“I’m sorry, I’m sorry” I said bowing my head, grabbing Kiryu by the neck as she stared at the stall, I dragged her along with me as I left.(E/N: The “By the neck” is more in the comedic sense, so no need to worry about choking and the such or how harsh it sounds.)

“You… little… moron! What were you thinking?!”

“But! I didn’t even get one!”

“No ‘buts’! Also wow… We have spent a lot of time just yo-yo fishing.”

I wonder how many ten thousand bills were used up today.  Furthermore, she’s got nothing to show for it… How unproductive. No matter how much of a young lady she is, she still spent a bit too much.

“You’re in trouble if you get addicted to it. Just don’t mess around with money, okay?”

“I won’t. I’m aware.”

“Is that so?”

”Of course. I’m the kind of girl who buys books I already read at the library. I’m a collector, I guess.”

If you understand it, I guess it’s fine… No it isn’t. It’s not a good thing to still buy it if you already knew what it was about.

“And yet… it’s been that long?”

“Is it around an hour?”

“So long. We didn’t look around at all…”

“Who’s fault is that? Whose?”

“It’s mine…. Ne~? Wanna go look around some more?”

“Sure…”

Well, it’s not like there’s anything going on now, and that’s good, but… no, I’m kind of scared of this girl today. I can definitely see a future where she gets hooked on target shooting or something. I don’t know about food, though. I’m not hungry.

“Is there really anything else to look at?”

I guess I’ll settle for this kind of conclusion. I’m not sure if I knew what I was thinking… Well, Kiryu, who certainly didn’t, protests.

“Uhh… Well, I’m sorry about that! But we could at least a little more fun! We didn’t play enough!”

“After you’ve played so much?!”

I got the shivers.

Well, it is true, all this girl did was yo-yo fishing after all.

“Well, I don’t know what I want to do. But you, Kiryu? I’m wiped out in the food department, and I’m a little scared of the games, and now you.”

“We could buy some food and take it home for dinner.”

“I’m not saying it’s a waste… but if we take it home, it’s already cold by the time we can eat it.”

“Well, we have the added benefit of civilization in the form of a microwave oven!”

“That’s right… However? Why do you have to go to all the trouble of buying it here and then eating it? I’m going to cook something up anyway.”

“That’s right but…”

“To begin with… you’re the one who doesn’t like to waste money. What’s wrong today? Something’s off.”

That’s right. She’s stingy even for a young lady… Well, I think she was the type to save a lot of money on everything except for books but…. What’s really going on today?

“W-Well… uh..”

“If you want to come back, you can come back. This isn’t the only festival, and I’m sure there are other festivals that you could go to…”

“Ah!”

“Oh, come on”

Where do you think you’re going just as I’m saying that?

“Wai-. Oi, Kiryu!”

I followed Kiryu’s back as she started running. Ahead, Kiryu, who had arrived at her destination was crouching down and staring at something. What in the world is she– mm?

“A… street vendor?”

Although you sometimes see such stalls in the city… they look very strange as a “festival stall”. The products on display seem to be accessories? I can’t help but feel that they are not festival-oriented. Aren’t these the kind of toys and stuffed animals supposed to be for children? Thinking that, I turned my gaze to Kiryu.

“Cute..”

Looks like my analysis was wrong, Kiryu gazed at it with fascination. I see, there is a demand for this kind of thing after all.

“Which one?”

In response to my question, Kiryu silently points to it. I look in that direction and see…

“A keychain?”

There it was, a simple ring-shaped key chain. I wondered what the “cute” element in that was.

“Jewel.”

“Jewel?”

“Mhm. This jewel is pretty and… beautiful.”

Kiryu nodded her head in response to my question.

“Oh! You’ve got a good eye, customer! This is actually one of the best I’ve made!”

The street vendor’s sister came up to us smiling.

“Wow, this is your handmade work? That’s amazing dexterity. It wouldn’t look out of place in a regular store.”

“Yes, yes. It was a good stone, so I put all of my effort into making it! I named it ‘Moon of the Blue Sky’(Souten no Tsuki).”

“Moon of the Blue Sky?”

“Yes! The stone on the end of the keychain is lapis lazuli, right? Look!”

Saying so, the lady hands me the key chain. I look at the keychain closely and… huh?

“Is there something in there? I see what looks like a golden dot.”

“That’s right! That’s a mineral called pyrite. It is sometimes mixed with lapis lazuli, but it is rarely mixed in such a beautiful round shape! And two of them even! I couldn’t decide whether to make them rings or keychains, but I went with the keychains!”

Then she says, ‘Look at this!’ and shows me another keychain that would be a counterpart from earlier. When I looked at that one, I saw that it had a few large gold dots on it.

“Haa..”

“Originally, “Lazuli” in lapis lazuli means “heaven” or “sky”. See! When you think about it, it looks like a full moon in the night sky, doesn’t it?””

‘Right?’ And the lady smiles at me. Well, if you put it that way, well, I can’t help but think…

“In short, are you saying that gems have impurities mixed in?”

Time stopped. For a second or two, the street vendor’s sister looked at me with a very disapproving look. Uhh, what’s happening?

“What an awful thing to say. Don’t you have any sense of romanticism? Romanticism.”

“No, no, that’s not what I meant. Also, “Souten” is a name given to the night sky, isn’t it?”

It’s more of a daytime image. The point is, it means blue sky, right? Huh? No?

“I was emphasizing the feeling of the words! “Moon of the blue sky” is a cool name!”

“Is that so?”

“Haa. That’s tough, girlfriend. Having a boyfriend in the sciences.”

“She’s not my girlfriend! Also, I’m not a science major!”

Both Kiryu or this sister… What do you have against science?!

“A-ny-way! Here boyfriend! I’ll give you a little extra if you buy one for her! I mean, they come as a pair, so buy them both!”

“I told you she’s not my–”

“God, you’re annoying! Fine, she’s not your girlfriend! Anyway, look!”

The sister pointed at Kiryu. I, in turn, look in that direction…

“So? What do you think?”

Kiryu…

“Why are you staring at me like that? Do you think it’s a man’s duty to buy presents?

What’s with those puppy dog eyes? Will you stop that…? Ugh…

“……How much?”

◆◇◆

“Fufufu..”

It’s already three o’clock. That was long, I have been taken around a lot after that, and I’m completely exhausted… Kiryu, on the other hand, was in a good mood all the time.

“Would you properly look in front of you when you walk?”

“Ah, I’m sorry. But I’m walking straight, aren’t I?’

It’s useless. She isn’t listening. I insist on her looking forward… but her eyes are still on the keychain in her hand. She’s going to crash.

“Hey, Kiryu?”

“I know. You want me to be careful, don’t you?”

“If you know what I’m talking about, just look ahead and walk normally.’

“Fufufu..”

She’s not even listening…

“Higashi kujo-kun?”

“What is it?”

I turned my gaze after hearing her voice.

“…”

Kiryu was lovingly holding the keychain.

“Thank you. I will cherish it… forever and ever…”(E/N: Yabai, I’m beyond jealous, i’m just cursing my youth now.)

Saying so, Kiryu shows an enchanting smile.

“It isn’t that expensive though.”

“That doesn’t matter… Because–”

“–It was the first… gift I got from Higashi Kujo-kun.”

For some reason, I got extremely embarrassed by those words.

“…Didn’t I buy you some cold medicine and a thermometer?”

“Fufufu. Are you embarrassed, Higashi kujo-kun?”

“Shut up…”

Of course,I would be embarrassed. I thought so and turned my head away, but Kiryu happily called out to me.

“Well… it was a little selfish of me today, wasn’t it?”

“I guess. You’re usually more of the considerate type, aren’t you?

“I’m sorry about that. But, but you know? Today’s trip to the festival with Higashi kujo-kun made me really happy… so realizing that we have to leave makes me pretty sad.”

In the end, I was selfish, she said.

“So… I’m sorry?”

“…”

Haa…

“It’s fine. How was the trip then? Did you have fun?”

“Mhm! A lot! Hey, hey, Higashi kujo-kun! Let’s go to the festival together again!”

Saying so, Kiryu shows her joy with her whole body.

“….If I feel like it.”

I made up my mind to find out where the festival would be held in the nearest future.
