“We’re almost there.”

While talking to Ad, she reached the central square before she knew it.

With a slight push from the back, her body naturally moved forward.

She looked back quickly, but it was just dark as if no one was there from the beginning.

He appeared and disappeared in an instant. All she knew about the child was that he is older than her and had dark blond hair. With this little information, it seemed that she would never be able to find the child named Ad again.

I really wanted to meet and thank you officially, but I couldn’t do that.

With one step forward she finally got out of the dark alley. When she arrived at the square injured people were seen lying down here and there. Uniformed knights were walking around, helping people and stabilizing the streets.

The beautiful fountain was left with only debris due to an unidentified explosion.

Papers were scattered around her feet as she stepped forward further.

“What is this….”

Lots of paper was scattered, enough to cover the square. It’s probably from the explosion. She picked up the paper and looked at what was written.

Everything that was scattered on the floor, the same thing was written.

She understood what it meant the moment she read it. What the sun and earth on the paper refers to. She thought they were kind enough to tell the cause of the explosion.

At that moment, her body was pulled by someone with a familiar voice.

Fay was breathing heavily and uttering the word ‘Thank God’.

“Liel, are you okay? Did you get hurt?”

Fay pulled out of her arms and looked around her body to see if she was hurt. Seeing the child, who always seemed drowsy and relaxed, getting so nervous, she could quickly see that he was very worried about her.

Habitually, she almost said she was okay. However, as if a thorn was stuck in her throat, she could not spit a word out of her mouth.

Even if she had a hard time in her life, she never said it out loud. It was her last bastion. If she admits that she’s having a hard time with her own mouth, she might feel weak and collapse. So, she always said she was okay.

She thought like that in her previous life. But having a family in this life made her quite happy. While thinking deeply, she saw someone approaching at a high speed far away. Soon, the figure got closer and she could see it in more detail.

Cardin, who arrived in front of her in a disheveled outfit, had a pale face and looked only at her. 

How much did he run around, his clothes were messy and covered with dust.

I was going to tell him that I came back safely.

Cardin’s knee thrust roughly to the floor.

She could hear Cardin’s low sigh, but when she came to her senses, Cardin hugged her tightly that she had a hard time breathing. 

Their bodies were trembling slightly. It didn’t matter whose it was coming from. Her left shoulder hugged by Cardin without a gap felt somewhat damp.

“Miss!”

Elvin was seen running over Cardin’s shoulder in the distance. When Elvin arrived, he looked at Cardin, who was shaking with her in his arms, and remained silent.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry…….”

A voice that seemed to be suppressed was heard in her ear. Cardin repeatedly apologized.  His large hand ran through her hair with a crude touch.

The dam that was barely blocked began to crack.

“Heuk….”

She tried to close her lips, but the sobbing that leaked to her mouth only intensified. Like a huge rock fell from the sky on the calm lake, creating a huge wave. In the end, the sorrow that she had been trying to hold down exploded.

“Heukkk!”

She buried her face in Cardin’s shoulder and shed tears haphazardly. As she cried continuously, her body, which had been hit by people, ached incomparably more than before.

“I, I’m in so much pain. I was so scared.… and…….”

“Yes.”

“Oh, I met some scary men… heukk!”

Thinking about it again made her feel even more sad. She continued to speak without hesitation while sobbing and being hugged by Cardin. She poured out another bucket of tears as if her tear glands were broken at Cardin’s response.

Cardin stroked her head with his big hand and repeatedly apologized. As time passed, her sniffles subsided, and the trembling of the hands on her head gradually calmed down.

The nanny, who sent her off with a smile, saying, “Have a good time,” fainted when she saw her coming with Cardin. Not surprisingly, her hair was sparse and her clean clothes were full of dirt and stained to the point where it was hard to recognize their color.

Cardin was also not much different.

“The child is very surprised, so let her go in and rest.”

Cardin patted her on the back all the way from the square to the duchy. He handed her over to the nanny saying it would be better to rest in her room.

“Yes, I see. Princess, please come this way…….”

The nanny hugged her and hurried to the room.

As soon as they arrived in the room, she soaked herself in warm water and told her nanny her worries. When she took off her clothes to wash up, the wounds that had been covered by clothes were revealed. The bruise was so severe that the white skin turned bright red. The nanny, who saw the wound, reeled in surprise once again.

She seemed very upset that Emiliette went out to play at the harvest festival for the first time in her life and came back after a big accident. The nanny washed her body clean in warm water and brought a cup of lukewarmly heated milk.

She also stopped the nanny from calling the doctors. Now, she just wanted to relax. Eventually, the nanny carefully applied medicine to the affected area and treated it.

“Everything’s fine now. Shall we go to bed now? My princess.”

The nanny covered her with a warm blanket and patted her at regular intervals as she gently closed her eyes. The night is so deep that it would not be strange to fall asleep right away, as if fainting from the darkness that fell outside the window.

However, apart from the fatigue accumulated in her body, her mind became clearer. And most of all, she hated the darkness that filled the room.

How long has it been? When she closed her eyes, the nanny checked if she was breathing evenly, and quietly left the room.

She opened her eyes wide when she saw that her nanny was not coming back. No matter how hard she tried to sleep, she couldn’t sleep. She got out of bed carefully. She didn’t want to be in the room, so she wandered around the duchy and if she gets tired, she’ll go back to her room to sleep.

As she wandered aimlessly, she saw a room with a light leaking in the distance.

Her room is in the main building of the duke’s mansion. When they changed the servants, her room in the annex was also moved, and it occurred to her that Cardin’s private bedroom is also located in the main building.

At a glance, the antique door showed that this was Cardin’s room.

“I guess you’re still up.”

At a time when everyone was in a deep sleep, it seems that Cardin wasn’t able to sleep either. There was a small crack in the door. She pushed her foot inside as if she were attracted by the light leaking through the door.

So far, she has been to Cardin’s office a lot of times, but it was her first time in his bedroom.

When she fully entered the room, the first thing she noticed was a huge portrait. A woman who was sitting on a chair with her light purple hair fluttering, and Cardin who was looking kindly at her. The picture was so vivid that she could see every single strand of her curly hair.

Reina, who was smiling brightly in the picture, had the happiest smile in the world. The vivid emerald eyes, as if they were recording, sparkled between the finely curved eyes.

Sometimes she looked in the mirror and wondered. What would Reina look like, who gave birth to her and gave her a name that means that she will shine with love?

Although it was just a picture, Reina has a very beautiful face. In particular, she couldn’t take her eyes off at the bright smile that would even make everyone seeing it happy.

She turned her head to the dull sound of something falling on the carpet. Looking back, there was Cardin looking her way with his eyes wide open. And on the floor right next to him is a large bottle, tilted and pouring out red liquid. Red marks were spreading over the thick carpet on the floor. The liquid from the tilted bottle was already wetting the foot of the Cardin.

“Papa, do you drink?”

At her question, Cardin who was staring blankly at her hid the bottle behind his back with a quick movement as if he had come to his senses.

“Why are you still up…?” 

Cardin approached her and asked. He was also asked why she was walking around alone in the middle of the night.

“Just… midnight exercise?”

She mumbled, pushing the carpet with her toes. She didn’t want to talk about not being able to sleep because she didn’t like the dark. Cardin, who was staring at her, bent his knees and calmly opened his mouth.

“If you don’t sleep early, you won’t grow tall.”

“Hmph. I’m old enough to be fooled by that. You think I’m a baby.”

She grumbled and turned her head.

She heard a low laugh in front of her. He seemed to have no expression for a while, but seeing him smile even a little bit made her feel less stuffy.

“I know. It’s a shame that I should’ve fooled you when you were a baby.”

Cardin’s mouth, which had been slightly raised, quickly dropped. He scoured her face with his hand, hugged her lightly.

“I’ll take you to your room, so finish your midnight exercise now.”
