Larger Than Life, Bigger Than Us

Chapter 12 - Who is my fiance?

Doctor Shi was at the door when he noticed SongJae sitting near Lily's bed. Somehow, the young man gave the impression he was lonely. Doctor Shi couldn't help but pity him a little. Even though, he was wealthy, SongJae had to shoulder all his family responsibilities. But he was barely older than Miss Sheng.

Still Doctor Shi had a lot of admiration and pride toward SongJae. Nobody knew better than him, how hard SongJae had to work in order to maintain their livelihood for his grandfather and his younger brother. All while studying and pretending to still be one of those rich heirs, so that nobody would look down on his brother and him at school and college.

"SongJae what happened to Miss Sheng?"

The youth turned his face and one could see how truly worried he was.

" She fainted but we have no idea why."

After a quick examination, Doctor Shi didn't find anything wrong with her. Maybe she had a moment of weakness? She wasn't fully healed yet. He gave SongJae a tonic prescription.

"Apart from being a little weak, she is in no danger. She should recover normally. She isn't fully healed yet, so she should avoid strenuous exercise. Also, I would recommend sparing from any big shocks."

The doctor quickly left after to tend to other matters. In his eyes, there was a devilish faint light that even SongJae failed to notice.

Lily rested the full night and woke up to see SongJae's head on her bed side, his body sleeping uncomfortably seated on a chair. She still remembered the debutante bal, her with a crown and the shadow lord. Though, the last part brought inexplicable feelings of deep anxiety, she was determined to learn more about herself. It seemed her first step would be to attend the bal.

Maybe because he sensed some movements next to him, SongJae's eyes slowly opened. When he saw her looking so resolute, his heart sank a little and his c.h.e.s.t tightened. She was looking so beautiful at that exact moment, like a fairy that had escaped from some fantasy land. He wasn't willing to share her with anyone, if only she could stay in his home, defenceless, like this forever. She then would have no choice but to rely on him forever. Feelings of possessiveness had darken his eyes. The longer he was staring at her, the more unwilling he was to expose her to the world.

The young lady finally noticed that he wasn't sleeping anymore, she slightly smiled.

"I'm so sorry you could not rest properly! You didn't have to tend to me the whole night. I'm a grown up girl, I would have been fine. I thank you however for doing so."

"That is not even worth mentioning! My fiancée is sick, of course I must look after her. Else I would make a very poor future husband...Darling, what made you fainted? You must tell me everything! You can't suffer in silence!"
