11 - Rescue

The men with the Aproned Captain surrounded me, and when we took one step out of the room, I was startled.

I thought that there would be countless units lined up like the one I was in, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.

The enormous cylindrical type residential-esque unit, where artificial light trickled in from the atrium ceiling through the outer wall, could only be Akkad’s home. This unit was at the dead center of the chamber and surrounded left, right, up, and down by counter-attack weapons.

“This place is definitely Akkad’s main shelter. We didn’t even know this facility existed, so the transmitter Doktor Satow installed in advance really saved you.”

The Aproned Captain explained everything to me while we were on the run, but he said the Doktor installed a transmitter…? When did he do that?

I was able to get rescued thanks to that device, but I wonder why my chest feels so gloomy.

“Akkad’s allies are currently contacting him. We need to return to base within the hour.”

I was inspected by a suspicious device at the real Humbaba headquarters, which was inside a mountain, before being transported to an R&D facility on a well hidden solitary island.

When I arrived, Doktor Satow was already waiting for me, and to check my health, he secured my entire body to an examination machine.

“I see you successfully seduced him.”

He wanted to examine me further to make sure there was no damage to my internal organs, and only after he carefully held a diagnostic device to my abdomen did the Doktor nod in satisfaction.

“Well done. I’ll ask you for the details tomorrow.”

“Yuuki? It’s you, isn’t it, Yuuki!”

After the examination, I was told that it had been decided that I’d be transferred to the R&D department, so I was heading to my assigned quarters. On the way, I found a familiar brown-haired mop head, and I called out without thinking.

I ran up to him to confirm his number plate.

“Yuuki 511! I thought so! You lived!”

“If it isn’t Hiroto! Wow! It really has been a while!”

Yuuki was a combatant that went MIA in battle two months ago, so I was under the impression that he had died.

“After Bigfoot got done in, you, only your arm was…… I could only pick up your storage bangle, and-”

“Wai-, please don’t cry. At that time, I got blown away by one of Akkad’s attacks, but I, I lived. They looked like Akkad’s allies, but some people recovered my body, and after a while returned me to Humbaba. They fixed up my arm when I came back.”

Yuuki smiled with twinkling brown eyes, and patted my head.

Yuuki worked on whatever miscellaneous tasks needed to be done, but he was a hard-worker with a helpful attitude, so he was a really popular model-number among the grunts.

There were a large number of that lot number manufactured, and this specimen was the 511st.

However, he was the one and only specimen that looked after me and helped me through all sorts of problems after I first became a combatant.

“What else was used in the exchange…?”

“Oh, so you knew. I also knew at the time, but they had Humbaba pay something like 100,000 in gold, and then they turned me over.”

“So it was like that… thank god….”

“The guy that returned me was almost entirely withdrawn from the front line. There were a lot of guys I didn’t know over there.”

“Well, if you had known them, you would have had to fight more…”

“That’s true. I thought they’d all kill me.”

“It’s good that we’ve been assigned to the same squad.”

I separated from Yuuki after talking to him, and I unlocked my quarters with a sniveling nose.

The next day, I was summoned by the top brass, and as I explained the extent of my time under captivity, they decided to assign me to do general duties for the R&D department.

On top of being lucky enough to get into the same squad as Yuuki, I was glad to find that the squad leader was someone who took responsibility for their actions and gave specific instructions.

When my “friendly-mutton-chops” boss from before actually bothered to give instructions at all, they were vague and unhelpful.

“Ask me anything,” he’d say in one breath, but when you asked for a more in depth explanation about something, he’d reply with “You don’t even know this much?” And then, when we put our heads together to try to figure it out ourselves, and we’d inevitably fail, he’d abuse 1 us horribly. He was that sort of difficult boss.

But posts above squad leader have to be humans, so we had no choice but to just obediently take it.

Compared to that, this workplace is a lucky break.

I wonder if my colleagues in my previous squad are doing well. It’d be great if those guys could quickly transfer out as well.

In order to get used to my new job, I dove head first into full-time operation.

But, when I walk down a hallway, or just before I go to sleep, for a brief moment, I’ll feel Akkad’s burly arms or the touch of his long fingers; I’ll remember those sensations and I’ll get flustered and red.

I did this, and that, and amazing things with a hunk too good looking to look at head-on. Even if I were to say, “Hey, I fucked that dude!”, nobody would believe me, so I haven’t.

The weird thing is that even though Akkad has killed so many of my allies, I don’t begrudge the guy even a little bit.

I definitely should have felt some sort of anger or heart pain, but I don’t hold any negative emotions towards the man at all.

This must be because I’m an android.

That, or I’m actually attracted to the guy.

But there’s no way.
