29. Because you’ll be locked up forever (1)

A sweet scent permeated the mansion where she arrived, exhausted.

Upon hearing Rosaline and Erica’s hushed conversation from the side of the kitchen, Kelly slowed down and walked on tiptoes.

She didn’t want to catch their eyes and create a troublesome situation for herself.

Unfortunately, her efforts were in vain.

The kitchen’s sliding door opened, and Erica’s head popped out.

“Kelly, can you come over here for a second?”

Kelly sighed low and followed her.

Beautifully decorated cake slices were placed next to the ingredients scattered on the wooden table.

Rosaline, wrapping them carefully one by one, glanced at her.

“I don’t know how strange your diary must have been, but I went to Ariad yesterday and showed it to her.”

Kelly suppressed a laugh.

Would it kill them if they didn’t bother her for a day?

Still, the reason behind it was unpleasant despite the familiarity.

“Did you know what Ariad said? She was so relaxed, as if she couldn’t even deal with things like you.”

Kelly clenched her fists.

“So, what do you want me to do?”

Rosaline snorted.

“I’m not telling you what to do. I’m just telling it like it is.” Her tone seemed slightly nervous. “However, what Ariad said last night was impressive. This is exactly what she said. ‘I’m fine. It’s just a one-sided love. She really can’t do anything about it.”

Humming, she put all the cakes in the box and raised her head to face Kelly.

Her eyes creased from the heavy makeup.

“I think a crown princess is an amazing person. She seems merciful.”

At this point, Kelly burst out laughing.

Did she just call her to say this?

“Oh, I didn’t call you just to say this,” Rosaline replied as if she had read her mind and put the wrapped cakes in front of Kelly.

“We’re meeting with our friends tomorrow. Why don’t you give this to the royal family as a gift? You’ll enter the palace to help the Empress, anyway.”

Their strange attitudes caused frown lines to mar her forehead.

They must be anxious to show off what they can do to make a good impression on others.

“This is yours, Kelly. Try it. It’s delicious.”

Rosaline gave her a gentle smile which was so unlike her character.

Kelly’s eyes narrowed as she tried to guess her dark intentions.

*KNOCK*

The long-awaited sound rang out by the window.

Hugh carefully inserted a note into the window frame.

When he smiled and waved a hand at her, So-hee waved back happily.

Thinking it was terrible to leave just like that, the man sat for a long time on the thick branch.

At that moment, a strong wind caused Hugsalutegger to go out of balance, and he had to grab the iron bars to avoid falling.

Unfortunately——

“Oh my god!”

A few bars were ripped off, and the man disappeared from her sight.

“Huh? I wonder if he’s alright.”

Surprised, So-hee hurried out of bed, took the message on the window frame, and peeped outside.

The man, who had rolled on the ground with his face crumpling in pain, jumped up as soon as he made eye contact with So-hee.

“Are you alright?”

“Oh. Yes, of course. This is nothing~”

Hugh casually tapped the dirt underneath him.

He was trying his best to smile, but it looked more like slight cramps at the corners of his mouth.

He didn’t look alright.

So-hee raised an eyebrow and studied her with concern.

And he whispered lowly and eventually gave his final greeting.

“You don’t have to come up now. I appreciate your help. See you somewhere else next time.” She whispered a final greeting.

She didn’t know if she could still see him somewhere else.

Yes.

She could watch her ‘celebrity crush look-alike’  from afar.

When she waved a hand at him to soothe her regret, Hugh, who had been looking at Ariad for a long time, eventually turned his back and left.

Left alone, So-hee closed the window and headed back to bed.

She also shook the dust off her bandage, fearing that Joshua would notice it.

Then, Sohee opened the note that Hugh had written for her.

[ Marquis Bandelli was acquitted in court. However, it is said that the letter submitted as evidence contains the contents of Duke Deon plotting treason. I don’t know if it’ll be proven since the letter’s handwriting  seemed different. I also heard he would be investigated again once released on the 17th.]

So-hee read it repeatedly, but she still found it hard to understand.

“Bandelli is innocent. Only Deon is plotting treason.”

Joshua made another piece of evidence at a time when there should have been none because the documents were all burned.

Something felt weird.

“What did he mean he didn’t know if it’ll be proven when the handwriting is different?”

Did Joshua make such sloppy evidence?

That’s impossible.

“What am I going to do with this information?”

She sighed deeply, folding the note.

It was too vague.

She stared at it for a long time, hoping the correct answer would just pop out of her head.

As soon as the door opened, the other party, the center of this case, appeared.

Joshua’s pitch-black hair glistened like pearls in the sunset.

He told her earlier that he would be here as soon as possible.

As expected, this man never went back on his word.

Fascinated by his beauty, So-hee suddenly came to her senses when he began, “What are you holding in your hand?”

Sohee reflexively hid the note behind her back.

“I was just bored so I wrote down a diary or something.”

The man took off his jacket, walked towards her, and sat on the bed.
