Chapter 23

Living in a detached house is a dream come true.

About two years ago, Mi-ja Kim, a housewife, bought a two-story detached house on the outskirts of the new city through her auction and moved in.

She only liked it for a while.

As time passed, there were a couple of things that made me uncomfortable.

Her husband complained that commuting was difficult, and her children complained that school was far away. The building, which had been built for 20 years, slowly started to deteriorate, and there were only one or two places where it could be repaired. A major repair was required, but the cost was too high, so only temporary measures were taken.

New apartments were constantly being built in the new city.

She wondered if she should sell her house and move into an apartment. Mi-ja Kim stopped by a real estate agency she was close with and asked her about the price of her house.

The current market price is about 6 billion. However, unlike apartments, houses were difficult to sell at market prices. The real estate lady said she would have to cut the price down to the mid-500m range to sell, given the need for repairs here and there.

While she was still thinking, one day she got a call from a real estate agent.

She said [a young man came to see a house nearby. I looked around her, and I guess she liked In-ho’s mother’s house. Is she ever going to sell the house?]

Her ears perked up at those words.

It was not that she didn’t want to sell if she only gave it to the market price.

She said, “How much did you think it was?”

She [she doesn’t seem to know the market price around here, so she talked to 800 million, and she said she would buy it.]

Kim Mi-ja was surprised at that.

That is, she gives a whopping 200 million more than the market price. She said that the money was enough for her to move into a large flat in a top-of-the-line apartment complex.

She originally wanted to sell her, but she changed her mind when someone showed up to buy her at a good price.

Could she possibly be hiding in this house worthy of what she doesn’t know about herself?

But no matter how much I thought about it, there was no reason why this house was more expensive than the market price. It was far from the subway station and the traffic was not very good.

With that money, she would be able to buy a better house near the station.

“Come on, wait a minute. I’ll think about it some more.”

Mi-ja Kim consulted with her husband, who returned from her work. Her husband heard her talk and told her to sell right away, but she had a different idea.

‘There must be a good reason for the high price.’

Mi-ja Kim called her real estate agent and she said:

“Please tell me that you don’t want to sell for 800 million won, but you will sell for 1 billion won.

She sang as loudly as she could, then saw the situation and thought of cutting it off.

The next day, she got a call from the real estate agent again. But her real estate lady’s words were unexpected.

[What about this? She says he’s going to make a contract with her Hyojung’s mom. In fact, she said that that day, she went to see Hyo-jung’s mother, yes, her house.]

“Yes? Uh, how much?”

[76 million.]

Of course, Hyojung’s mother’s house is 10 pyeong bigger and the house is better. Still, 7.6 billion is an absurd amount.

For a moment, sparks seemed to come out of her eyes.

‘Is this lady intercepting her guest?’

It felt like money was thrown right in front of her. Considering the actual sale price, 200 million was no different.

Kicking the rolled fortune with your own feet!

When the buyer said that she would not buy it, Mi-ja Kim’s heart became urgent.

“Are you still under contract? Then tell him that I will sell it for 760 million.”

[By the way, it seems that he has already turned his heart to Hyojung’s mom, yes, her house. I don’t know if she’ll ever change her mind again.]

“Please tell me. I’ll take care of the expenses. Please, please.”

[I see. Let’s talk first.]

Time went by impatiently.

A few days later, I got a call from the real estate agent.

[I persuaded you well and decided to sign a contract with Inho’s mother.]

Kim Mi-ja said happily.

“Thank you. You suffered.”

[Why don’t you get her down payment before you change her mind? Usually I get 10%, but I might change my mind after knowing the market price, so keep it at 30%.]

“I will do that. I will send you the account number now.”

As soon as she sent her account number, her down payment of 228 million won was deposited. It was as if the sale contract had been completed.

Her real estate aunt said to Kim Mi-ja, who was happy and relieved.

[Then I will come to the real estate tomorrow and officially write a contract… Ah! As In-ho’s mother knows, it’s Christmas in four days.]

“Yes.”

[It must be hard, but can you empty her house by then?]

Mi-Ja Kim became ridiculous.

“No, she hasn’t even found a house to move into yet, so does it make sense that she should be out in four days?”

[Is that so? If you leave the house until then, she said that she would pay 20 million won for moving expenses.]

“What, what? Two million won?”

[I’ll tell you no.]

At the words of her real estate aunt, she was furious.

“What’s wrong? Please tell me that the move will be finished by the day after tomorrow!”

* * *

Jingle Bells! Jingle Bells!

Carols resounded everywhere, and trees and decorations entered. Although it was a recession, the shopping district was enjoying Christmas and New Year’s specials.

The lovers poured into the street with their arms crossed.

“·················ogue.”

Well, that has nothing to do with me.

Since when did Christmas become lovers’ day?

I went home.

“Are you ready?”

My mother was ready to go out. She took out a two-piece suit and coat, which she rarely wore, and put on makeup.

“You are beautiful today. Fit well.”

“What is pretty?”

Her mother gave her a pint glass and said:

“I can just eat at home, what kind of eating out?”

“You have to eat out on a day like today. Come on.”

I went down with her mother.

On the first floor, Taek-gyu’s car was waiting.

“Taek-gyu is also here.”

Taegyu said.

“Come on, Mother.”

I got into the back seat with my mother. It’s a small car, so it’s a bit narrow, but it’s good enough to ride.

Taek-gyu started the car.

The car quickly left Seoul as the road was not yet closed.

“Where are you going?”

“I look forward to going to a good place.”

The car drove down the straight road.

Jiying!

The phone in my pocket vibrated. Few people know this phone number. Looking at the name on the screen, it was Shin Yuri.

I was contemplating whether to answer or not, and then I pressed the call button.

“Hello.”

Afraid to receive it, Yuri’s voice was heard.

[Jinhoo senior! Why can’t I contact you like this? I kept calling.]

“Did you keep calling?”

I didn’t pay much attention to my cell phone, so I didn’t check my missed calls properly.

But why did you keep calling the senior who only saw your face twice? After all, today is Christmas.

This is only if I don’t have a heart…

“Yuri, are you…?”

Before she could finish speaking, Yuri said urgently.

[What happened, senpai?]

“Huh? What’s going on?”

[I mean L6.]

“Ah! did you buy it too Did you get a refund?”

[It’s not that important… How did you know in advance that the L6 was going to be discontinued?]

“What do you mean? How do I know that?”

[My senior told me when I bought a cell phone and left the store. It will be discontinued.]

“·················ogue.”

did i say that Thinking about it, I guess it was.

That’s why you kept calling. Should I stop drinking kimchi soup?

I just wandered around

“Hey, it was just a joke.”

Yuri’s reaction was absurd.

[Now, are you kidding me?]

“Huh. Didn’t I say it was a joke back then?”

[Ha, but…]

The more you ask, the harder it is to make excuses.

“Where am I going now? I’ll call you later. Merry Christmas.”

[Stand, senior!]

I hung up the phone quickly.

I guess I only said one word, did you not notice something?

her mother asked.

“who is this?”

“Ah! I’m just a junior in school.”

I checked the texts and chats that came in the meantime. Most of them were spam. While I was erasing useless things, a text message from Sangyeop senior caught my eye.

[I left a text message because I couldn’t call. If you see it, please contact me.]

Sangyeop senior must have also been shocked to hear the news of the discontinuance of L6.

I decided to call back later and put the phone back in my pocket. After driving for about an hour, a familiar neighborhood appeared.

Again, my mother noticed right away.

“here is······?”

“Now we are almost there.”

The car stopped at a residential area on the outskirts of Dongtan.

I got out of the car with my mother. In front of us stood an old two-story detached house.

The mother looked at the old house without a word. You are probably recalling your memories here.

I have lived here for over 20 years.

After a while, the mother smiled and said.

“It’s nice to be here though. Reminds me of old times Well done, let’s go back.”

“You’ve come all the way here, let’s go inside.”

“Huh?”(Read more @ wuxiax.com)

I took my mother, who was bewildered, and proudly opened the door and went inside.

The house was clean and vacant.

A few things have changed, such as wallpaper and living room lighting, but the house is almost the same as it used to be. I swept the old posts and stairs by hand.

Mother looked around the house slowly.

“Looks like you moved,” she said. But is it okay to enter someone else’s house like this without permission?”

“Why is this someone else’s house? It is our home.”

It just fell into someone else’s hands for a while.

I handed the papers to her mother.

“Take a look.”

“What is this?”

My mother opened the papers.

It was a real estate contract. Her name was on her mother.

“This house is now ours.”

If I had enough time, I could have bought it a little cheaper, but it was a bit overkill as I was trying to fit it in for Christmas.

Still, I didn’t think it was worth it.

She looked like she couldn’t believe her mother.

“Hey, how the hell did this happen?”

“In the meantime, I made money with Taek-gyu, so I bought it.”

At my words, my mother looked at Taek-gyu. Then the boy nodded his head.

“Jinhu is right. We made a lot of money.”

“·················ogue.”

Mother stood silent for a while. She then sat down and she cried.

Ever since her father passed away, she is a mother, no matter how difficult it was, she never showed it. She hadn’t seen a single tear in front of me.

I would be lying if she said it wasn’t hard and sad. I just clenched my teeth, endured, and endured.

“Heh heh heh!”

Seeing my mother cry makes me cry too.

I forcefully smiled and said.

“Why are you crying on this good day? Do not cry.”

As she was trying to appease her crying mother, another cry was heard next to her.

When I turned her head, I saw Taek-gyu crying from one side.

“Wow! Uh huh!”

I was dumbfounded and asked.

“Hey, why are you crying?”

“Uh-huh! Jinhoo!”

Rather than stop crying, Taek-gyu embraced me and started crying loudly.

“Stop crying, nigga!”

This makes me want to cry too!
