In The DC World With A System

Chapter 71 - 45 Camelot's test begins

The two managed to escape from Manticore when he was writhing in pain and reach the tunnel which earlier served as the sewage tunnel. Originally he was heading for his hideout but seeing a small demons flying towards them Thomas changed the direction and hid himself here.

This hideout isn't bad either for the foul smell may hide their sent and prevent any of the monsters from finding them.

Thomas hasn't hidden his face so Batman has seen the face of his savior which made his face turn sour.

Batman and Thomas aren't on good terms, especially after their last talks. As such it wouldn't be a problem for Thomas to leave him be, yet he saved him. This made his confused as well as curious and he asked, " Why did you save me?"

Thomas gave him a look and didn't bother to grace him with a reply.

Instead he revealed a holographic protection of the map of the tunnel. He points towards a certain direction and said, " If you walk in that direction, You will reach the outlet of the sewage. I am sure you can call help from there. " he didn't want to start anymore than necessary and walks towards the direction they ran from.

Batman understood that at his current state he is a liability for him. He didn't refuse and asked, "" What about you?"

Thomas cannot reveal his true purpose and acted like he is going something for the best of everyone.

He replied back with as much goodwill as he could gather, " I will scout the area and gather intel. This level of action has most likely attracted attention of some organisations which will send it's forces here.

I cannot do much to support them, but I can help them with my intel. "To increase his charm he even have a bright smile on his face.

After all it isn't a complete lie. If someone come looking for help, he will give this information to them but it will never be free.

He will be self righteous and stand true to his ideals. It will be done under the principle of equivalent exchange.

Batman looked in his eyes to see if he is lying, but it was the truth. He cannot believe someone as selfish and cruel as Thomas would do anything for the Greater Good.

" Why? Why are you putting yourself in danger?" He inquired feeling guilty that someone is working hard to protect his city while he can only watch.

" Why are you trying to be a hero?" He shouted at Thomas not caring if anyone heard his shouts.

Thomas laughed at his words. This angered him. He hissed, " What are you laughing at?"

He looks at him and replied back earnestly, "If you think I am trying to be a hero then you are wrong. People like you who dont care about themselves and put themselves in danger for others are hero. True heroes are like you, hiding in the shadows protecting people not caring what others think about you.

Out of all those vigilante running around, I only regard you and superman as a hero. Both of you are too selfless for your own good."

With those words he left behind a shell shocked Batman who had no idea what to say after that.

It isn't because of Batman but it us Thomas acting. He used his magic to cause the emotions in Bruce to bubble up if certain words or emotions are flared even a bit.

As such even a small shock can have enough effect to make Bruce speechless.

All this magic fall under the category of Sensory magic.

While all of this was going on, The real body of Thomas seem to be sleeping in his hotel room. In fact, he wasn't actually sleeping but he was unconscious as his soul was busy.

Thomas's conscience once again left his body and this time it landed in front of a large majestic castle which gave off a feeling of sacredness and glory.

" This is Camelot?" He asked himself, and his question was answered by someone who appeared by his side, "This is in fact Camelot's body while I am the spirit of Camelot. "

This sudden voice and arrival freaked out Thomas as he jumped a few steps and prepared himself for battle with his Grimoire and magic spell battle ready.

" Good thing you aren't a naive fool, or else you would have failed even before your test had officially started." Camelot remarked rudely and walked towards the closed doors of the Castle. The main door of the castle opened slowly as he nearest the door.

The form that the spirit of Camelot took was that of a a middle aged man in his prime with smooth blond hair and a neat beard and armors on his body. His attire was akin to a knight of the Medieval Era.

" Follow me, I will take you to your test. " he said while heading inside the Castle. He didn't care whether Thomas was alright or anything. Instead of being excited about having a new owner, it was like he wanted to get this thing over with as soon as possible.

Thomas didn't care much about it and followed Camelot inside.

As they walked through the gate they were passing through the town which was built inside the castle.

Thomas looked around the empty streets and building with curiosity. There are many armours stationed around the then castle but no living being was around. It seems like a ghost town. It seems like Camelot isn't completely a lost case for he explained it to him, "This castle is Camelot, the fabled castle of King Arthur Pendragon.

Because of the continuous wars before peace, the castle itself was the township of people, unlike how things changed over time. The seat of King Arthur, royal residence is built on the center which is your test. "

" What do you mean?" Thomas inquired. He remembered that even in medieval age, the kings used to build the tallest buildings for themselves so that they can look far and wide. As such the tallest building should be visible to him from a far.

But there is no such architecture. All the buildings were of similar height. It was as of they are hidden under a magic spell or illusion.

His doubts were awarded when Camelot spoke, " You are a mage, therefore the test is unique. You will have to find the main building within an hour time. If you fail, you will lose Camelot. "

After saying that he whisked away.
