Kingdom Of The Moonlight Rose

Chapter 18 - Kingdom Predicament

Before going on anything Headmaster Oak wanted to provide Adara and Eden a better understanding of the political landscape of the Rivenhart Kingdom.

"As you all know, the current king of the Rivenhart Kingdom is King Ash." started Headmaster Oak. "King Ash has long been our King for two hundred years. However his reign will soon come to an end."

Everyone knew the news of the King and his advanced age. King Ash who defended the Rivenhart Kingdom from the hands of many invading nations was a legend amongst the people.

King Ash was the third king who inherited the throne from his father King Soot, who inherited the throne from King Hearth, mismanaged the kingdom and almost brought its ruin. Many will say that the greatest thing King Soot did during his reign was retire so that King Ash could sit on the throne.

"King Ash does not have any next of kin and has yet to designate a successor. When he passes, so too shall the current political system here in the Kingdom of Rivenhart." continued Headmaster Oak. "King Ash's negligence on this topic simply means he does not see anyone that has the potential to sit on the throne. This would mean that another group would have to stand up and try to take over the throne."

"There are currently four large factions that are working on developing someone who could take the throne. The first would be the Asura Faction, they are warmongers who love the taste of battle. The leader of this faction is the former Minister of War, Alder Kreig a third circle Earth elementalist. He gained his fame in the military for his quick onslaughts that caught his enemies by surprise, often attacking when his enemies were not ready." stated Headmaster Oak. "However despite their love of war, Alder and his faction has always been loyal to King Ash."

"The second faction would be the Golden Arch Faction. They are the economical backbone of the Rivenhart Kingdom and their pockets definitely run deep. Their lifeline is tied to the Kingdom and this is a chance for them to finally take ownership. They operate by one rule, "Gold is everything". They are led by the Arun Paxton a third circle Wind Elementalist"

Headmaster Oak continued to explain, "The Golden Arch and Asura factions are the two more popular factions. Strength through battle, and strength through wealth. These next two factions although seldom in the limelight do indeed have deep roots within the kingdom."

"The third faction would be the Dusk Faction. Like every kingdom, Rivenhart has had to deal with it's fair shares of uprisings and internal strife. This faction was established by King Ash during his early rule. They are responsible for quelling the internal strife within the land through any means necessary. Their leader's name is Grey, not much is known of him, but I do want to say that he possesses the darkness element and most likely at the third circle."

"The last faction is a faction of elites. It has taken me great effort to find information on them. They operate from the shadows and only appear during the times of peril for the Kingdom. They consist of eight members. Seven of the strongest elementalists within the kingdom United under one single leader. The name of the faction is called Rainbow Door and I have no information on their leader"

"Asura, Golden Arch, Dusk, and Rainbow Door, say what you want about these groups, but the kingdom has always been on their hearts. Their loyalty to the kingdom is unquestioned."

"Alongside the four factions are the Three Great Families of Rivenhart, Azure, Zephyr, and Everest, each with a third circle elementalist as their head. They have made significant contributions to the kingdom since the days of King Hearth. With King Ash's decline and no heir apparent the most likely to sit on the throne would be someone from the three families, they are the closest to the origin of the Rivenhart Kingdom."

"These groups have created a balance of power within the Kingdom. Imagine the battles and internal struggles that would be created if the King left without a successor. At this point, even if the King did appoint a successor most likely, the factions and families would seek to eliminate them since they are not of his blood. With King Ash's death, it would end the bloodline of King Hearth. At that very moment, without the bloodline, families or factions will have nothing more to declare their loyalty towards. At that moment the Rivenhart Kingdom will cease to exist. We have estimated with his decline, he at most has 10 years left before he passes." explained Headmaster Oak.

Eden, Adara, and Ignis continued to ponder in silence. The Rivenhart Kingdom could be gone within the next ten years.

"This brings us to this gathering, Eden and Adara, you both have alot of potential and we will need both of you when we showcase our Oak Academy's strength next year. The goal is to establish ourselves as a power within the kingdom." stated Headmaster Oak.

"Become a power?" asked Adara

"Yes, the goal is to be a foundation for the kingdom when the crisis appears. The first step is to establish ourselves and our academy through our participation in the year end tournament. For that we need to find at least three more new elementalists. And that is the reason Eden we have begun travelling through the kingdom."

Eden was shocked at all the knowledge. Rainbow Door? Dusk? Everest? The king will be gone in ten years?

Eden asked the question that was weighing on his and Adara's mind, "How do you know so much Headmaster?"

"I, Lazarus Oak, am one of King Ash's closest friends, and the former shield of the King."
