Infection: Dying Days

Chapter 48 - Danger (4)

"Stay close to me!"

While my mind is going a million miles a minute, trying to think of a way out of this situation, I urge Faith to stick close to me. I don't want her getting bit. Otherwise, all my efforts would've been for naught.

AHH!

"Ah! f*ck! What to do? What to do?"

I nervously say to myself as the encirclement of infected closes in on us. Come on! There's got to be some way out of this! Come on, think!

"Ahh!"

An infected lunges at me…it was a lunch lady.

"Hmph!"

But before she could grab me, I redirected her towards another group of infected, causing her to fall and slide across the floor. This is the only thing I could do for now since I don't have anything to hit them with. I can't use my b.a.r.e fists, my fingers might get bit.

Where are the knives when you need them?

"Desmond, look! Over there!"

Lamenting that I couldn't use any knives, Faith shouted and pointed. Following her finger, I saw what appears to be an old serving window. It was boarded up with plywood and painted white just like the walls. There was a stainless steel table placed in front of it, it had uncleaned pots and pans placed on top of it. They were probably used for this morning's breakfast.

If I remember correctly, that serving window was used before the remodeling of the kitchen 15 years ago. The school, having received a huge donation from a parent concerned about their child's quality of eating, decided to do a full makeover of the whole cafeteria. They bought state of the art kitchen equipment and remodeled the kitchen to fit it all in. They hired an expert chef to cook and even made a menu just for his dishes. Talk about lavish!

However, this was all just for the rich kids who treat money like loose leaf paper. For poor students like me who attended this school on a scholarship, we still had to eat that slop the lunch ladies served us.

Every time I ate here, I was reminded of the time I spent in juvie.

"If we can break through that, we might be able to get out of this."

'Don't put the cart before the horse' is what I wanted to say to her but I didn't bother to. Because right now, three of our four directions have too many infected covering them, if we were to rush through them at this moment, we would be overrun and eaten.

The only place that looks thin enough to potentially break through would be the one heading towards the service window.

Now as for how we can get over there...I got it!

Looking around my immediate area as fast as I can, I spot the thing I needed the most right now.

A serving cart!

It was about six feet long and made out of steel. It was made specially for buffets. If we can use that as a battering ram, we might just be able to break through!

Kicking away two infected lunch ladies that were near the cart, I grabbed it and dragged it towards me. At this moment…

"Desmond, help!"

Faith called my name.

While still paying attention to my surroundings, I looked in her direction.

She somehow managed to grab herself a pot and was using it to hold back an infected that was trying to bite her!

Turning the cart around as fast as I could, I pointed it towards the infected trying to bite Faith and ran full speed towards him...

"Ahh!"

BAM!

And with a heavy impact, I hit the infected. The force of the cart hitting his side made him fly sideways and onto the kitchen floor.

Looking at Faith who let out a sigh of relief, I said to her in a hurried voice. The infected were getting to close for comfort!

"Faith! Hope on!"

"Huh? What are you gonna use that for?"

"What do you think? Now hop on! We don't have time for this!"

"Okay!"

Having an inkling of what I was going to do next, Faith didn't ask anymore questions and hopped on top of the serving cart.

"Make sure you jump off as soon as we hit them. I don't want all my efforts trying to save your a.s.s go down the drain with you getting snagged by an infected."

I cautioned Faith, as I realigned the service cart towards the direction of the service window.

"Got it. I won't do such a thing like this ever again."

"I hope so, 'cause I ain't doin this sh*t again. Also, once you jump over, head straight for the service window and break it. It should lead back into the hallway.

"Alright, but, what about you?"

Faith said worryingly. In response to this, i said with a perverted smile.

"What about me? I'll be right behind you, I'm not dying here. There's so much stuff in my life I haven't got to see yet! For example, I haven't seen Big Sis' in a bathing suit! I wanna see that bodacious body in all it's glory with my own eyes! So until I see that, I don't plan on dying anytime soon!"

"...I shouldn't have asked."

Faith said a little disgusted but I didn't care.

"It's one of the many things on my bucket list...You ready?"

"Mn."

At Faith's nod, I look dead ahead at the horde of infected. Seeing the flesh hungry faces of the ugly lunch ladies, I couldn't help but sweat in both anxiety and fear.

….

Ah, F*ck it! It's time to nut up or shut up!

Adopting the mindset of 'Do or Dies' I push the cart as hard as I can towards the horde.

8 feet...

AHH!

5 feet…

AHH!

2 feet…

BAM!

We connect with the infected.

"Hmph!"

Using all the strength I could muster, I push the cart hard enough to run over an infected. And while doing that, I simultaneously lift the back of the cart up, raising it to a 45 degree angle.

"Jump!"

I shouted at Faith. And within the span of a few moments, I felt the service cart become considerably lighter. Although, I couldn't see her, I knew she jumped.

"Kyaa!"

With a short scream, Faith landed on the other side.

Now that she's safe, it's time to worry about me, who's perpetually surrounded by infected.

This would be a perfect time for some Juggernogg.

Feeling the adrenaline coursing within me, I kicked away the closest infected near me and sent him into the encroaching horde, causing a few of them to fall. This gave me enough time to put my shoulder against the already standing service cart.

I pushed.

But sadly, I couldn't budge it, the resistance is hard.

Is this where I'm going to die?

Bullsh*t!

"I'm not dying here! Ah!"

Releasing a guttural roar, I put more strength into my arms and legs and pushed even harder. So hard that the steel on the service cart became slightly indented.

And by the grace of God, I felt the resistance lessening, taking this chance, I pushed forward and with a loud clang, the service cart fell to the ground.

I was on the other side of the horde.

"Desmond! Hurry!"

Not even having a chance to feel happy about not dying, Faith called out my name. She was already on the other side of the service window. She managed to break apart some of the plywood, leaving a hole.

Not wasting any time, I ran towards the table, hopped on top of it and put my head and shoulders through the hole.

But there was a problem…

"I can't fit!"
