Chapter 1 Elevator Encounter (1)

Five thirty was exactly the time when people flocked to the cafeteria and boiler room from the classroom and library. Sang Wuyan had eaten early and was on the way to self-study. Ten minutes later, she heard the campus radio start on time.

After that familiar melody was over, Xu Qian’s voice came out: “Good afternoon, I’m Xiaoqian, and it’s the pop music time every Wednesday. First is the new song recommendation, and then our ranking for last week’s ranking…”

The school’s broadcasting room had always been done in a vivid and colorful way, much richer than the program when Sang Wuyan entered the school. It was a pity that she hadn’t been in the broadcasting room for a long time.

She waited for Cheng Yin for a few minutes in the small garden under the Fourth Classroom, and saw her coming with a smile.

“What’s wrong? You have a silly look.” Cheng Yin asked.

“I’m infatuated with Xu Qian’s voice.”

“I think you are infatuated in your own vinegar jar.”

“No!” Sang Wuyan denied it.

“You still deny it, you…” Cheng Yin was suddenly interrupted by Sang Wuyan in the middle of her speech.

“Hush—” She made a silent gesture, tilted her head and tilted her ears. She hasn’t moved for a while.

Cheng Yin really calmed down, and then asked softly, “What’s wrong?”

Sang Wuyan said, “Listen to this song.”

A song was playing on the radio, and the male singer sang in a low voice, it seemed to mix into people’s hearts.

I lost my way in the grassland,

The wind blew the grass low,

Someone once sang that the sky is like a yurt…

In the evening, Sang Wuyan chatted with Cheng Yin.

“What kind of song is it? It’s so nice.”

“Sounds like a newcomer.”

“I really want to know.” Sang Wuyan sighed.

“Just call Xu Qian and ask her.” This was the first idea that Cheng Yin came up with.

“I won’t go even if you beat me to death.”

“Go and search on the Internet, I guess you can find it.” This was the second idea that Cheng Yin came up with.

“I don’t know how to search for song titles?” Sang Wuyan was a well-known “Dianbai” (computer idiot).

Uh-” The two looked at each other, “I don’t know either. “Cheng Yin was also a “Dianbai.”

    “……”

It seemed that women cannot rely on women.

Sang Wuyan and her best friend Cheng Yin moved out of the school to rent together since they entered school this year. She was almost graduating, and the school was not strictly controlled. In addition, she was now working part-time in a radio station in City A, so she was afraid that sometimes she would have to come home late, and it would be inconvenient to return to the dormitory.

Early the next morning, Sang Wuyan hummed and sang yesterday’s song while brushing her teeth. Suddenly she thought of something, spit out toothpaste foam, raised her head and asked: “Cheng Yin, why don’t I hum the song to school and ask them?”

“Why are you still thinking about this?”

“Of course. I work in a radio station and have occupation sensitivity.”

“Occupation sensitivity?” Cheng Yin laughed. “You’re a tone deaf uncouth fellow, and any song will be ruined in your mouth.”

“Cheng Yin!” Sang Wuyan was angry.

On Friday afternoon, Sang Wuyan had no class so she went to the radio station. In the evening was the broadcast time of Nie Xi, the pillar of the radio station. Initially, when Sang Wuyan entered the radio station, she did odd jobs.  Not long ago, Nie Xi’s assistant had just resigned, and there was no suitable candidate. Fortunately, the director felt that Sang Wuyan was smart, so he asked her to temporarily replace Nie Xi’s assistant.

Although Nie Xi was quite well-known in the city, she was a nice person who did everything by herself and was kind to others. Wu Yan called her “Sister Xi” along with the juniors in the station.

Sang Wuyan carried a large number of letters upstairs from the uncle guarding the door on the first floor, all of which were given to Nie Xi by the audience. She opened up one by one for Nie Xi, she replied to those that needed to be replied, and conveyed those that needed to be conveyed. However, almost every time Sang Wuyan could see something that made her laugh

Every time she read it to other people in the station, they would surely laugh.

Nie Xi always shook her head: “Wuyan, you are such an amusing person.”

After Sang Wuyan finished sorting out a lot of things, she went to the cafeteria to have dinner and returned. Nie Xi had already arrived at the work room in advance to make preparations.

“Sister Xi, you came so early?”

Nie Xi blinked at her, turned down the music and said, “I want to use a few new songs, and I want to try the effect.”

“Oh.” Sang Wuyan made a “you be busy with your own things” look, and prepared to go next door.

After turning around, Sang Wuyan heard Nie Xi change the song, and the melody of the prelude was somewhat familiar. Suddenly, her mind flashed, and it turned out to be the song yesterday, the song she was looking for.

She hurriedly turned around and asked loudly, “Sister Xi, what song is this?”

Nie Xi was writing intently, and the music was ringing, and she didn’t hear what Wuyan asked.

“Sister Xi, what is the name of the song you played?” Sang Wuyan asked again.

“You mean this one now?” Nie Xi said, “It’s called “Libyan Shell”.”

“It’s so nice.” Sang Wuyan sighed.

“Not bad. Although it’s a new song by a newcomer, I think it will sell well.”

“It’s really good, I’m fascinated when I hear it.”

When Nie Xi saw her appearance, she couldn’t help laughing: “Wuyan, I have a spare disc here. If you want, I can let you listen to it.”

Sang Wuyan nodded like garlic.

As soon as she got home from work, she turned the song disc out of her handbag and put it into the CD player. That song was the title song of the same name for the entire album and was ranked first.

She listened wholeheartedly several times before remembering to find the lyrics attached to the CD.

The cover of the booklet was the handsome newcomer, positive young men was the trend now. His handsome profile was reflected in the dim light.

Sang Wuyan turned to the first page and saw a landscape painting instead of a portrait of the boy. The painting was really beautiful. The expanse of the desert was illuminated golden by the setting sun that almost fell on the horizon. There were a few stars near the sun with its dazzling light, and a shell was nearby. In the afterglow of the sun, it seemed to be dyed with a layer of brilliance.

On this side of the illustration were the lyrics of the song “Libyan Shells”.

I lost my way in the grassland,

The wind blew the grass low,

Someone once sang that the sky was like a yurt.

Oh the sky, oh the sky,

Big Dipper please show me the way.

I got lost in the desert,

Endless yellow sand,

The ancients once called it an uneven ocean.

Oh the ocean, oh the ocean,

Do you roast me dry?

And I lost my way in your heart,

My lover,

Will you sound your Libyan shells for me

And be my bugle horn?

I got lost in the city,

Thousands of pavilions,

Lover, please tell me where my home is.

Oh my home, oh my home,

Parted the Red Sea and bypassed Libya.

Smoked a bag of shredded tobacco for water pipes,

Wore a turban,

Black pupils,

Talked about passion,

My Libyan shells,

The stars fell.

The lyrics were not cryptic at all, but some of the classical tastes were a little different from the popular Chinese style songs now, and it had some characteristics of Arabic music. With such tunes and lyrics, it seemed that there was an Arab prince in the desert playing the piano and singing for the beloved woman.

Sang Wuyan inadvertently saw the following production, and at the top of the line were four short words:

Lyrics and Music: Yijin.
    (2)

Sang Wuyan always felt familiar with the word “Yijin”, but she couldn’t remember where she had seen it before. SHe didn’t think much about it, and went to sleep.

It was a pity that Sang Wuyan was woken up by the rooster raised on the balcony by the old lady on the third floor. She had been tormented for many days, but she didn’t know when the old lady was going to stew the chicken.

Sang Wuyan covered her head and continued to sleep, but it was a pity that the chicken was as if it was on a stimulant and sang at the top of its voice. Then, the phone rang.

Sang Wuyan saw that the caller ID was Wei Hao’s name, and her heartbeat suddenly accelerated, but she didn’t even know whether to answer it or not.

She didn’t dare to pinch, the ringtone kept ringing like this, and it took a long time to calm down.

Before she could breathe a sigh of relief, the phone rang again—it was Wei Hao.

“This person is really too much, doesn’t he know that people are still asleep this early in the morning?” Cheng Yin said.

“Yes.” She frowned.

“Answer it, he won’t eat you.”

“Why!” Sang Wuyan said nervously and put the phone under the quilt to reduce the noise.

The phone went off again, and then rang again.

Sang Wuyan simply put a pillow on it to cover the phone, and it took a long time before the ringing stopped.

However, a good morning where she had no class and she could sleep in was already ruined.

Sang Wuyan got up in despair, put on clothes, spent a while in the house, and then decided to go out to Xiaoxi Street alone to eat her coveted steamed dumplings.

In this early morning, except for the high school students who rushed to study early, there were almost no people on the street, and most shops had not yet opened.

The sprinkler truck sang a song and moved slowly on the road.

Sang Wuyan took a deep breath as she walked on the road, and suddenly felt in a good mood. She used to wake up early either to rush to the radio station or to go to school. She hasn’t experienced this kind of leisurely feeling for a long time.

So, she walked out of the steamed bun shop after overeating and turned into the park.

The park was much more lively, there were people doing exercises and jogging.

There was a chubby child by the lake who actually followed a group of elderly people to learn Tai Chi in a decent way. She was delighted to see the child’s dumb and cute look, and simply sat down in a chair on the side of the road.

Maybe today will have good weather. Although it was only the end of September, the heat had already gone, so she sat on an open-air chair, and the breeze was refreshing, and she even felt a little cold.

The sky in the distance gradually became clear, and the early morning sun began to gradually penetrate the clouds.

A young man sat on the chair next to her. When Sang Wuyan came just now, the man was already there, and faced the lake by himself, and closed his eyes quietly. He probably gave a good impression towards others, so she couldn’t help but secretly glance at his profile.

His lip color was very light, a pair of thin lips were tightly pressed, and his expressionless expression looked a little indifferent.

Because he closed his eyes, Sang Wuyan had the courage to stare at him again. She has had good eyesight since she was a child, and even if she was a few meters away, she could see that his eyelashes were dark and thick, overlapping up and down like a small fan.

However, it was precisely because he closed his eyes that she couldn’t see the total sense of the five senses.

Sang Wuyan had always believed that eyes are the window to the soul, and that a pair of nice eyes was a necessary condition for beauty. Therefore, in the evaluation of the four words “extremely handsome”, she temporarily put the two words “extremely” away, and she’ll decide after looking at the whole.

There were several old men and women hanging around nearby. Some people simply yelled at the lake, it was said that this could roar the exhaust gas in the chest cavity, appetite and invigorate the spleen and prolong life.

Sang Wuyan wanted to hum as soon as her mood improved, so she followed them, stood up and faced the “sea” with his hands on her hips, and sang loudly.

“Three circles on the left, three circles on the right, twisting buttocks, twisting necks, going to bed early and getting up early, let’s do exercises, shaking hands and feet, taking deep breaths frequently, and I won’t be old if I learn to jump around like my grandpa…”

A loud voice came out. There was a “grandfather” doing morning exercises next to her, so he was embarrassed to continue twisting his waist and butt, and slowly stopped.

Uh—it seemed a little childish.

She thought about it, and then changed her song.

“The five-star red flag is fluttering in the wind, the singing is like a bell , sing our dear motherland from now on, dong dong dong ……”

As soon as the song “To Sing for the Motherland” came out, an aunt who was jogging backwards was so surprised by her that she staggered and almost fell.

But thankfully, the good-looking man just turned his ear to the side when she opened her mouth to sing the first sentence, and stayed calm the rest of the time.

Sang Wuyan never remembered the lyrics when she sang. Whenever she didn’t know the lyrics, she would hum it over, or simply fill in a few incongruous sentences.

Obviously, the “dongdong” and “dangdang” behind the five-star red flag were alternative pronunciations for unknown lyrics.

And every time she went to sing karaoke, if she picked up the microphone and opened her mouth to sing just three sentences, she would be beaten off by the crowd.

Cheng Yin often shook her head and sighed: “We all can’t figure it out. Anyhow, as an announcer who hasn’t broadcast on a certain radio station, how come you sing so tragically?”

Forget it.

Sang Wuyan closed her mouth and shook her head.

There were many elderly people here, so she shouldn’t sing these nostalgic golden songs, if not people would say she tarnished the glorious image of the great motherland.

Sang Wuyan was silent in her heart, and prepared to sing a song that could be enjoyed by scholars and lay-people.

At this moment, she suddenly remembered a song by Xu Guanguo, who she admired very much, “Slightly Blue Dawn”, which was quite famous and suitable for the current situation. So, she brewed the lyrics in her mind, and opened her mouth to sing again:

The slight morning breeze blew

Sent her hair fragrance

Let me catch in the morning breeze

Her smell

Before dawn

While she doesn’t know the secret

I’m under the blue sky

 ……

Because she liked it, she had sung this song countless times at home, and she still remembered some lyrics.

Hmm—Sang Wuyan was satisfied with herself.

This time there were obviously not as many people who staggered compared to the last time, there was an improvement.

However, the man on the side turned his head because of Sang Wuyan’s singing this time, and his originally relaxed expression suddenly became strange.

While turning his head, he slowly opened his eyes. When those eyes gradually appeared, Sang Wuyan suddenly forgot to breathe.

He had very beautiful eyes.

Under the thick eyelashes, his eyes were as deep as lacquer.

Later Wuyan asked him: “Do you know what I thought of when I saw your eyes for the first time?”

He was puzzled.

She laughed: “Like a black glass bead dipped in water.”

In fact, rather than saying the man’s expression at this time was strange, it was more straightforward to say that he was extremely unhappy.

Sang Wuyan wondered. She sang Xu Guanguo’s song. What was he upset about? Was he a crazy fan of Xu Guanguo? At this moment, Sang Wuyan’s little head couldn’t help but burst into the hot news of many fans enthusiastically chasing stars.

So, before the person’s skinning eyes fell on her, Sang Wuyan stopped her voice in time, and then picked up her handbag and left.
    (3)

Sang Wuyan went back to the school dormitory at noon to pick up things, and happened to meet Li Lulu, from the upper bunk, coming back from the bathhouse with a washbasin.

“I was wondering who it was, it turned out to be Miss Sang,” Li Lulu said, “Why? Are you back for inspection?”

Li Lulu loved to fool Sang Wuyan, but she was not a bad person.

“I came back to get some clothes.”

“By the way, Wei Hao always calls you in the middle of the night. It’s so annoying, can you stop causing trouble for us?”

“Oh.” Sang Wuyan replied while she immersed her head, and sorted out her drawers.

“You…” Li Lulu paused, waved her hand again, “Never mind. I won’t say anything.”

“It’s a waste of your breath.” Sang Wuyan answered.

“Yes. I don’t know how Wei Hao met you. It’s really bad luck for eight lifetimes.”

Sang Wuyan chuckled.

“Let’s eat together on Saturday night, don’t stay in your kennel all day long, come play with everyone.”

“I don’t want to go.” Sang Wuyan drooped her head.

“You must have forgotten it, my birthday that day. If you dare not go, I will kill you.”

Li Lulu uttered harsh words, and this trick was very effective for Sang Wuyan.

When she was eating hot pot that day, she saw that Wei Hao was there, and Sang Wuyan frowned and looked at Li Lulu.

“We’re from the same hometown, I didn’t mean anything else.” Li Lulu said without raising her head.

A total of eight people ate, exactly four women and four men.

Sang Wuyan thought: Oh, just enough to make up two tables of Mahjong.

Everyone was from City B, and Sang Wuyan knew them all.

Wei Hao sat next to Sang Wuyan, with Li Lulu in between. Sang Wuyan didn’t look at him more, he was quite normal, and the whole process was peaceful.

Only halfway through the meal, the dishes were not enough. Li Lulu asked the waiter to take the menu and asked Wei Hao casually, “Handsome man, what else do you need to add?”

Without even thinking about it, Wei Hao blurted out and said, “Add more beef, Wu Yan likes it.”

Sang Wuyan’s chopsticks paused.

When the dishes were served, Li Lulu put all the beef in the pot to cook in one go. However, Sang Wuyan’s chopsticks never took any beef from beginning to end.

After eating, the group of people went to sing again.

Li Lulu and the group of people were crazy. One girl even took off her shoes and sang on the sofa while holding a microphone. Sang Wuyan and Wei Hao sat on the left and right sides of the sofa.

Fellow townsman A said: “Sang Wuyan, sing.”
