Chapter 49

“I’ve never heard of a family that has a higher reputation than the imperial family. It’s absurd.”

Hearing her words, Cassiax’s eyes darkened cruelly.

“Maybe she doesn’t know because she’s a fool, but if a family like that and the northern land join hands, wouldn’t that… be bad for the Imperial Family?”

Cassiax listened to her but didn’t answer. He was lost in his own thoughts.

“Why did she say she would go to such a scary place…”

Sasha muttered as if she could not understand Rose Etoile. Cassiax recalled the day Rose slapped him on the cheek and said that she would go to the North. A bitter taste came up from his throat.

“I’ll go instead!”

“What?

“If someone has to sacrifice anyway, I’ll go!”

At that time, he couldn’t bear the agitation and sent Rose to the north out of anger.

Still, he regretted that decision. So much so that he even sent someone to get rid of her before she reached North. Because if she wasn’t his, then no one can have Rose Etoile. It was better that she disappears from this world completely.

The attempt failed, but he was convinced that even if Rose went to the North, she would not be able to get along well with the King. She would either die or be killed as miserably as the previous Queen, or she’ll be utterly abandoned by that indifferent beast-like person.

That was what he thought. But things were becoming a little weird.

“She looks relaxed and the servants are very polite. She’s being treated with respect and doing well.” He recalled the words he heard from the servant of the Etoile family.

‘Doing well and receiving respectful treatment…?’

Are you saying that after rejecting this body and going after that savage bastard, you’re having a good life?

Cassiax’s eyes were murderous. He wanted to kill both Rose and her damned husband with his bare hands.

“Will she really come to His Highness’ wedding? I’m really curious about it…”

Sasha showed her sincere feelings.

She wondered what kind of woman Rose Etoile really was. A woman that even from a distance, her mere presence made the Crown Prince so angry to the point of exploding.

He hated her so much that Sasha felt jealous. She hated her. She hated her as much as she was curious about her.

‘What kind of woman is she to make Cassiax act like that?’

Even now, as soon as he heard about her, Cassiax was expressing his hatred so openly.

“I hope Your Highness becomes Emperor soon.”

Sasha gently rubbed her face against his chest to change the chilly atmosphere.

When Sasha said something like that, Cassiax always sternly warned her to be careful with her words. But today, he quietly listened to them.

Maxim and Rose, who were sent off by Marianne, came back to the castle rather quickly.

Rose followed Maxim closely, recalling what had happened at dawn. When he left the room without a word, she was worried he would leave her alone. But when she went out for breakfast, he was sitting at the table talking to Marianne.

Fortunately, he behaved naturally, as if nothing had happened.

‘Uh? That-‘

As they were almost at the castle and were about to cross the drawbridge, they saw two horses coming down from the opposite side.

‘Solstern soldiers!’

They wore a dark green cloth with a black belt. It was obviously Solstern’s uniform.

The soldiers glanced at Rose and Maxim, and then swiftly passed them. They seemed to think of them as just commoners.

‘Messengers? Why are they here? Did something happen?’

Rose was anxious. And, as if Maxim also was suspicious, he looked back at them and started running faster towards the castle.

When they reached the castle, Freddie was standing outside. Seeing that he had something in his hand, it was clear that he had just received a message from them.

“Your Majesty, welcome. You’re just in time, a messenger has just arrived from Solstern.”

Before he could finish speaking, Maxim, who jumped off the horse, reached out his hand, and Freddie quickly placed the letter he had just received in Maxim’s hand.

Rose looked anxiously at his face as he opened the letter and read it quickly. Maxim’s face didn’t change, so she couldn’t even guess what the letter was about.

“…Did something happen?”

When Rose couldn’t bear the nervousness and asked impatiently, Maxim handed the letter to Freddie as if nothing had happened.

“They sent a wedding invitation.”

“Marriage? If it’s marriage- no way!”

Cassiax was the only person who could send a wedding invitation to the King of the North. Rose didn’t even need to ask. She was just curious about the other party.

“W-who is the partner?”

Maxim looked at Freddie instead of answering. Freddie hastily handed the letter to Rose.

Rose breathed deeply once as if she were preparing herself and opened it.

As she read, her eyes gradually became more and more dismayed.

“Muriel?”

As Rose stumbled slightly, Freddie, who was beside her, quickly supported her.

“Your Majesty!”

Rose knew. Cassiax didn’t just send an invitation. He was telling her to pay attention.

‘Look at who took your place.’

Cassiax would have wanted her to regret her decision, but Rose felt guilty for Lady Muriel. She thought she had saved her, but as a result, a demon called Cassiax trapped her in his claws.

“Ha… How could this be?”

Her disconcerted appearance was strange for everyone standing there. In particular, Maxim was in a bad mood after seeing her reaction.

Rose seemed to be devastated at the news of Cassiax’s marriage.

To those who don’t know the story, she could look like a woman who lost her lover.

“You’re not going to go, are you?”

Rose looked back at Maxim with nervous eyes.
