It was supposed to be just a simple job of making library cards at the library, but the annoying involvement of the librarian, Todo-san, made it more tiring than it needed to be.

We hurried back home after being sent off not only by Mr. Todo but also by some of the other librarians, who then said, “Come again for another date~.”

“Fufufu.”

Kiryu, who was looking very moody before she got on the train, later on remembered the eleven books we borrowed, and her steps were so light that she looked to be skipping along with a smile on her face.

“Looks like you had fun.”

“Because it was fun! I got the book I wanted to borrow, it’s a great day! My steps feel so much lighter!”

“I see. My steps feel heavier though.”

Mainly physical burden.

“I-I’m sorry. Do you want me to take half of that?”

“It’s fine. Besides, how are you even going to hold half of it?”

She only has a small bag.

“With both of my hands.”

“That will look pretty bad so please don’t.”

A school bag can be used in place of a backpack by slinging the handles over the shoulder, and the hand itself won’t hurt much. So the weight is heavy on my shoulders, but not so heavy that I can’t carry it.

“But every two weeks..”

“Well..”

“Ahh… Carrying this is fine, but Todo-san…”

“I’m really sorry about her. I guess I stood out a bit there. I’ve been going there since I was little, and I know a lot of the librarians there.”

“I understood that pretty well today.  Anyway, what about the boyfriend part? “

“I’m usually alone. It must have been unusual for them. I guess they were worried about you too~ so I’m sorry Higashi Kujo-kun, I was pretty happy back then so~.”

“Even if I’m treated as your boyfriend?”

“What’s the matter with you? We’re about to be married, aren’t we?”

Kiryu’s words made me draw back.

“I guess. Now that we’ve had our library date… what’s our next date supposed to be?”

“If it’s okay, would you like to go for a walk date as it is?”

“Ahh… I see. It would be better if I knew the geography too. I’m not sure if supermarkets and hundred-yen stores are enough to keep me going.”

“There’s a lack of appeal though.”

“It’s more like a walking date, or a mapping, something like that.”

“I know I’m the one who suggested it, but is your baggage heavy?”

“It’s not a big weight.”

“Ara~? So you’ll still be good in two weeks?”

“I would appreciate it if you would go easy on me.”

“Fufufu~. I was joking.”

Laughing happily as she says this, Kiryu then veered off the shortest way to our house and took a back road.

“Even though we’re off the main road, there’s not that big of a difference.”

“Yeah. I know it sounds bad when you think of the back streets of a downtown, but… it’s kind of ‘normal’ I think.”

“If anything, there are bigger houses over here too.”

“Ah, a quiet residential area is the selling point, isn’t it? The most popular is the one along the main street though.”

“I don’t think that’s the case… Ara~?”

Suddenly, Kiryu’s feet stopped.

What was in front of us was a small park.

“What is it? Do you want to ride the swings?”

“How childish do you think I am? It’s not that.”

With that said, I turn my gaze in the direction that Kiryu pointed to. And there it is.

“A basketball goal?”

“Yes.”

“Hmmm”

“Do you want to go there for a bit?”

“Alright. Let’s go.”

I nodded at Kiryu’s words and stepped into the park. It was past five o’clock, but the park was already deserted and there was no sign of anyone here now.

“Heeeh~”

When I approached the basketball goal, I found that, unusually for a park, the bottom was nicely paved with asphalt, and the three-point shooting line and free throw line had been drawn in white paint.

Amazing. It’s pretty neat.

“You like it a lot, don’t you? As far as I can tell from your exclamations.”

“I guess so. Usually, basketball goals in parks are made of dirt, but this is the first time I’ve seen such a solid one.”

“Oh… I see what you mean. Why is that?”

“Who knows? But, good is good… Oh?”

I saw an orange object rolling around the bottom of the goal. That’s a… basketball, right?

“You want to?”

“It’s probably someone else’s ball, though.”

“I don’t think they’ll get upset at you for borrowing a little bit. If they get angry, I’ll apologize with you. Consider it as thanks for what you’ve done for me today.”

“Then…”

I put my bag on the bench next to the basketball goal and walked to the bottom of the goal and reached for the ball. I let it bounce twice on the asphalt, and the ball, which was well aerated, bounced nicely.

“Alright.”

I dribbled back to the three-point line, dribbled towards the goal, and shot a lay-up. The ball went through the hoop and bounced on the asphalt with a popping sound without hitting the ring.

“You’re pretty good.”

“Anyone can do a layup, right?”

“I guess, I’m not a specialist, so I don’t know the specifics, but I think your shooting form was very beautiful.”

“Thank you.”

‘Hey, can’t you do that thing? What was that again… umm… oh yeah! Dunk shot!”

“You’re a bully. There’s no way a guy my height can dunk.”

When I said this and smiled bitterly, Kiryu looked a little disappointed but then bowed her head, saying, ‘I’m sorry”.

Well, it looks fancy and I understand why you want to see it, but… sorry, it’s physically impossible for me.

“Then, how about this?”

“This?”

I pick up the ball rolling under the goal and go back to the three point line. The angle is 45 degrees to the left, I stop dribbling with my eyes on the goal, sink to my knees and shoot.

“Woah! Amazing!”

The ball was sucked into the goal without hitting the ring once again. Staring at this spectacle with rounded eyes, Kiryu shouted in excitement.

“Amazing! That was a very beautiful shot! Higashi kujo-kun, you’re really good!”

“Well, I’m also short in stature. In a match the players in the center are the biggest ones. I was a sitting duck in the eyes of those guys, so all I did was practice from the outside.”

“I see… Awesome! You’re amazing, Higashi kujo-kun!”

Kiryu was leaping up and down with joy.

Seeing her I relaxed my cheeks.

Thank goddd!!! It went in—-!!

“Well, I guess we all get lucky.”

Really. When I was active, even if I was free, I didn’t get in that many. If I was given the chance to shoot ten times, I would never hit all of them. At best my success rate was around 60%.

So thank god. It looked awesome because it didn’t hit the ring, either. Oh, is that it? Is this God rewarding me for my hard work today?

“What do you think? You want to give it a try?”

I realized it wouldn’t be good if Kiryu said something like “Do it again!” so I passed the ball to her. After catching the ball quite easily, Kiryu then tilted her head.

“I wonder if I can…”

“I’m a little surprised. Usually in a situation like this, a girl would say ‘Kya’ and drop the ball.”

“I don’t think I’m that unathletic. But… nevermind, you have a point so… Kya!”

“You’re too late! I’m not appreciating a delayed reaction. okay?”

“Come on~.  I thought the cuter the better, so I offered my services.”

After puffing out her cheeks, Kiryu smiles at me. She then put her bag on the ground.

“Oh? Phone call?”

I heard ‘prrrr’ from inside Kiryu’s bag. She put the ball on the ground instead of the bag and took out the phone.

“That’s unusual. It’s father.”

Seriously? Well, I know there’s no reason to freak out.

Seriously?
