In comparison, Thursday and Friday passed without much trouble after Wednesday, when I went home fed up with a shocking confession from Kiryu’s father, specifically saying that he was going to physically break my spirit. I think the first three days were conspicuous and too noisy for me, whose motto is to keep a low profile and not make a fuss.

“I’m really sorry!”

Then came Saturday. Tomomi’s muffled voice came out of the phone and I sighed.

“You’ve been on pace for perfect attendance since elementary school, why would you catch a cold just today?”

‘Uuuh… gehogeho… I haven’t had much practice this week, so I guess my body is a little rusty~?”

“I don’t think I’ll get sick by not working out for a week.”

Today is our long-awaited movie day, though I can’t say I’ve been waiting for it.

Fujita gave me a ticket for this…

“Well, go back to sleep. The tickets were a waste… but it can’t be helped.”

‘Yeah… Hiro, I’m busy starting next week. Since we will miss it today, we probably won’t be able to go anytime soon.”

“Whether you’re busy or not, the circumstances are going to change. I don’t know if I’ll be able to go if I miss it today though.”

“Uu~ sorry.. Geho~”

“It can’t be helped.”

“Make it up to me, will you?”

“Don’t you think that should be my line?”

Seriously.

“But the tickets are too good to waste. That’s right! Why don’t you invite Kiryu-san to go with you?”

“What? Why?”

“Well, because it’s a waste of tickets. Ryoko, Hiro, Kiryu-san, the three of you should go!”

“That’s the worst option, isn’t it?”

I mean, we can’t just waste tickets right? Even if it’s only one, so why don’t I just go with Ryoko or invite Mizuho and then there would be three of us? I’d rather not waste another ticket, and it’s more worth it if I can be at peace.

“No, you can’t. Ryoko was looking forward to it. It would be a pity to cancel the event.”

“Then Ryoko and I will go alone, okay?”

‘You’re an idiot, Hiro. Goho~. First of all, you and Ryoko going alone is not an option! Then I would be jeal– No! I mean, I will feel bad for being left out!”

“You’re not really getting left out, though.”

“You can’t go with Mizuho either!”

“Why?”

“What kind of idiot would allow someone to bring chopsticks up to her mouth and then do an “ahh”?!”

“What are you talking about? Are you an idiot?”

“Anyway, I reject the idea of Mizuho and the three of you going together! Kiryu-san would be a… safer in that regard… goho.”

“Safer?”

“It’s okay! Don’t worry about it Hiro! More importantly, Hora! Kiryu, why don’t you ask her to go with you? You’re going to start living together tomorrow, right? Shouldn’t you be more friendly with her?”

“…”

Well… right. I’m not sure if it’s a good idea though. I mean, it’s not as bad as it was at first, but we’re not really that close – not close enough to live together in a comfortable way.  So rather than spending time alone with her, I would prefer to have Ryoko as a cushion instead. Sorry, Ryoko. Above all, Kiryu said she originally wanted to buy some daily necessities today, so she might or might not be free.

“But, is Ryoko alright with this?”

“I’ll tell Ryoko. If you’re worried, I’ll send you a message later, so why don’t you call me after you see it?”

“Alright, well then~”

Ahh.

“What’s wrong?”

“I…. don’t have Kiryu’s contact info.”

“Huh.. Aren’t you two supposed to be living together starting tomorrow? Why don’t you have her contact information?”

“Well..”

I didn’t have a chance to exchange contacts..

“Ha. Well, that’s okay. I’ll send you Kiryu-san’s phone number when I’m done talking with Ryoko. Then call me.”

“How do you know her contact info?”

“Hm? We had lunch together, you know? Can’t we at least trade?”

“….”

You communicative monster. (T/N: “communicative monster-A person with unusually high communication skills.

“Alright then. I’ll wait for your call.”

“Okay. Anyway… sorry.”

“Don’t worry about it, I’m sure I’ll get better soon.”

With that, I hung up the phone and let out a small sigh. A few minutes later, Tomomi called saying , ‘Ryoko is OK! This is Kiryu-san’s contact number!” I let out a small sigh once again at the message sent to me, and tapped the number.

“Hello?”

“Ah.. It’s me.”

“The phone scammer?”

“No, It’s not.”

“Should I send this number to the police? You will be arrested red-handed for phone scamming.”

“No! It’s me! Higashi-kujo!”

“Fufufu. I was just kidding.”

“Stop it, please.”

Well, the way I started the call wasn’t really the best.

“Wait, how could you have known it was me?”

“I got a call from Suzuki-san just now. She asked me if I could give out my contact information to Higashi Kujo-kun. She’s very firm, Suzuki-san. You’ve made a bit of an impression on me.”

“She is surprisingly firm in that way, isn’t she?”

There are many cases where friends of a friend are not friends, and giving out contact information without permission can lead to unexpected trouble. Being a good communicator means being considerate, even if you don’t have to be. It may be a small thing, but that’s why it’s so important.

‘It’s nice of her to take care of my personal information. Please register my number. Can I register yours?”

‘Yeah, I’m sure we’ll need it.”

“Fufufu… This is my first time registering a cell phone number of a guy my age.”

“….”

I wonder… Normally, I would have been moved by such a comment from a girl as beautiful as Kiryu, but I felt more pity than happiness. Kiryu is a girl who doesn’t have any friends. Tomomi must be the first person to register her cell phone number.

“I hope you’re not thinking of something rude.”

“Not at all.”

Risky. I may have leaked out my thoughts unconsciously.

“So? I haven’t heard anything from Mr. Suzuki, so what do you want? Is it an invitation for a date?”

Kiryu laughs a little teasingly. Ah…

“Well, you’re not too far from the mark.”

“Eh?”

“No, it’s not a date. Today, Tomomi, Ryoko and I were supposed to go see a movie together, but Tomomi caught a cold. I’m not sure if it’s a good idea or not, but it’s a good idea. We couldn’t go.”

“So, instead?”

“No, I know it’s kind of a bad way to put it, but .Well, it’s not worth wasting the ticket, and if you don’t have any plans?  You originally said you were going shopping today, right? I was just wondering if you were free.”

“Yeah. I don’t have anything special to do. By the way, what movie is it?”

“The one that’s been doing a lot of commercials lately. The Hollywood blockbuster.”

“Ah.. that.”

“You’re not interested?”

“Well… I was thinking of going to the bookstore today and buying the book it’s based on.”

“Doesn’t that mean you were really interested in it?”

“It feels like a lifesaver to be honest. Besides, is Kamo-san alright? With me joining?”

“Do you really think the communicative monster didn’t take that into account?”

“That was a stupid question. Thank you for inviting me. What should I do?”

I glance at the clock. It’s 8:30 now…

“The screening starts at 10:30, so how about we meet at the movie theater in front of the station by 10:20?”

“No problem.”

“Alright then, don’t be late.”

“Okay. Fufufu~. Higashi kujo-kun? You know? It’s my first time going to a movie theater with a man.”

She laughed happily on the phone.

“So…. I’m really looking forward to it.”

“…”

I thought you hadn’t gone with a girl of the same age to a movie theater either, but this is the kind of thing that would surely piss you off if I asked you, right?

“I hope you’re not thinking of something rude again.”

“I..I’m not! See you later! Don’t be late!”

Look out. I think she’s an actual esper.
