After nuzzling with each other for 2 hours, Lucia and I begrudgingly left her dorm room to get lunch.

Luckily, since a lot of students were currently at the picnic that started this morning, Lucia and I didn’t have to wait that long to get our lunches.

Of course that didn’t stop Lucia from complaining anyway.

“Ugh... why can’t people just evolve to get their energy from sunlight like plants do? My life would be a whole lot easier.”

Lucia grumbled before looking through the lunch options that the food cart had for today.

“Lucia, if that happened, you’d just start complaining about having to open your window twice a day.”

“Whatever.”

Lucia said dismissively before taking a few items off the counter of the food cart and nudging me towards the courtyard.

In turn, I took a couple items out of her arms and started walking in the direction that she ushered me towards.

The pathway leading up to the secluded courtyard felt a lot easier to traverse today.

Which confused me a little since the path didn’t seem to be all that different from how it was the day prior.

“Hey, is something wrong Otto? For once, you look as if you’re deep in thought.”

Lucia said, with a smidge of concern in her voice.

“Nah, I’m fine. I was just thinking about how easy it is to walk through here today. I feel like it’s usually a bit harder.”

“Now that you mention it, I kinda feel the same way. Maybe it has something to do with the weather?”

Lucia said before looking up at the clear blue sky.

“That can’t be it, you hate all the seasons equally.”

“What do you think is causing this then?”

“It could be that someone put some sort of spell that we’re currently on to make it easier to use.”

I mean if Lucia can deflect rain with a shield of fire, someone could probably make a road magically easier to traverse.

“You can’t cast a spell like that in a day, Otto. That shit takes someone at least a week to do.”

Lucia said before wrapping her arm tightly around my own.

“Well, maybe they started casting the spell a few months back, and only now is it starting to take effect.”

“Who would have the time and motivation to do that sort of thing in the first place? I mean we’re literally the only ones who use this path on a daily basis.”

“Well, in that case… could it just be that we’re just excited to have lunch together, and that’s causing our bodies to feel lighter?”

“…I mean, most people tend to feel that way when they’re going on a lunch date of some sort, right?”

“We would have to be dating in order for that logic to work.”

“Okay smartass… will you go out with me then?”

Lucia said while trying to avoid eye contact with me.

“Yeah, obviously…”

“Great… so then my logic checks out.”

“I guess it does…”

“Anyway uh, we’ve made it!”

Lucia said quickly before gesturing towards the overgrown courtyard that was now in front of us and pulling me over to the mossy boulder situated in the middle of it.

“Alright, now to see what I’m having for lunch today.”

Lucia mumbled to herself after looking at the pouches of food and drinks that were nestled in her arms.

“Wait hold on, you spent like 30 minutes going through the options. How do you not know what you picked up?”

I asked incredulously before unwrapping the food packet that I got from Lucia just a few moments ago.

“I dunno, how do you not know what’s going on in this school on most days?”

Lucia said in a sardonic tone.

“Because I choose not to? It’s not like I’m gonna miss out on much if I don’t pay attention to the stuff that happens in this school on a daily basis.”

“…Wouldn’t you have missed out on the festival had I not said anything about it?”

“That’s irrelevant, since it’s practically impossible for you to not lecture me about stuff I don’t know about.”

I said while having a smug expression plastered on my face.

In response, Lucia simply just rolled her eyes and began unwrapping one of the packets of food that she got from the cart.

What came out of the packet appeared to be a grilled cheese sandwich made from the cheapest cheese imaginable and bread possessed by some sort of demon.

“Ugh, the hell?”

Lucia blurted out, slightly disgusted while watching a sickly green liquid drip off the side of the sandwich.

“Otto, do you mind if I shared your lunch with you today? I don’t want to contract a deadly disease from this thing.”

“Yeah, sure. I don’t mind.”

I said before handing Lucia half of the salami sandwich that I got from the mystery packet.

In turn, Lucia just nodded before taking a large bite out of the slice that I handed her.

“By the way Lucia, why did you decide to get the food packets that didn’t have any labels today?”

“I wanted to try doing something new today. After all, doing the same thing over and over again gets boring eventually.”

“I can’t say that I really empathize with you. I mean, if I had the chance to relive the same day over and over again for the rest of my life, I’d probably take it.”

“Are you in charge of designing my personal hell or something? Because what you just described sounds exactly like how I imagined it.”

Lucia asked before squinting her red eyes at me.

“I mean, it’s not like it's rare for somebody’s idealized world to look like a hellscape to someone else.”

“Enough with the cryptic stuff alright? I don’t want to do a bunch of mental gymnastics on my day off.”

Lucia said after resting her head on my lap.

Which almost made me almost lose my balance and fall over.

“Oi… give me a head’s up next time.”

“It’s fun watching you squirm though.”

…My day-to-day life is gonna become way more exhausting now that I’ve started dating Lucia, isn’t it?
