Jack Schnee [RWBY]

Chapter 52 - They seem familiar...

Eve POV

I called Jack's scroll after the announcement but he wasn't picking up no matter how much I called. I glanced around to see people panicking and from the arena stands, I could hear the Grimm approaching this location. Either way, whether its the explosions or the Grimm, I need to go help keep this place safe. I rush out of the area I was in and make my way towards the sounds of the explosions until I heard another sound off in the distance. It wasn't as loud as the explosion from before but it was the sound of a wall being knocked down by someone or something. It sucks that we have another problem to deal with in such a short amount of time. I call some of the nearby students for some help as I make my way toward the sound I heard before. It didn't take long until I reached the destroyed wall and saw some familiar faces.

They look just like the bandits that we encountered on our mission. Wait, these people are the same people we encountered on that mission. Why are they here? It's more than a little out of the way from them so I could only think that they were paid off to attack the academy. I look over at the group of thirty or so men and women. I noticed that the person who looks like there leader has a familiar feeling to him. I push the thought away as I start shooting the distracted men from a safe distance away. My attacks caught some of them off guard while others were able to quickly react and dodge the arrows. The other students that came with me take this opportunity to charge toward the men and start attacking in full force. I'm constantly moving and taking shots at the bandits to provide cover and to deal significant damage to them. I did shoot straight through some of their legs so there not going to be participating in the fight anymore, but others are strong enough to catch my arrows and snap them in half like the leader. He hasn't taken any damage since the fight started. He's merely standing near the back and barking out orders while wearing a complacent expression on his face. It was unfortunate that the few people that followed me over here weren't enough to stop all these people. He knocked down around ten of them before we started to get overwhelmed. I didn't even notice the leader move from his position. We need to retreat and get some more help from the other huntsman in the academy. I turn around and run back to get some more help. That would have been the case if I hadn't run right into someone and fell on my b.u.t.t. I looked up and saw a dark grin on the man's face.

Bandit Leader: It's annoying to see a sniper take out your troops. It's better in those cases to sneak up behind them, get into melee range, and destroy the enemy.

I bring up my bow to shoot him but he just smacks it away.

Bandit Leader: Is that the best you can do? I expected more from a huntsman attending Beacon.

This man chuckles and nonchalantly says while standing in front of me. I'll take advantage of your overconfidence to beat you. I recall the numerous training exercises I've done and started fighting him in hand to hand combat. Even so, I can't lay a single finger on him. He still has the same smiling expression as he dodges all of my attacks.

Bandit Leader: I can hear every move you make. I can hear your heart beating a million miles a minute as you attack me. I can hear the bones in your body shift as you move your arms and legs. I can even hear the sounds you make shifting the earth under your feet when you get into a position to run, whether it's towards or away from me. Just give up, you can't escape or win no matter how hard you try. Don't worry, if you give up now I'll only beat you half to death. Don't worry though, you'll get keep all of your limbs attached which I can't promise to the rest of your companions.

What am I going to do? Where's Jack? Is anyone going to help me?

The man counteracts for the first time and throws me against a nearby wall.

Bandit Leader: Wow, I know that sound. How interesting.

As he approached me, he reached his hand out and blocked a punch headed for his direction. I looked over and saw Olga. What's he doing here?

Bandit Leader: Why do you even bother? You know how this went the last time we fought and I doubt that someone like you can beat me unless you can pull a legendary artifact out of your pocket. Trust me, kid, you better off joining up with us. Stop your fruitless struggle, your job is over now. There's no need for you to stay here any longer.

I couldn't believe it. Sure, Olga is a jerk that deserves to get beat up a couple of times a day because of the words he spits out of his mouth but I never would've thought that he was a traitor with these people.

Olga: I like it here and even though I wasn't acting myself there were still people that accepted me and gave me a place. I'm not going back with you, dad.

Olga's Dad: Finally showing a little backbone. Maybe there's hope for you yet, but what about your mother.

Olga: I'll take care of it somehow.

Olga's Dad: I bet you will.

Olga: I'll do it with this gift that you gave me.

Olga pulls out a purple gem and I could see the amused expression on Olga's dad's face shift into one of anger.

Olga: I may not have any legendary artifact but this will have to do. I won't lose this time.

The gem grew roots as it attached itself to my arm, I could feel it as it pierced my skin and borrow its way into my bloodstream. I could feel my aura grow as it released something inside my blood. My sense of smell has multiplied and I could smell way better than before. I also smell a lot of blood in a certain direction. I believe the white fang was heading in that direction. I hope everyone's okay over there because my teammate needs me and I'm about to prove that I belong here. This is the first step into creating a new, better me.
