Larger Than Life, Bigger Than Us

Chapter 38 - Trivial pursuit

"We will find her eventually!" …hopefully dead! but that part Minh didn't dare to voice it out.

"Now you need to take a warm shower, eat food and rest! If you black out, you'll become useless you know!"

Minh had been taking care of Dai since Ran Shen had disappeared and was careful to guess what Dai would need every single time. In rescue stand-ups when he was looking for a pen, she would provide him with one. When his stomach grumbled, she would have warm food ready for him. If he had fallen asleep, she would cover his body with a blanket. She was akin to a shadow overseeing him.

While Minh was caring for Dai, she was also waiting for the opportunity to grow her place in Dai's heart. All she needed was one moment of weakness so that she could never be dislodged. She had taken care of the Ran Sheng issue, she needed to move to the next step in her plan.

It had already been 3 days since Ran Sheng had disappeared. National security was alerted, rescue troops were alternating to scour the forest. But the grounds to cover were huge and, besides the area the summer camps used for the final survival test, most of the territory was left uncharted.

On the 4th day, a big tragedy also occurred. On their way to the summer camp, the family of Ran Sheng met with an unfortunate fate : they died in an accident. Hearing the news, Dai's guilt soared. Taking a survival kit, Dai rushed right back to the forest alone. Following him like a shadow was Minh with her own survival kit.

Minh needed an only one opportunity. She didn't think she would get it so soon.

Dai had been walking for a few hours, when he stepped on bunches of leaves and branches that covered a chasm. Without time to react, he was already falling down. Minh, seeing Dai falling, charged toward Dai to rescue him but just ended up falling along him. If Dai had been in his normal state, he would have noticed there ground was hollow in that section, but Dai was so preoccupied by Ran and wasn't paying attention.

"Are you ok Minh?" Despite the fall, it wasn't too deep and the ground was soft and humid so Dai was more or less unhurt. He had some minor cuts and would certainly be bruised, so he had been lucky.

On the other hand, Minh had been unluckier, in her fall, she ended up hurting her ankle and was m.o.a.ning in pain.

"Ooouch..I'll be fine...We can't stay too long here...let's try to go back tot he camp? haaah"

"Let me take a look..." Dai used his hand to feel Minh's ankle. "It seems nothing is broken, just a light sprain."

In the fall, Dai's survival kit had been opened and the content had scattered out but on what was left, he couldn't find any material to bandage her ankle. Minh's survival kit was still intact but was currently hidden by her body. So Dai thought, Minh's kit also had been lost.

Without hesitating further, Dai took his shirt out and tore a large band from the bottom of the shirt. He then proceeded to tightly bound Minh's ankle. Minh's could see he was worried for her so she thought this was her opportunity. She had to strike now.

"Dai...if we can't make it alive, there is something I have to tell you..." Minh's voice was trembling, her eyes was looking at him with devotion.

"What are you saying Minh? We'll definitely make it alive!"

"I have to say it now or I'll regret...Dai...since the first time I have seen you, my heart was yours. I like you!" On those words, Minh threw herself on Dai.
