Jack Schnee [RWBY]

Chapter 5 - Prison (Short Flashback)

Yang: Your brother is pretty cool. Is he taken?

Weiss: Are you joking?

Yang: Mostly. Seriously though what's wrong.

Ruby: Yeah, we just got free snacks. What's not to be happy about?

Weiss: I'm just worried about him. Jack may appear fine on the outside, but I know that he's a mess on the inside. The reason I can say this for sure is because of what happened 7 years ago.

[7 years ago, in the Schnee Household- Weiss POV]

It was a day like any other to me. Nothing noteworthy happened except that father suddenly had an emergency meeting somewhere and had no time to give my brother any extra chores to do in his absence. I remember that it was snowing, and it was very cold inside the mansion. I thought I could pay him a visit and we could play some games, but I found him diligently working on his usual chores. I told him that father went far enough that he couldn't be back by at least tomorrow, so he should take a break and play with me. As soon as I said it I could see a flash of fear run across his face before it returned to his usual expression as he refused my offer. I wasn't going to take no for an answer, so I threatened to stop speaking him for a month if he didn't accept my offer. Another wave of fear flashed through across his face as he reluctantly accepted my idea. I asked him what he wanted to do but he couldn't give me an immediate answer. I thought about why he wasn't thinking about having fun. There's no way that he likes the chores he does. Eventually, we decided to go outside and play in the snow. He was unhappy about it at first, but he came around and we had loads of fun making a snowman, snow angels, and playing tag. Everything was going great until father came home later that evening. Apparently, there was a snowstorm that prevented him from going to the meeting and he had no choice but to come home. Of course, dad was upset that the chores left for Jack weren't done and proceeded to beat the crap out of him. I peered through the crack in the door to see him punch him in the face, throw him across the room, and kick him while he was already down. There was absolutely no mercy on him and I figured out that it wasn't that Jack didn't want to have fun but wasn't really given the time to have fun. Even in the off chance he wasn't being bombarded with chores he wasn't given any permission to leave the mansion and he didn't have much money to buy anything personal for himself. It's not that he didn't want to but couldn't. I realized that probably more than anyone in the house, he was the one suffering the most.

That's why when I see him doing things similar to butler duties like making Cream Puffs I'm sad that he may still be trapped in a prison that he still hasn't escaped from.

Jack: You know you have a girl's name, right? Why?

Olga: My parents wanted a girl and couldn't decide on a name to give to a boy. I'm so ashamed.

Jack: You're not ashamed at the fact that you chase after all the girls you come across in school.

Olga: No. Were soulmates, they just don't know it yet.

Jack: If you say so.

Jack walks away pretending not to know Olga.
