The builders were working to restore all the buildings and infrastructure of the Royal Palace grounds.

Wang Ke didn't have time to watch the whole recovery process; instead he went to play Mahjong rounds with the demons.

“Guys, do you know what this ley line dragon is used for? Two Bam!” Wang Ke asked as he played his tile.

The demon following Wang Ke’s turn said as he played a tile, “You’re asking me? Beats me! The ley line doesn’t seem to have much use for humans. But it might be beneficial to demonic beasts! Four Cracks!”

“Demonic beasts?” Wang Ke was a little surprised.

“Yeah, do you know anything about the Dragon Gate Assembly?” the demon asked.

“Of course; I went there once. It was a place called Dragon Cultivation Town near the bank of the Miasmic Sea. The town hosts the assembly once every decade! Each immortal sect will send their disciples to participate. A lot of mortals will go there to be recruited! Anyone chosen by the immortal sects will be like a carp leaping through the dragon’s gate; they will enter an immortal sect!” Wang Ke reminisced.

“That’s right. That day, the place will be enshrouded by leaked dragon Qi, which makes it easy for immortal sects to choose potential disciples who have great fortune in cultivation. The leaked dragon Qi is not very useful for people like us, and it always lures demonic beasts to that place,” the demon explained.

And so, Wang Ke played Mahjong while trying to fish out useful information from them. Meanwhile, he brainstormed and speculated.

The righteous disciples that escaped from the Qing Capital sat in the hall to heal themselves while Zhang Shenxu lay on a bed.

A muscular man wearing a purple-gold Taoist robe stood in front of Zhang Shenxu while observing the latter. The man had a chowrie in his hand and his hair was tied into a taoist bun.

Zhang Shenxu’s face was no longer pale after being treated. He gradually opened his eyes.

Next came shock, as he recognized the muscular man standing before him. “Sect Lord? Why are you here? How did I come back?”

“You knocked the hell out of my gate the moment you guys returned to the sect; how do you expect me to not come? Haha, not bad; I’ve already fixed your concussion. I have also flushed out the drug in your body. You lost too much blood; stay in the sect and take some time to recover! I’m sure it won’t take long!” said the taoist-robed man with a smile.

That man was the Golden Crow Sect Lord.

“Me? I lost too much blood? How come?” Zhang Shenxu was confused.

He still didn’t know what had happened back in the Qing Capital.

“Senior apprentice-brother Shenxu, you don’t know about it yet?” a junior brother asked in surprise.

A junior sister interjected, “Senior brother Shenxu was unconscious all this time. How could he know?”

“What happened? I remember I fell into Wang Ke’s trap! I swear I will get my revenge!” Zhang Shenxu said, filled with hatred.

“Senior brother Shenxu, how can you accuse him and bite the hand that saved you?” a junior sister retorted.

Zhang Shenxu was stunned, “Uhh? What did you say?”

“Yeah! Yeah! It took Wang Ke so much effort to save you! He went through so much hardship just to get you out alive, yet you choose to wrong him!” another junior sister said.

“Yeah, how can you be so ungrateful! You’ll make things difficult for our Eldest apprentice-sister!” a junior brother said.

Another junior sister felt disillusioned and said, “I didn’t expect you to be such a person! I must have been blind in the past!”

Zhang Shenxu’s eyes widened in disbelief. Why?Why are all of you looking at me like this?What did I even do?What kind of person am I?What do you mean ‘blind’?

“What the hell happened?” Zhang Shenxu asked in frustration.

All his juniors chimed in to tell him what happened in the Qing Capital. Of course, they only told him what they thought to be true.

Zhang Shenxu’s cheeks twitched as he listened.

“My sister… likes Wang Ke? Nonsense! She only wants to knock his lights out and take his money!” Zhang Shenxu raged.

But a sister reasoned with him anxiously, “Senior brother Shenxu, you were unconscious at the time; please do not speak out of ignorance. We saw it with our own eyes. It is true, and she even met Wang Ke in secret behind the partition last time. Oh no! I promised her to keep it a secret! You didn’t hear anything! You heard nothing…!”

“Nonsense! All of you are nuts! My sister would never like Wang Ke! She already has a marriage betrothal! Sect Lord, you know that, right?” Zhang Shenxu looked at the Golden Crow Sect Lord in anger.

The Sect Lord nodded, “Yes, I do!”

“Sect Lord, Wang Ke is a real scum! My sister would never develop feelings for him!” Zhang Shenxu tried to convince the Sect Lord anxiously.

One of the junior sisters wasn’t buying his claims. “Senior brother Shenxu, if you don’t believe us, why not ask your sister yourself?”

The Sect Lord shook his head and said, “Whatever it is, stay calm! Zhang Shenxu, isn't it better if the situation is like you said?”

“Better?” Zhang Shenxu was stunned.

“Yeah. Do you know what your sister’s fire cultivation technique is? Do you remember why she came to the Ten-thousand Great Mountains?” the Sect Lord asked.

Who would ever dare to cross her if she stays by your father’s side? That’s why she came to this foreign place. Alas, as time passed and her cultivation grew, she has had less and less encounters that could infuriate her. Her complications with Wang Ke could be considered a serendipitous chance!”

“Serendipitous?” Zhang Shenxu couldn’t yet wrap his mind around it.

“Sect Lord, what technique is our Eldest apprentice-sister cultivating? She needs someone to make her angry? Anger helps her break through faster?” The juniors were amazed.

After a few rounds of Mahjong—Wang Ke had already gathered a lot of information from his casual probing. After that, he left the appointed Mahjong room with satisfaction.

But, just when he left the room—Little cousin-sister went running toward him.

“Clan Lord, bad news!” she said urgently.

“Bad news? Zhang Li'er woke up? Awesome! Tell her I already left the capital. Ask her to leave at her earliest convenience, as waiting for me to come back would be useless!” Wang Ke said happily.

“No, no! Zhang Li'er’s body... is growing feathers! So many of them!” Little cousin-sister clarified anxiously.

Wang Ke’s face froze. What did you say?Feathers?Little cousin-sister, how were you taking care of her? What did you do that made her grow feathers?
