I'll Tell You Every Day

Chapter 20: Chapter 20

"Can I ask? Like, not to be rude or anything but, why won't Wang Jing just get rid of Xiulan and her mother permanently? He doesn't look like he's a very morally upright man." Zhihao asked.

"Getting rid of Qiaoling won't give Wang Jing peace. Getting rid of his son's murderer will." Liu Jin replied.

"You mean that woman didn't

"He's not sure. He has a strong hunch, and I do too. But from what my grandfather told me, it seems like Wang Fengge had a lot of enemies. Besides, while Qiaoling may be smart and cunning, do you really think she could breach the mansion's security alone and tamper with Wang Fengge's car?"

" She had help?"

"Yeah. I think she had a backer. A strong one with money."

"Money?"

"She needed to hire a professional. I doubt that woman could do it without leaving any trace behind."

"Then where is that backer now? Why is Qiaoling still, you know, poor?"

"I don't know Maybe they had a falling out? In fact, I have a few lose ends I just can't seem to tie. Why was Daiyu not at the site of the car crash?"

Upon hearing her own name, Daiyu looked up to Liu Jin.

If they wanted Daiyu dead, they could have killed her, but they let her wander the streets instead. Liu Jin frowned at the thought.

Daiyu didn't like his frown so she put her hands on his face and stretched his mouth to form a smile.

"You mean, they didn't want her to die? But I thought Qiaoling wanted her gone?" Zhihao asked.

"That's why it doesn't make sense. The only explanation I can think of is, Qiaoling's backer only wanted Wang Fengge dead. Not Daiyu." Liu Jin took Daiyu's hands and kissed each of them.

" You think the old man has any leads? I mean, aside from Qiaoling."

"I think he does. He hasn't stopped investigating ever since. That old man can hold a grudge."

Daiyu took her hands back and continued stretching Liu Jin's face.

"So how bout you?"

"Mmm?" Liu Jin faced Zhihao, his hands trying to stop Daiyu.

"Like, you know, why not get rid of Xia Xiulan?" Zhihao tried testing the waters.

" We'll cross the bridge when we get there." He looked at Daiyu and bent down to kiss her forehead.

Daiyu blushed and covered her forehead with her hands.

"I won't let her harm Daiyu. But I hope "

Zhihao looked at the boy. He had a solemn face as he stared at Daiyu.

'Well, he grew up in the afterlife after all.' Zhihao thought.

for visiting.

Liu Jin was smart and very sly. Zhihao had no doubt that if pushed, he would not hesitate to retaliate. But to kill? Zhihao was not sure.

"You're too kind, Jin. Well, if in the end you can't do it, I'll do it for you."

'It's not like I haven't done it before.' A glint flashed across his eyes.

"No. I won't let you screw up your second life too." Liu Jin replied without looking at him.

Zhihao smiled. His heart felt warm.

"Awwww Jin! You're so sweet! Come! Give me a hug!"

"Ugh! Get off me!"

---

The next day, the mansion had seemingly changed overnight.

At the breakfast lounge, Daiyu sat silently, watching the new mansion staff.

"Xiao Yu? What's wrong? You don't like today's breakfast?" Wang Jing asked.

Daiyu shook her head.

"Grandpaw! Daiyu has new friends?" Daiyu tilted her head to one side in question.

Wang Jing chuckled.

"Mmm."

Wang Jing had replaced most of the mansion staff. For those who had mistreated Daiyu, he had dismissed them without a second thought. For those who did no wrong but to whom he no longer had confidence in, he moved them to work at another estate he had.

"Xiao Nuan, Xiao Ning, come here." The two maids obediently stepped forward.

"Xiao Yu, from now on, they will take care of you. Okay?"

Daiyu nodded.

The twin maids were the youngest staff in the mansion but had worked for Wang Jing for a long time. The old man had taken them in after their mother, an older maid, died and left them orphaned.

"Hello, young mistress!" Xiao Nuan greeted with a smile.

"Young mistress." Xiao Ning bowed her head in acknowledgment.

"Hello!" Daiyu beamed.

"Take care of her well." Wang Jing instructed.

"Of course, Master Wang." They replied in unison.

Meanwhile, a parcel arrived for Qiaoling. It came in a pink box with a large ribbon.

"It looks so pretty What is it?" Beside her, Xiulan stood watching, curious as well.

Failing to find the sender's name, she began opening the box.

Upon lifting the lid, she saw a pair of pale hands. It wore a beautiful bracelet and a few rings with huge gems.

"My! How lovely!"

However, the moment she touched the hand to take a ring, she realized how soft it was and that it wasn't a mannequin.

It was only then that she noticed the stench that came with the hands and the blood on its fingernails.

Her face went pale and she dropped the box with a scream.

"What kind of sick prank is this?!"

Trembling, Xiulan covered her mouth. She recognized those jewelry. Those were the ones she hid!

But whose hands were those?

'No It can't be' She went pale and her stomach churned.
