Infection: Dying Days

Chapter 45 - Danger (2)

(David's POV)

A few seconds after watching Desmond leave.

"...We need to go."

I, with a slight reluctance, turned towards Sara and everyone else and said calmly. Although, I wanted to chase after him, I know it wouldn't be wise to do so.

Because right now, I'm acting as the leader of these people. So if I was to arbitrary run after him, I'm pretty sure the others would follow me. And that's not something I want nor does Desmond.

The less people that follow him, the safer it'll be for both him and the girl.

"Are we really not going after them? It's dangerous!"

Staring at the direction where Desmond and that ran off to, Sara said worried. She really wanted to run after them too. Which reasonably speaking, wouldn't be a bad idea.

After all, Sara is the ace runner of the track team, so if I was to allow her to chase Desmond, I'm certain she could catch up to him. But despite that advantage, I won't choose nor allow her to do that.

As for why? It's simple, she's my girlfriend. And because she's my girlfriend, I'll never ever willingly place her into danger. I'll go to hell before any of that sh*t happens.

Not to mention, what would Desmond do if he found out I sent her after him? Easy. He'll come back and beat my ass! Although, there's a somewhat faint tension between him and us, I know without a doubt that Desmond loves Sara. Familial or otherwise.

Therefore, while keeping these two things in mind, I shake my head and say to her.

"Believe me, I want to go too. Sigh, the only thing we can do right is pray that they're safe"

"But what if…"

"Hey, look at it like this, by the time we reach the buses they would've already up to us."

"...I hope so."

Despite feeling a little skeptical because of my words, Sara still accepted them and placed her nervousness to the side for the moment.

After seeing her calm down. I place my attention on the people around me. By now, due to the commotion, everyone is gathered here. All of them had pale faces as they stared at the covered up bodies.

"Guys you'll be better if you don't stare at them. Let's continue, we're almost there."

After giving everyone, including myself some encouragement, I focused my gaze forward and started walking.

It was also at that moment, I should've noticed something was wrong. I should've realized that out of everyone here, there were three people missing.

Three people who hate Desmond to their bones.

========

"Hey! Wait a minute! Slow down!"

"Get away from me!"

"How in the hell are you so fast?"

"Just leave me alone! I want to see Trina again! Don't stop me!"

"I would if you were in your right mind!"

Currently, with me trying my best to catch her, Faith and I speed down the halls. I could've caught up to her sooner but every time I'd get within arms reach of her, she would cut corners and run the other way.

Which is starting to piss me off!

Because when she does that...

SLAM!

"F*ck!"

The momentum I gained from running propels me into the lockers and walls. Although, it's not every time, it's seriously annoying.

Sigh, it's a good thing I have good ankles, otherwise I'd be crawling on the floor injured.

"Just wait till I catch her. I'mma give her a piece of my mi..nd."

Running past the corner, I mumbled to myself before trailing off. Because standing not too far away from me was...

AAAH!

"A horde?!"

Let me rephrase that. It wasn't just a horde, it was a huge horde! There were so many infected that they blocked the entire hallway, they were coming from within the cafeteria.

This is also probably why I didn't see any infected roaming the halls, they were all here.

...Wait? cafeteria?

Whipping my head so fast that I almost caught whiplash, I looked at the sign hanging over the two large security steel doors near me.

It read in bold, capital letters.

CAFETERIA.

We need to leave now! Wait, where's Faith?

I momentarily forgot about her due to the sudden appearance of the horde.

"Fai~th. Fai~th. Where are you?"

Knowing now's not the best time to be shouting, I cuffed my hands around my mouth and whispered.

It didn't take long for me to find her. As a matter of fact, I found her instantly.

She was in the cafeteria, walking unsteadily towards the horde of infected. In her hand was a shard of glass. Without showing much expression on her face, she brings the shard of glass to her arm and cuts it.

"Aaah!"

As the blood drips from her arm to the floor, numerous infected are attracted her way.

"She's f*cking suicidal!"

Cursing at her stupid a.s.s action, I gathered my courage and ran towards the cafeteria full speed.

She'd gotten in through a broken window that was a few feet down from where the horde was located. The window was completely shattered and had jagged pieces of glass around the edges of it.

"Hmph!"

Therefore, not wanting to risk getting cut, I, with a nice amount of speed, cleared it and continued running.

At this moment, three infected were closing in on her.

"OVER HERE!"

"Aaah!"

Wanting to grab the infecteds' attention, I shouted. And as I did so, I fixed the grip on my bat. When I got close enough to one of the three infected.

WHAM!

I hit its face, causing it to stumble back a few feet. After that, I went for the second and third ones.

WHAM!

WHAM!

And just like the first one, they were knocked back a few feet.

AAAH!

By now, the majority of the infected in and out of the cafeteria were coming towards us. There's no way I can fight this many.

"We're really in some really deep sh*t now! Hey, Give me that! You caused enough problems already with this thing."

Before Faith could do any more harm to herself, I snatched the glass shard from her hand and threw far away from her. This dangerous situation could've been easily avoided, if she hadn't cut herself.

"Where to go! Where to go!"

Feeling anxious, I repeated to myself over and over again.

Sigh, why am I even saving her? Since she's wanting to die so much, maybe I should just let her do it? It'll save me the trouble.

"Follow me."

But despite me thinking of such things like this, my physical actions said otherwise.

Gripping the completely silent Faith's by the hand I pull her towards the staff area of the cafeteria. After entering, I block off the area using a stainless steel table and chair.

Although, it won't hold for long, at least it'll give me a breather.

"Now as for you…"

"Why did you save me?"

Faith's asked sadly with her head down. Deep within it however, I noticed a faint sense of anger.

Look up at me with her dull looking brown eyes, Faith continued.

"Why did you have to get in my way? If you wasn't here then everything would-"

SL.A.P!

Not able to listen to anymore of her nonsense. I delivered a nice strong slap to her face in order to give her a reality check..
