Chapter 24

Emergency Situation

King's POV

Ever since I woke up, I have had a very bad feeling that something is going to happen. Even now, I can feel in the wind that something is wrong.

They've said an unpleasant feeling is allegedly an omen of some sort. With how I'm feeling right now, I just hope I'm mistaken.

"My king, this is terrible!"

As if to tell me that my premonition had come true, a voice then echoed inside the audience room, and the reconnaissance knights who were supposed to be patrolling the borders were walking inside the room looking like they'd seen a ghost.

"What's wrong?"

"A large herd of about 200 dragons is now heading their way into our kingdom, and in the middle of the herd there's a very large dragon that looks like an S-class dragon!"

"What did you say? Is that true?!"

"There's no doubt about it!"

The reconnaissance captain's statements caused the knights around us to get nervous and start muttering to themselves.

"Calm down! Don't forget, this is the exact reason why we have been preparing for a very long time now!"

The king then shouted as a reminder to everyone around him.

After a while, all the knights became quiet and calmed down to focus on what the king had to say.

"Everyone, arm yourselves! We are going to fight and defend our kingdom!"

We will not lose!

Don't underestimate us, you overgrown lizards!

We are now completely different from the last time, when we only had one hero to defend us.

...

Zekudo's POV

I woke up really refreshed from sleeping on Rohee-san's warm, soft, and heavenly thighs.

It feels like I have recovered from my accumulated fatigue as my vision is clear and my mind feels refreshed.

While I was leisurely taking my classes, feeling really wonderful, an emergency situation was suddenly announced.

An S-class dragon was leading a large herd of A-class dragons towards our kingdom.

Together with Flambert-sensei, we rushed towards the first defensive wall.

When we arrived, Rohee-san and Katia-san were already there.

A lot of A-class knights were also there, busy preparing the ballistae and cannons.

The scene reminded me that we are indeed in a very serious situation and that it's true that an S-class dragon is really heading towards us.

"Captain Zekudo! Sensei! We have been waiting you."

"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting. Rohee-san, do you know when the herd of dragons will appear?" How long will it take for the herd of dragons to arrive here?"

"I don't know exactly when they will arrive, but our scouts told me that we would be able to see them within an hour."

"I see."

I then look out over the meadow from the ramparts of the wall where I'm standing.

This peaceful meadow within an hour will become a battlefield, and we are going to fight an S-class dragon of an unknown origin together with a large number of A-class dragons.

"I didn't expect that we would face an S-class dragon together with a herd."

Rohee-san nodded when Katia-san said that.

"You're right, and it seems to be a very large herd of over 200 dragons."

It makes me feel uneasy to think that a herd of 200 dragons is now approaching us because I've never fought such a large number of enemies before.

"With that many opponents, the four of us alone won't be able to deal with all of them. That's why let's cooperate and fight together with our allies."

Flambert-sensei then said, "That's right" while nodding.

We have a lot of allies around us, and that's why we won't lose that easily.

"Captain Zekudo!"

An unfamiliar voice called out to me, and when I looked at the owner of that voice, I saw a man in silver armor followed by several knights walking towards us,

"Yes?"

"I'm the person assigned to be the commander-in-chief in this battle. I look forward to working with you."

The commander-in-chief?

A very important person has suddenly appeared!

"Yes, I also look forward to working with you too."

After saying that, I bowed firmly while the commander-in-chief nodded back.

"I will now tell you our strategy to defeat the S-class dragon."

"Please tell us."

"We won't let you fight the hoard of the A-class dragon, as when you do that you will be too exhausted to fight the S-class dragon. That's why we will wipe out the A-class dragon first before you can move out."

"Wait, how are you going to do that?"

I felt that it would be too difficult for the knights to do that also, I believe the S-class dragons wouldn't just stand still while the knights were exterminating the A-class dragons.

"Fortunately, I heard that the S-class dragon is situated in the back of the herd, so we will use the ballistae, cannons, and long-range magic to cut down the number of A-class dragons that are deployed in the front."

"What if the dragons scattered?"

Flambert-sensei asked that question, looking really concerned about the plan.

"Don't worry, another unit will act as a bait for the dragon and we will lure them here by opening the gates of the first defensive wall."

"You're going to open the gates? If you do that, then the first defensive wall will be breached for no reason!"

Katia-san was surprised when she heard the plan, but in this situation, who wouldn't be surprised with that kind of plan.

I thought the same thing, but I knew right away what the Commander-in-Chief was thinking.

They will let the dragons pass through the narrow gate, and when the dragons are cramped together in that narrow space, they will easily bombard them with cannons and magic.

"We will let the dragons dive through the gate, and when they are cramped together, we will then fire them with all we've got to reduce their number."

"I see, but that is a very risky plan."

The Commander-in-Chief seems to agree with what Rohee-san said.

"You're right, there's a big risk with opening the gates and bringing the dragons closer to the city, but since we don't know what the S-class dragon will do, we can't really make a more detailed plan. That's why I believe this is the best course of action to reduce their numbers so that you can fight the S-class dragon in your best condition."

"I understand, Commander-in-Chief." Then I nodded.

"I also think that your strategy is the best way to deal with such a large number of dragons. That's why let's go with this strategy."

"Once we reduce the number of dragons, I will be counting on you to kill the isolated S-class dragon. And of course, we will support you as much as we can."

"Thank you very much."

Just as we were about to conclude our strategy meeting....

"They're here! A swarm of dragons is now heading towards the gate!" a knight who looked through the telescope shouted.
