I ran down from the rooftop and headed for the back of the school building. On the way, I almost fell down twice, but I kept going.  Even I don’t know why I’m in such a hurry, but I knew I had to get to the back of the school building as soon as possible, dodging the people in front me and also past a teacher who yelled “Higashi kujo, don’t run!”. When I finally came into sight of the back of the school building, I heard a voice.

“Hey! Are you listening to me, Kiryu-san?”

“That’s right! Say something!”

“Don’t you feel sorry for her? Miyuki has always loved Nakayama-kun. You can’t just steal him like that! Miyuki, you tell her!

“Y-Yeah! Kiryu-san! D-Don’t steal Nakayama-kun! I know you must have used some charm or something on him, but Nakayama-kun doesn’t suit you!”

What happened… Well, it’s easy to take a hint from their convo. I’m guessing the boy, Nakayama-kun, had a crush on Kiryu, and Miyuki-san liked that Nakayama-kun. It’s nothing more than a plain entanglement of love.

“…”

Well, this is not really that big of a problem. When Mizuho said “Kiryu-senpai is gonna be finished” with such intensity I got pretty nervous.

“Well, don’t you use your common sense?”

That being said, we are a fairly prestigious school. Regardless of how much they hate her, they probably won’t get violent. That made me feel a little relieved, then I began thinking about Nakayama-kun. I mean, Kiryu is the “Villainess” after all. How can you even think about going after her? Are you a brave man, Nakayama-kun? Or is it like that? Don’t tell me Kiryu—

“I’m sorry but… who is this Nakayama-kun?”

Yep she doesnt know him. I mean, she doesn’t even realize what’s going on in the first place, does she? At Kiryu’s words, Miyuki and the others get heated up.

“I-It’s Nakayama-kun! Hora~! The next ace of the baseball team! What are you pretending not to know! Don’t play dumb with me!”

“I’m not playing dumb. I simply don’t remember him.”

“Y-You c-can’t remember?! I’m not stupid! Do you think you can get away with that excuse?”

“I’m not making excuses, I really don’t remember him. I honestly think I have a better memory than most of you, or… Maybe he’s a person who doesn’t leave that much of an impression?”

“He’s not that unimpressive! He’ s the next ace of the baseball team!”

“I’m sorry. I don’t really have the slightest interest in him. Therefore, uh… Miyuki Shimizu-san, was it? I’m not going to steal the person you love, so please don’t worry. I have zero intentions.”

Good news. The last name of “Miyuki-san” is Shimizu. Not that I care, to be honest.

“I-I’m not fooling around ! Even though you say that,  you were probably just trying to get a good look at him!”

“Why would I do that? I told you before. I’m not interested in any of this.”

“Lies!”

“…Then what are you asking me to do?”

Although I can’t hear it, I think Kiryu must have let out a sigh judging by her tired tone.

Oh no, Kiryu. Doing that will just worsen your situation.

“Huh?! What! Don’t be full of yourself just because you’re a little cute!”

“Ara~? It’s not like I’m trying to be uptight. Well, yes I’m cute. Since we’re on the subject, I’ll just say it. The fact that I’m cute is true. But you know what? It’s not that I was born with good looks. Despite not being a morning person, I get up early to jog and avoid eating too many sweets and snacks. Shimizu-san? Do you make similar efforts? Uhh… Yamanaka-kun was it?”

“It’s Nakayama-kun!”

“Right. Anyway, do you make a similar effort to be liked by this Nakayama-kun? It could be to improve your appearance, or you could work hard at your studies and teach him. Or you could even work on your exercise to play catch with him. He’s a baseball player, isn’t he? I’m sure he’ll be overjoyed.”

“W-Well…uh…”

“If it were me, I would go that far to make the other person like me. That is if I really liked that person. At the very least, I would never do something like “snapping at the other person out of jealousy”, which is a shameful, pathetic, and most likely the stupidest option to be considered in such a situation. Because I am sure that if that person finds out that I am doing such things, he or she will surely start to hate me. I would definitely not want to be that kind ‘stupid’ person.”

“…”

“In the first place, are you happy to get this Nakayama-kun by doing this? Will you accept that kind of hand-me-down if I respond, “Understood, then I won’t speak with Nakayama-kun? “

“Hand-me-down…? You like Nakayama-kun after all!’

“Could you please not respond instantly as if it were a spinal reflex, it bugs me. Of course it’s an analogy. Can’t you even understand that? Do I have to explain everything to you? You have completed your compulsory education, right? You don’t need me to explain it to you, do you? Ah, do I need to start with Japanese?”

“Hey, hey, oh, just because you’re smart doesn’t mean you can fool me with something so difficult!”

“Do I really need to start with an explanation of the Japanese language? Don’t make me explain the same thing over and over again, it’s tiring. Like I said before, the reason I have good grades is because I study hard. It’s the result of my unrelenting efforts while you guys are out at karaoke clubs and cafes wasting time. What gives you the right? You are envious and jealous of others’ achievements without putting in much effort yourselves. I have no way of knowing, nor do I care, what drew this Nakayama-kun or whoever he/she is to me… But everything was because of something that I, myself, worked hard to obtain. Okay, let’s be clear about this. A person who doesn’t work hard to improve himself/herself, and yet tries to get results, is a lower class of human being. Such a person is–“

I could feel a “pressure” coming from the other side, like cold air.

“–A despicable human being. Reflect on it and come back. I’ll crush you anytime.”

The back of the school building is quiet and still. From here I can’t see what’s happening, but well, it’s probably better that I don’t see it.

After a while, I heard Shimizu-san’s voice, who was sobbing.

“M-Miyuki…”

“U-Uh… K-Kiryu-san! You didn’t have to make her cry!”

“Ara~? Is that so? Didn’t you invite me to the back of the school building so that the three of you could surround me and criticize me as much as you like? I don’t mean to be a monkey who looks to fight, but I’ll buy a fight that’s been sold to me, wouldn’t you too?”

‘Yes, but there’s a better way to say it! Look at Miyuki, she’s crying!”

“If you’re going to cry over something like this, you shouldn’t have started the fight in the first place. Are you stupid?”

“Oh! Fine! Come on, Miyuki!”

“Y-yeah! Hora~, don’t cry! Come on, Miyuki! Let’s leave Kiryu-san alone!”

That said, the flurry of footsteps…. C**p!

“W-Who the h**l are you?!”

“What are you eavesdropping on… Miyuki! Don’t cry! It’s fine so let’s go!”

Finally, glaring at me, the two girls run with a crying girl who is probably Shimizu-san. Looking at them like that—-

“Is someone there? Eavesdropping is in poor taste.”

I hear a voice from behind the school building.

“How long are you going to stay there? Show your face. I don’t know who you are or where you’re from, but that’s poor taste.”

“…”

“Didn’t you hear me? Show yourself, NOW!!”

It can’t be helped. I guess this is the only way to get out.

“Yo.”

Scared, I turn my face away and make my appearance. Seeing me like this, Kiryu calls out to me.

“You’re finally showing me….your…..fa–.”

Her voice stops mid-sentence.

“…”

“..Eek, Higashi kujo-kun? Eh? D-Did you see that?”(E/N: Why’d she become so meek lmao.)

“I didn’t see… But I heard it… Uhh… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but… when Mizuho told me that Kiryu was taken to the back of the school building… I was a little worried.”

“…”

“…”

“K-Kiryu?”

“…”

“Uhh…..”

“..Since, when..?”

“‘When’ you ask— Eh, Kiryu?”

Unexpectedly, I hear a weak and feeble voice. I looked at Kiryu’s face, not believing that it was the same voice as the person who had just berated a girl my age.

“—-Hey, you! Wa-Why are you crying?!”

“S-Since when?! Answer me!!’

“No, answer me first! Stop crying… Now, what’s wrong?”

“I’m fine!  Please!  Give me an answer!!”

Kiryu approaches me in tears, seemingly clinging to me.

“From the “Hey! Are you listening to me!” part. Well… probably since the beginning.”

I replied as so.

“…..a”

Without saying anything… and with tears in her eyes, Kiryu runs past me.(E/N: Ah, ya~bai. Oi stop it, RUN–!)
