Chapter 20 - Extra: What She Left Behind (Part 2)

A man wearing an aristocratic attire, with a cape over his shoulders, is sitting behind his desk as he looks towards another person in front of him.

His gaze seems uninterested at first, but you could see the eagerness to hear the information the other person has, as the caped man perks his ears up, and taps his desk constantly.

"Fredrick, has the reports come in yet? It's been nearly four days since Felice was found, I'm sure that's more than enough time for the knights to investigate the Korkus forest" The man narrows his eyes, changing from indifference to a cold emptiness within a single second "I'm curious to know what thing has the guts to kill one of our country's most important knights"

If he could get his hands on the culprit, you could only imagine what the prince would do. The person that was killed wasn't someone any normal person could afford to mess with.

Felice was a rare type of person for Edward, a person that could catch his interest with her pure honest disposition and indifferent views on people.

Her attitude wasn't something the two-faced Edward rarely sees, most people he encountered always wears a mask over their true feelings, and to have such a person die without his consent, you could only imagine the glint of murderous intent behind his calm eyes

Fredrick tried to be professional and keep his calm, but he couldn't stop his body's natural reaction, resulting in cold sweat dripping from his forehead as he replied to his scary master

"Your highness, we do have a report, but it seems to not be that informative, their isn't really any solid information about the killer"

The prince straightened up his sitting posture, creasing his brows

"Are the kingdom's knights this useless in work involving investigation methods? Do they only think with their muscles? I gu-"

Immediately realizing that ranting wasn't useful, the prince sighed and changed the topic "Just tell me everything that has been found out"

"There isn't an identity for the person who attacked Miss Ephitira, but we have concluded that there were more than just two people within the area"

Edward raised his brows looking confused "Multiple assailants?"

"No, It would seem that at most one person engaged Miss Ephitira in combat,Two sets of footprints could be found moving sporadically in the scene, one being from Miss Ephitira, and the other being the assailant's"

Fredrick continued on "We did find someone else's footprints but it looked like the person in question had stayed in one area during the fight, he either was a non combatant or a long ranged assailant, but the former is more likely since there are no signs of arrows and magic involved"

"Have you found the identity of the third person? Was he on the same side of the person who attacked Felice?, or just a bystander?"

Fredrick feeling nervous and ashamed looked away from Edward's eyes "No, we haven't found out who the third person is yet, but we will probably find out more information in due time"

"..." Silence enveloped the room as Edward didn't say a word, just expressionlessly looking at Fredrick.

-------

After the minutes that felt like his last hours of life, Fredrick was excused by Edward as he changed his focus back into completing his paperwork.

Fredrick could finally release the breath he has been holding when facing the calm eyes of his master.

He knew his master the best, The outgoing attitude he shows in front of other people is only used to hide the real emotions in his head.
