Chapter 77 - A Bad Premonition

Cain Elgrandark turned twelve years old this year. In other words, he was eligible to go to the royal academy. After the God Migration festival, as the clamor and excitement of the new year faded, Cain’s school uniform was delivered.

“What…is the meaning of this?”

Ilvalino took the delivered box to Cain’s room. Cain quickly opened the box and inspected what was inside. Inside the box was unfirm with a design he had never seen before.

Because Cain was the first-born son, he naturally had never seen the uniform before. Cain had memories of his past life, the world that he was in was the world he played in his previous life. It was strange though that he didn’t find the uniform familiar.

“Isn’t this the De Magic Academy uniform?” That must not be the case. Unlimited Magic Academy was one of the best schools in the country and it was customary for the noble families to attend that academy.

It wasn’t like there weren’t any other schools in the country, but if you attended another school, it would be a school with a generalized curriculum, resulting in a fall of status, or a vocational school. Cain, being the first-born son of a Duke, could not attend schools like that.

“Did the design of the uniform change without me knowing? Or could it be something else…?”

In the game’s original story Cain’s sister Dianna was the classmate of the protagonist, which takes place three years after.  The uniform that Cain was holding in his hands must be the old design, it could have changed over the three years and that was why Cain didn’t know about it.

But was that the case? Cain thought as he tilted his head curiously. Come to think of it, he was sure that along with the uniform the introductory school admissions paperwork must have arrived too. He asked Ilvalino and he confirmed that they had been delivered and that he would ask Mr. Waynes before he left the room.

Until now it did not seem that Ilvalino had heard about the school. After a short while, Ilvalino returned, while tilting his head he relayed the butler’s verbal message to Cain.

“It does not seem like Waynes will say. He said that you should ask the duke tonight for an explanation directly.”

“Directly from my father…”

Cain had a bad feeling about it.

Normally if he would be attending the Unlimited Magic Academy, he wouldn’t need to have an explanation. The nobles of the country Limuto Break primarily attended the De Magic Academy. To graduate, you needed to pass an exam, but an exam was not required to get in.

The second and third born son could attend a Knight Training School and a daughter from a low-ranking family could attend school to become a maid or a high-class maid. But Cain was the first-born son.

Certainly, his father wouldn’t enroll him in a knight training school or mage school without talking to him first, Cain thought. However, still unanswered questions about what the talk with father would be about swirled around his mind.

During afternoon tea he attempted to ask his mother Elysee but she simply said, “You have to talk to your father.”

He hung the uniform that had been delivered to him on the wall and looked at it.  It had a stand-up collar and had double buttons. It looked like a knight’s formal dress and had an emblem sewn on the chest.

He flipped the collar and the pockets to check the lining. But there was no indication where it came from. Only his name was embroidered on the inner pocket.

Only, the emblem on the chest was not the school insignia of the De Magic Academy. Cain didn’t remember seeing this in the game. The design of the buttons also matched the emblem sewn on the uniform.

If he didn’t enroll in the De Magic Academy he wouldn’t be in the same school as Dianna three years later. He wouldn’t be Dianna’s senpai. He wouldn’t be able to interfere with her classmate route, the underclassman route, or the teacher route.  He hadn’t encountered them yet.

Worst of fall, he wouldn’t be able to interfere with the Paladin route that could ultimately kill her. Now that he had gotten to know Geraint and the Chris siblings through swordsmanship training, and he didn’t feel suspicious of them anymore and would go into the Devil’s Forest with them.

While he stared at the uniform there came a knock from the door. Ilvalino asked for permission from Cain before he opened the door.[Read this novel and other amazing translated novels from the original source at the “Novel Multiverse dot com” website @ novelmultiverse.com]

“Sorry to disturb you, older brother. It was a great delight seeing you in music class.”

“Welcome to my room. Please come in Miss Dianna.”

Dianna performed a lady-like bow and Cain bowed to her in response. Gone were the days where she would knock and burst through the door vigorously.

Dianna walked next to Cain and together they looked at the uniform hanging on the wall. From behind they clasped hands while swinging their shoulders, they looked at the uniform from the left, the right, and bottom.

“Elder brother, this is what you will be wearing when you attend school next month?”

“Probably, but this is the uniform of the school that I want to go to.”

Dianna’s shoulder swinging was increasing in intensity, and they were bumping up against Cain’s. Still, Cain did not move an inch.

“What do you mean? This isn’t the uniform to the Unlimited Magic Academy?”

“No, I think it is different…The emblem on the chest seems different.”

“Well, none of your friends are students and you haven’t seen it before. So, you can’t really judge accurately.”

As would be expected he couldn’t really say it was different from the memory he had of it in his past life. He felt that had no choice but to deceive. Dianna’s shoulder swinging had increased in intensity to the point she was ramming his shoulders. She would run forward hit him, bounce back, and repeat the process. Still, Cain was not perturbed.

“Is there a list of all the schools in the library?”

*thud*

“Oh, that’s right. If there is a list of the school emblems, I would be able to compare it to the emblem on the uniform.”

*thud*

“Can you take the uniform to the library?”

*thud*

“No, I will draw a picture of the emblem.”

*thud*

Dianna slammed into Cain’s shoulders each time he talked. Cain didn’t say anything, but at the right moment, he leaned into Dianna and stood against her advances.

“I will take paper and a pen.”

Ilvalino ignored the siblings’ rough housing as usual and went over to the desk to grab the tools, then returned to where Cain and Dianna where they had adopted the appearance of a gentleman and a lady.

Dianna sat back-to-back with Cain who’s was bent from the waist like a bow. They crossed their arms together so that Dianna was supported and would not fall. Dianna’s skirt had turned over to show even her petticoat.

“Miss Dianna!”

“Oops! Elder Brother, let’s take turns.”

Cain warned her about her immodesty, but Ilvalino had become accustomed to such things and didn’t even blush when he saw her petticoat. Cain helped put Dianna’s feet back on the floor then they tried it the opposite way.

“Elder brother you have become heavier!”

“I am going through a growth spirt!”

Just like that Cain’s feet raised as Dianna bent over, then she slowly straightened so Cain could put his feet on the floor on the other side. Both were gentle.

“What are you doing…?”

“Stretching exercises.”

They returned to their upright positions and held their hands up in the air grinning. Ilvalino sighed and shook his head. They were still the same brother and sister. While Cain copied the emblem on the uniform on a piece of paper, Ilvalino brushed their hair.

When Ilvalino had brushed their hair and cleaned up their clothes, Dianna and Cain intertwined their arms and walked to the library. Cain looked like a gentleman escorting a lady.

Dianna and Cain took one step out of the room with gentle smiles on their face. Ilvalino followed behind them as a chamberlain.
