Chapter 28: Lowly Monarch

In the center of Maple Forest City, in a magnificent hall.

Sitting on the throne was a slightly old but dignified figure. He was the Monarch of the Red Moon Empire, Noxia. In front of him, a figure was kneeling on the ground.

“Right Minister, is what you said true?”

The Right Minister replied with certainty, “Your Majesty, Mage Ye Tian did appear at the competition held by Crescent Moon Mountain and killed the overseas mage who tried to destabilize the Empire.”

The Monarch suddenly stood up from his throne and hurriedly said, “Where is he? Did you invite him back?”

It was obvious that he had always cared about Ye Tian’s news and could not even control his emotions.

He slowly shook his head as he met the Monarch’s gaze.

“Your Majesty, the mage left after making his move.”

Noxia seemed to have lost all his strength as he sat back heavily on the throne and looked out of the hall.

“Your Majesty, perhaps Lord Mage has returned to his residence.”

After a short silence, the Right Minister reminded him carefully.

Actually, he was not sure himself. Considering that Ye Tian had once lived in Maple Forest City, if Ye Tian was a nostalgic person, he might come back to take a look.

“Yes, that makes sense!”

The Monarch immediately regained his spirits. He immediately summoned his attendants and asked them to quickly bring their children to the city gate to wait.

Then, the Monarch sent the Right Minister back to rest. He turned around and walked into the back hall. After washing up and changing his clothes, he headed to meet up with his children and walked towards Ye Tian’s residence under the protection of the guards.

“My lord, His Majesty has come to visit.”

A servant stood at the door of the backyard and reported.

“Invite him to the front room. I’ll be right there.”

Soon, Ye Tian’s voice was heard. The servant nodded and left.

Not long after, Ye Tian walked out and tidied his messy clothes. He looked at the backyard with a complicated gaze and sighed before leaving.

In the front hall, many servants were busy preparing tea and pastries. The manor’s butler stood beside the Monarch, occasionally stealing glances at him, the two youths, and a girl beside him.

The butler knew that the Monarch’s arrival must have something to do with Ye Tian’s return.

Not long after, footsteps sounded from the side of the front hall and Ye Tian walked out with a cold expression.

The Monarch was stunned for a moment before he reacted and thought to himself, “The mage hasn’t changed at all, be it in terms of appearance or temper.”

Ye Tian walked to the main seat and waved his hand.

“You guys go down first.”

The butler reacted quickly and immediately led the servants out of the front hall, leaving this place to the Monarch and his children.

As the Monarch’s guards had already informed him in advance, they did not enter the front hall.

After the others left, the Monarch stood up and bowed to Ye Tian.

“Noxia greets Mage Ye. It’s been many years since we last met, but you haven’t changed at all. How enviable.”

Surprise appeared in the eyes of the two men and one woman. The older child in the lead stood up and bowed with his younger brother and sister.

Ye Tian nodded gently and said calmly, “Sit down. There is no need for such mundane etiquette for me. Is there a reason for your visit?”

Noxia, who had just returned to his chair, immediately stood up again and said expectantly, “Lord Mage, I want to know if there’s any way to extend my lifespan?”

Extend lifespan?

Suddenly, Ye Tian was stunned for a second before he composed himself and sized up the Monarch.

He realized that although Noxia was not old, his body was filled with fatigue, like a machine that was overly squeezed and could be scrapped at any time.

He must be overworked. Ye Tian guessed that after taking down the Frost Snow Empire, the Red Moon Empire’s area had almost doubled, so there were more problems to deal with.

Ye Tian was helpless against the longing gaze.

“No.”

Noxia appeared very calm as he slowly sat down. As if he was mentally prepared before asking, he revealed a self-deprecating smile.

“Even if I die, I won’t feel guilty facing my ancestors. It’s just that the Empire hasn’t stabilized yet. I’m worried about handing it to the children. They’re still too young.”

Ye Tian did not reply. His kindness to the Red Moon Empire had long ended.

After waiting for a long time for a response, a trace of anger flashed in the depths of Noxia’s eyes. As the Monarch, he had never lowered himself like this.

However, he was facing Ye Tian, a Mage who could bury an army single-handedly!

The Monarch took a small breath and the corners of his mouth curled up.

“Mage Ye, my three children have all undergone magic tests and have the potential to become mages. Many academies want to take them in, but in my heart, you’re the strongest mage in the world today, so I haven’t agreed to them. Can you take them in as your disciples?”

Ye Tian shook his head without hesitation. When he saw the Monarch open his mouth, he raised his palm to stop him and spoke first.

“If there’s nothing else, Your Majesty, please go back. I’m tired.”

It was impossible to take in a disciple. He only knew some basic magic. The reason why he could grow quickly was that he relied on his unlimited lifespan and the True Spirit Ignition Spell.

To ordinary people, this method was simply a one-way trip to hell. Therefore, he had nothing to impart to them.

Ye Tian muttered in his heart. Furthermore, he did not want to have any emotional interactions with others, be it friendship, kinship, or master-disciple relationship.

Noxia’s eyes were filled with unwillingness. Ye Tian was now publicly acknowledged as the strongest mage. If he could become the children’s disciple, anyone who dared to harm the Empire in the future would have to consider whether they would anger Ye Tian.

However, when he turned around and met Ye Tian’s unquestionable gaze, the Monarch sighed softly and stood up to leave with the three children.

Sometimes, the identity of the Monarch was not omnipotent, especially when facing a powerful person like Ye Tian.

Standing outside Ye Tian’s residence, the Monarch looked at the sky in confusion.

Why was Mage Ye Tian so heartless?

Could this be the reason why he became stronger?

No one could give Noxia an answer. As he got into the carriage with the children, he noticed that the three children were feeling a little depressed.

“Relax. Mage Ye Tian has no ill intentions towards me. He… has always been a very kind person. Yes, except towards the enemy.”

Noxia did not want the children to anger Ye Tian after his death. He rubbed the only girl’s head and continued, “I’ve told your brothers and sisters many times. I’ll emphasize it again today. You must not anger Mage Ye Tian in the future, understand?”

Maple Forest City did not change because of Ye Tian’s return. Days passed and in the blink of an eye, ten years had passed.
