Chapter 16 - Unexpected Discovery

Joshua collects himself and looks up only to see the charging boar. He quickly gets up and uses about half of his stored light elements to flash brightly, distracting the boar causing it to stagger mid charge, barely allowing for Joshua to get out of the line of attack.

Though it was during the day and Joshua's flash was not really effective, if it was bright enough then there would be some effect.

With Joshua avoiding the charge, the boar hits right into the giant tree stunning itself.

Joshua was not one to let go of a golden opportunity such as this. He takes the chance to claw and maul out the boar's remaining eye leaving it blind.

With the boar blind there was not much chance of it surviving. Joshua slowly whittled down at its defenses biting its neck and retreating.

In no time at all the boar had fallen.

'That was tough. I might have overestimated myself a bit, but I will need to continue to fight like this if I want to rank up again.'

Joshua takes a breath and snacks a bit on the boar before he heads away. He won't be able to finish the boar before other creatures attracted to the smell of blood and signs of battle comes.

If a tier 3 or higher creature comes then there is no hope of Joshua making it out alive. He leaves and in what felt like an hour he hears flowing water.

Joshua heads to the sound with the purpose of grabbing a drink and washing up.

He uses up most of what's left of his light elements to help heal the minor injuries from being slammed into the tree while heading to the water source.

When he finally reached the sound he finds a river. Joshua looks around for any creatures then goes in for a drink and washing the blood off him while he was at it.

'Maybe this is the river leading to the Yaban field and village. It is flowing in that general direction anyways.'

After freshening up Joshua decides he still has plenty of time to continue exploring before he has to begin to head back to make it in time for sunset.

But before that Joshua checks his gains from the little skirmish he had with the wild boar.

'So little gains even after the risk I took? It looks like it's going to be a lot harder for me to quickly rank up unless I achieve something big. Of course I can also take my time, but the faster I become stronger the better.'

'That way I will have a foothold in this new world. On the brighter side of things my Light Absorption skill leveled up. Maybe I can store more light elements now.'

'I should store up and save on the light elements now so that I can use it at night when the wolves come.'

Having finished with his check up he continues on his little adventure.

...

Three hours have passed and Joshua has had two more little skirmishes during that time. For enemies that looked too strong or required too much effort (Josh is trying to save his light elements) he avoided. For ones that he felt to be only tier 1 or on the weaker side tier 2 Joshua would go in for the kill.

One of them was a 2 star tier 1 Horned Rabbit requiring little to no effort and acted as a nice snack for Josh.

The second was a 2 star small orange cat that had four ears whom Joshua thought was also tier 1, but was proven wrong when he experienced the cat's fierce speed, agility, and reaction speed.

The cat was actually a tier 2 creature. If not for Joshua catching it off guard with his light shroud skill, letting Josh kill it in one bite(the cat didn't have strong defenses like the boar), the fight would have been hard fought.

That experience taught Josh to not judge a book by its cover. Though the experience was not for nought as it thought Josh to observe carefully before deciding to attack.

This came in especially handy when he found a 1 star little blue pig that had its eyes squinted tightly. Joshua at the beginning was about to pounce and snack on the little piglet, but was reminded of his experience with the four eared cat.

He decided to wait and watch some more just in case, and boy was he right. Soon the piglet looked like it sniffed something strange and was going to sneeze. This was all cool and dandy until it freaking sneezed a RAGING FIRESTORM!

The pig sneezed out a blue flame reaching higher than the tallest tree and reaching the length of a football field incinerating all in its path. The fire soon died down, but Joshua already dipped at that point with cold sweat soaking his fur.

Joshua remembers thinking,'What the actual f***! That little thing has to be at least tier 3 or 4 and might even have the blessing of a god! Not only that, but it's only a 1 star life form, being born that way!' Joshua once again realized the unfairness of life.

Anyways coming back to the present, it has been three hours and Joshua still feels that he can store a little more light elements. This meant that his storage capacity really did increase lightening up his mood.

It was then that he noticed a mix of sounds in the distance. Joshua approaches slowly and was able to confirm that the sounds are a mess of multiple screams, growls, and grunts.

Joshua snuck up closer to have a look at what was going on and saw a small village of little ugly green creatures being raided by a group of what looked to be yellow fat pigmen.

'Damn... they are are both ugly as hell...' was the first thought that came into Joshua's mind when he saw this scene.
