I guess we had to take the back roads, not the streets, so as not to stand out. The area seemed even darker.

I looked up at the sky and saw some bright lights in the distance. They looked like stars, but I knew they were not stars.

I was so attracted to it that I almost uttered the word “beautiful” without thinking. I stared at its mysterious appearance.

Was that the royal palace?

“Let’s hurry!”

Duke-sama looked a little tense as he galloped his horse even faster.

I had no idea what was going on, so I just let the horse take me to the palace.

I was intimidated by the horse as it sped faster and faster. I didn’t know any other horse that could run this long and this fast.

I realized once again that Kushana had given us a rare horse of the highest class. They were running toward the royal palace at an unbelievable speed. The white light floating in the air was getting bigger.

A warm light that could be seen from a distance.

…Oh, this must be the light mourning the death of Uncle Will.

Finally, I understood what this beautiful light was when I saw it up close. That must be why Duke-sama was in such a hurry.

I bit my lower lip, trying not to cry.

It had been a long time since we had seen each other…

The Uncle Will I had met in the flower garden that Kushana claimed to be a training area was only an illusion.

The gates of the royal palace came into view. The gate of the Duelkis’ kingdom could not be breached. Little by little, the speed of the horse slowed down.

Duke-sama turned to the guard standing beside the gate and said briefly, “It’s me”.

The guard, who recognized Duke-sama in an instant, hurriedly said, “Welcome back,” and let us through. I didn’t think they saw my face.

The guards must have been surprised. The guards must have been surprised to see Duke-sama suddenly come back on a very fast horse with a girl riding along.

If it were me, I would have doubted if it was really Duke-sama.

Duke-sama kept the horse going even after entering the gate. He rode towards the palace courtyard, breaking wind as he went, and then towards the back of the palace.

I had never been in a place like this.

I guessed that it must be a place where only royalty was allowed to enter. There was a hill, and on top of it stood a large, magnificent tree.

That tree was said to be the only one of its kind in the world. I had read about it in a book long ago, and it was rarer than Maddie.

I had no idea it was in the royal palace in Duelkis Kingdom…

“That’s where my mother rests.”

Duke-sama said quietly.
