After my escape, I did have the thought to immediately oppose Gilgamesh, but I decided to make my number one priority rescuing Tokigawa.

At the security firm that I occasionally mixed in with, I was reunited with Mark, who was affiliated with the same special forces unit as me, much to the surprise of both of us.

I told him how I was sold to Humbaba and rebuilt, and how I ended up falling in love with a lab worker. “Seriously? A dude?” he blurted, and then immediately suspected I’d fallen victim to Stockholm Syndrome. I had also thought of that possibility, but even after I escaped that situation, I judged that my enamored heart had not changed.

Not long after, Doktor Satow started developing Kaijin one after the other to become my successors, and began launching attacks on Gilgamesh and their allies.

I was publicized by the media as a hero of justice who protected companies from Humbaba, raising my popularity and clout.

One day, I’ll denounce Gilgamesh on the front page of every media outlet. Then I can at least grant Tokigawa’s wish.

The first time I spotted Tokigawa on the battlefield, I couldn’t believe that he was actually there.

He was just standing there, right in front of me; I was so happy, I didn’t know what to do with myself.

Cute. The way he looked hiding in the shadows and shooting his compact gun; the way he looked when he concentrated too hard and didn’t hear his orders; even the way he looked when his superiors got angry and he became dejected, he was just too cute.

Quite simply, in order to… verify his activities, I purposely started arriving on scene late, and even started getting into verbal arguments with the enemy Kaijin.

When Tokigawa was a lab worker, he always hide the shape of his body under a white lab coat, but now that he was wearing a battlesuit1, his figure shouldn’t even be broadcasted on the morning news. I’ll have to make sure he doesn’t get recorded on camera for anything meant for children.

Every time Tokigawa was deployed, I dealt just the right amount of damage and tried to make off with him, but he had an excellent spotter and every time they managed to escape. Fuck, that asshole, stop getting in my way.2.

After a fairly close fight, I finally succeeded in eliminating his annoyingly reliable partner that was getting in the way, and I was finally able to take Tokigawa… Hiroto home, but he was utterly terrified. It was understandable. I’d become too strong.

It had already been dangerous, in a number of ways, feeling the warmth of his body (there had always been glass between us), but the second I looked away, I saw such a breathtaking sight when I turned back around that my mind just exploded. There was a BANG inside my ears. Literally.

When our skin came together, I felt your quick, baby bird-like heartbeat and the temperature of your body down to my heart. You seemed to be melting everywhere I touched.

Your damp blue-gray eyes. You’re so beautiful.

The morning after, I reflected a lot. Hiroto was extremely good at sex.

I hadn’t been expecting to have sex, but it’s a good thing we did3. Wait, no, I’m wrong. I shouldn’t have fucked a virgin five times in a row.

I made sure not to shy away from my savagery, and, acting honestly with a serious-and-proper-Japanese-man-esque aura, I somehow managed to win Hiroto over.

First and foremost, I kicked aside the company’s inquiries and interferences, and secured a four day break. During these four days, I wanted to let him fall for me, so that he wouldn’t want to leave me.

Without his memories, he was brave, loyal, and thought of his comrades; from what I could see, he really hadn’t changed from the Tokigawa stuck in that lab.

But his expression has changed since then.

It was full of gentleness and peace.

Were you a person who smiled like that, before you lost your family?

Rather than having him fall for me, I fell for him all over again in those four days.

After my holiday, I reluctantly went back to work. I had asked a coworker to analyze Hiroto on the down-low, and when we were discussing his genetic information, Humbaba launched an attack on my company.

This was the first time they’d ever directly attacked us.

I had a bad feeling about this.

After they snatched Hiroto, I recruited supporters and set up a company.

Such a cutie, now that I’ve had him in my hands once, I’m not going to let him just fall through my fingers.

I can’t leave him with those bastards at Humbaba, who can’t even treat humans right. I have to bring him back as soon as possible.

Using information we pulled out of a POW and guidance from the spies we’ve planted, we were able to pinpoint Hiroto’s location pretty much to the degree.

We continued to analyze the info on the attaché of combatants and their equipment.

The problem was the Kaijin.

They were being held in that development facility, where we had only a single worker hidden in a small department.

If we attacked the facility where Hiroto was being held, worst case scenario, we might have to face off against multiple never-before-seen Kaijin.

“Let’s go with a two-pronged assault. Genia will do an aerial assault on the main building and impede the combat attache’s response. At the same time, Mark and I will attack the development facility and rescue the target.”

“What are we going to do if the Kaijin appear?”

“Ideally we’ll withdraw before they can come out of the innermost sanctum, but if we don’t make it out in time, then I’ll exhaust everything in the shield to cover you.”

It was such a big expense, but the lives of my comrades are at stake. It’s a necessary expense.

In the end, when we attacked, Hiroto came to us on his own and we were able to immediately secure him, but a gravity-controlling Kaijin was far beyond our expectations.

I could see that the guy had a bizarre attachment to Hiroto.

To make matters worse, when he was on the brink of losing, he revealed something unbelievable, and tried to trap Hiroto back to their side.

Hiroto was carrying a cute babie in his belly.

I for one was happy. I say, even though Doctor David Cho had already pointed out the possibility to me.

However, this wasn’t something like Gabriel visiting Mary, it was the worst case scenario. Hiroto’s face was bloodless, and he was even shaking.

We had planned to figure out if he actually got pregnant by starting with your standard, “How have you been feeling lately?”, and then gradually informing him of the situation, but now that’s out the window.

After we brought him back to Sumer, regardless of anything, I did everything I could to let him regain some stability and soundness of mind. Fortunately, the physical breadth of the company had become stupidly big, so we were able to let him freely wander around a pretty wide range of area within the building. When I asked his impression of the place, he replied, “I’ve always had hikkikomori tendencies, and compared to when I was at Humbaba, it’s much more comfortable.” I’m really glad I set up this company.

Even then, he was still in danger of getting abducted, so I set up a 24 hour surveillance system to track him throughout the day.

Genia and Mark were mouthing off that I’d become a stalker, but they were wrong, I am absolutely nothing of the sort. When I happen to have some free time, I’ve just taken to glancing at the footage, is all…

Although Hiroto hasn’t spoken any words of love back to me, I’ve been able to feel his goodwill through his gaze and attitude.

Under the pretext of sleeping together, we’ll enter the same bed, and because he’s softhearted, even with a red face, he’ll service my thing. The best sight in the world are those neat and clean fingertips wrapping around and caressing my desire. I don’t think you can say that he doesn’t like me at this point.

He confirmed it with me. Hiroto… Tokigawa will definitely give birth to the baby.

Fate is a strange thing. Tokigawa was a cautious man. He was a repository of sorrow, and made insane choices, but he was incredibly strong when it came to sticking to his decisions.

If he had his memories intact when we rescued him, knowing that he had not only lent a hand to Doktor Satow, but everything else in his past, no matter how much I loved him, he  probably would have never accepted it.

He would have told me, “I don’t have the right to see you,” and I have no doubt he would have kindly shook off my hands and wished me happiness.

But instead he was brainwashed, rebuilt into a pregnancy-type android, and was forced to have a relationship with me. And on top of all of that, he even conceived a child.

He’s probably realized that I’m the only one he has left that he can rely on.

He’ll give birth to a child by another android that shouldn’t have been able to get him pregnant in the first place. And because he became such a special being, he has absolutely no means to leave my patronage.

""

A chill ran up my spine when I realized this. I really didn’t need this bittersweetness.

This world has been too cruel to you. It’s alright if you don’t know anything and you never remember a thing. I’ll protect you within my arms, and let you spend the rest of your life in peace.

However, no matter how much I want that for you, whether or not your memories return, someday we’ll have to talk about what happened.

For Hiroto, not having his memories is the same as stealing the memories of his beloved family. The memories of his painful, unpleasant sins and the memories of his irreplaceable family. Love and pain were indivisible.

Footnotes

Fun fact: while I’ve translated this as ‘battlesuit’ or catsuit, in the raws, it just says ‘suit’. So, for a long time, I thought ‘trademark goon suit’ was a literal suit and tie that the goons in shady syndicates always seem to wear… it was only when I read this chapter that I realized they meant battlesuits i.e. the futuristic skin-tight catsuits the likes of which Makoto would wear in Ghost in the Shell, or the pilots in Evangelion 〇ぁっく, lit. f*ck specifically, he means he doesn’t regret that it happened, more equivalent to “it wasn’t a bad thing”
