I'll Tell You Every Day

Chapter 16: Chapter 16

Daiyu shook her head.

"It's alright. You don't have to hide anything from me. Has your Jin-gege ever been mean to you?" Liu Jin cupped her face with one hand.

Daiyu looked up to him, her eyes growing teary. She shook her head.

"Jin-gege is always kind to Daiyu."

He smiled at her warmly.

"That's right. Your Jin-gege will always take your side. No matter what happens. So don't keep things from me, okay? If you feel like you can't tell me, then you have to tell your grandfather."

"Grandpaw?"

"Mmm." Liu Jin gently stroked her hair.

"Your grandfather loves you very much. He will always watch over you and protect you."

Liu Jin remembered Daiyu talking about how her grandfather had always stood by her side despite Xia Xiulan's schemes.

"And I will too. Your Jin-gege will try his best to make sure that you only have happy days ahead. But to do that, I'll need your help. Whenever something is bothering you, you must tell your grandfather or your Jin-gege at once. Okay? Can you promise me that?"

Daiyu paused and then nodded.

"Good girl." He bent down and gently kissed her forehead.

Daiyu blushed and held her forehead with her tiny hands.

He chuckled.

"Now, come tell your Jin-gege what's been bothering you."

"T-the maids."

"Mmm? What about them?"

"The maids are not nice to Daiyu anymore."

Liu Jin furrowed his brows.

"Not nice anymore? Have they been hurting you?"

Daiyu shook her head. She then recounted to him what had happened in the afternoon.

Liu Jin then began piecing things together the reluctance of the maids to bathe Daiyu, their conversation about her stealing something in the past, the incident this afternoon, and tonight's episode at the dinner table.

Liu Jin's expression turned cold.

"Can you tell me the names of these maids?" He smiled but it didn't reach his eyes.

Daiyu nodded and began listing down their names.

"Okay. You don't have to worry about it anymore. Your Jin-gege will take care of it."

"Really?" Daiyu looked at him worriedly.

"Mmm." He stroked her head gently. "When you wake up tomorrow, everything will be okay again."

---

Late that night, Wang Jing finally returned home.

"Grandfather Wang, welcome back." Liu Jin greeted the old man from the stairs.

"Ah Jin. You're still awake?"

"Yes. May I have a word with you?"

"Can it wait till tomorrow? This old man's pretty tired tonight."

"I'm sorry Grandfather Wang, but it's about Daiyu."

" Speak."

for visiting.

Liu Jin sat down with Wang Jing and talked about the incidents that happened while the old man was away. Upon hearing the news, Wang Jing's fists trembled from anger. Butler Tang, who was with them, was likewise enraged. To think those maids would go behind their master's back!

"Thank you, Ah Jin. If it weren't for you, I'd probably never even hear of this." Rage flickered across Wang Jing's eyes.

"Grandfather Wang, may I know what happened for them to act this way?"

" You don't need to know. I will take care of it."

"I overheard them talking about Daiyu stealing something. Is this the reason why they're treating her badly?"

This brat was sharp! He sighed.

"Recently, a maid found a stash of missing jewelry underneath Xiao Yu's bed. They were from my late wife's collection and had gone missing sometime after Xiao Yu arrived at the mansion. I had always thought that it had been the maids who stole it, so I was pretty harsh on them. But when they found the jewelry under Xiao Yu's bed I couldn't really scold her. Those things, I would have given them to her anyway. They're as good as hers. That's why I told the maids not to bring it up anymore. But as you can see they've been taking it out on the poor child instead."

"Grandfather Wang, I can see your point in asking the maids to be silent about this. But I think your actions do no justice for Daiyu. The maids have taken your silence to mean that Daiyu did in fact steal the jewelry. Instead of clearing her name, Grandfather Wang, you have brought her harm by trying to protect her."

Wang Jing was taken aback. Was this kid really a seven-year-old? But still, he could not deny that the child made a very good point.

"But what if

"Grandfather Wang, more than anyone, Daiyu needs you to trust her the most. The same way she trusts you the most."

Butler Tang lowered his head and smiled. This child, he really knew how to move the old man's heart.

" You're right. Tomorrow, we'll see what we can find out about this."

Liu Jin smiled.

"Thank you, Grandfather Wang."

"Mmm. Now go sleep. Children should sleep early." He then waved the boy away with his hand.

When Liu Jin left, Wang Jing turned to Butler Tang.

"What do you think?"

"I think the child is right."

"That child. He takes after his grandfather so much. Both so sharp-tongued." He cringed and Butler Tang laughed.

---

The next day, Butler Tang led Liu Jin to the room where the jewelry was supposedly kept. Liu Jin took one glance and he knew right away.

"Daiyu didn't do it."

"Young master Jin?"

Liu Jin smirked.

"I'll show you Uncle Tang. Daiyu's innocence can easily be proven."
