scrunched my eyebrows together as I waited for her to explain. I dug my shoes into the ground and held on for balance, I could tell that I would need it.

"Dante set the whole thing up just to force you to marry him. You really think it was normal that after all of these years he suddenly showed interest in you? No sweetie, he was never really interested. His father ordered him to woo you and that was all he did. He set up the reporters and everything. All of that just to get your parents off their backs."

I blinked.

Then I blinked again.

This was a lot worse than what I was initially expecting.

This couldn't be true. After everything I've felt for him, after every memory and extreme bliss. How could any of this be true? He'd touched me as though he were starving for me, he was gentle at times I needed him to be gentle. He had even protected me from my own father.

Then how could any of this be true?

But I also couldn't deny the facts, Dante had acted cold ever since my parents had agreed to the engagement. With this new information his actions suddenly seemed a lot clearer to me. He was cold because he'd finally gotten what he wanted. All of it was just an act to lure me into their world, to trap me and force me to marry him.

It all was coming together, the missing piece that I was so desperately trying to figure out.

Yet, I couldn't believe it until I heard it from his own mouth.

My eyes snapped to his, I could feel myself begin to tremble with both fear and rage as I asked the next question. "Is this true?"
