After apologizing to the vendor and hurriedly grabbing whatever food items were closest to us, Lucia and I walked towards the secluded courtyard.

Sadly for us, the cobblestone path that we usually took to get to the courtyard was being blocked off by a couple teachers.

Apparently, there was some sort of magical disturbance in the area that they were blocking off from the students.

In turn, Lucia just sighed and started dragging me somewhere else.

I spoke up a few seconds after we had changed direction, slightly curious about where we were going.

“So where are we headed off to right now Lucia?”

“My classroom, it’s just around the corner and tends to be pretty empty during the lunch period.”

She said, before pointing towards a clocktower that was a few blocks away from us.

“Huh that… actually doesn’t sound like that bad of an idea.”

I said, incredulously.

“Hey what’s with that tone?”

She said, while squinting her crimson eyes at me.

“Well, you’re not really the type to come up with good ideas.”

I replied, with suspicion evident in my voice.

“Oh fuck off!”

Lucia retorted while being slightly irritated.

A few minutes later, we arrived at the door of the Abjuration classroom.

It didn’t sound as if the room was empty.

I knew there had to be some sort of caveat!

“Hey Lucia…whatever happened to the room being empty during lunchtime?”

“Ah right…forgot that some people were gonna do some extra credit work today.”

In response, I just groaned.

“Oh don’t give me that, it’s not like you had any better ideas.”

“What are you talking about? I had 3 that were definitely better than yours.”

“Well then maybe you should’ve pitched them before we got here idiot.”

She replied, before opening the door.

The second she opened the door, the students that were currently in the classroom dropped what they were doing and turned to the both of us.

Luckily for me, most of the attention was centered around Lucia.

“What’s she doing here?”

“Maybe she’s just here to get some extra credit?”

“What would she need extra credit for? She’s gotten full marks on every assignment we’ve done so far.”

“More likely, she’s here because she wants to mess up somebody.”

“Did someone in the class piss her off today?”

“No shit, that happens everyday.”

“Didn’t Marie say that she was gonna spy on Lucia this morning?”

“I thought I told you to tell Marie to tone it down a little with all the stalking!”

“I did but she wouldn’t listen to me!”

“We're all gonna die here.”

“I knew I should’ve started writing my will earlier-”

“Hey, can you guys just shut up for a few seconds?”

Lucia interjected in an exasperated tone, after getting a bit fed up with the chatter.

“Look, the only reason I’m here right now is that the place where I usually have lunch is currently off limits to students. So relax.”

The moment those words left her mouth, there was a collective sigh of relief.

In turn, Lucia lead me to a table that was in the back corner of the classroom.

Then we just started unraveling the food items that we had snatched from the food vendor.

At a first glance it seemed as if we both had grabbed the same things, bottles of lemonade and roast beef sandwiches.

But upon closer inspection, there was one glaring discrepancy.

“Hey Otto, swap sandwiches with me. This one’s got tomatoes in it.”

She said, with a bit of disgust in her voice.

“Can’t you just take the tomatoes out?”

I remarked, before stopping myself from putting my roast beef sandwich in my mouth.

“I’d still taste the tomato residue that the tomatoes stuck to the side of the bread.”

“And I thought I was supposed to be the one with the weak constitution.”

I replied sardonically, before swapping sandwiches with Lucia.

“Whatever…by the way did you ever get to read the book that I recommended to you last week?”

She said while taking a bite of the sandwich I just handed her.

“Don’t talk with your mouth full and yeah I got about halfway through it during class today.”

“Wait, hold on, your teacher just lets you read during class?”

Lucia remarked, after she finished chewing.

“If we’re not doing much that day, yeah.”

“Okay I was half joking before, but seriously which deity did you sell your soul to in return for such an easy life?”

“Come on, my life ain’t that perfect.”

I said before taking off the cap of my bottle of lemonade and gulping down a good amount of its contents.

“What more could you possibly want? A fuckin check for a million dros?”

“Dros? What’s that?”

I replied, slightly confused.

“You know? Money? The thing that keeps the world running?”

Lucia said with a bit of a condescending tone.

“Ah right.”

“You can be so scatterbrained sometimes.”

“As if that means anything coming from you.”

I said snidely before leaning back in my chair.

You're literally the last person I'd want to hear that from, I've seen you mistake ink pens for jerky.

“You really like pissing me off don’t you?”

Lucia remarked, with a tired look on her face.

“I mean it’s pretty entertaining, so yeah.”

I countered.

A few moments later the bells chimed and the lunch period came to a close.

“It’s that time already huh?”

Lucia said after finishing the last bit of her lemonade.

“Guess so. I’ll see ya later Lucia, if you don’t end up in a penitentiary before then that is.”

I remarked, before getting up and stuffing my trash in a nearby bin.

“Same to you.”

Then I just exited the clocktower and tried to get on with the rest of my day.

Unfortunately I was stopped in my tracks a few minutes later by a couple Abjuration class students.

Which was slightly jarring, considering that none of them really even acknowledged my presence when I had first come in contact with them.

Guess my luck finally ran out.

“What do you guys want?”

“Could you drop by the Abjuration classroom more often?”

“Huh? what for?”

“To keep Lucia in check, obviously. You’re one of the few people who can actually hold a conversation with her, without her going for her wand every few seconds.”

"...I feel as if you guys are exaggerating a little... but sure why not, I mean it's not like you’re asking me to do much-"

"Thanks, you're a lifesaver."

They interjected, before parting ways with me.

Leaving me a bit bewildered about the whole exchange.
