Chapter 10 - 10: The McMillan Family

Once interval had started Lisa and Brian exited the greenhouse to meet the others when they heard Edward's voice shout, "Lisa!"

Lisa couldn't be bothered to care about Edward then so she just ignored him and held Brian's hand so he wouldn't stop walking.

"Um Lisa... Is it really okay to ignore him?" Asked Brian.

"It will be fine", smiled Lisa.

Meanwhile Edward couldn't help but feel a fire within him ignite as he watched the two. He got his phone out and told Philip he wouldn't be able to hang out with him at interval, then he made his way to the abandoned shed.

He decided to plan for the contract and contact the lawyer who would be helping him so he contacted the one and only... Steven Shelton. You see the company Lisa's father works for is... Let's just say it is as big as Edward's and both of those companies work together a lot, and while helping out his family Edward met Steven.

Steven is probably one of Edward's most favourite lawyers and he knew he could trust Steven with his... Business problems. So he quickly phoned Steven up and after the tenth ring he finally picked up.

"Second young master of the famous Luxit IT company why in the world do you need to bother me right now?" Sighed Steven. He was in the middle of a meeting when his phone suddenly went off. Luckily he always puts it on silent before entering a meeting; especially when with higher ups.

"Sorry did I call at a bad time?" Asked Edward.

"Yes but the meeting is over now so what do you want".

"Well I was hoping you could help me with something. Of course I will pay you so don't worry about that but you will have to keep a big secret".

"Hmm".

Steven figured this was about the contract with Lisa, and that the secret was about him failing miserably when it came to helping the company without anyone telling him what to do. Although he had a wicked idea and said, "sure. What do you need help with?"

"Well I need to form a contract on a few things..."

"Well in that case how about we meet at (Lisa's address) at 5:30 pm today?"

"That would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the help".

"What do you mean I have not done anything yet. Anyway see you at (Lisa's address)".

"Goodbye".

Steven hung up then called another number and suddenly Lisa's phone started vibrating. "I will be right back. Just need to take a call", said Lisa as she left her friends.

"Hello", answered Lisa.

"Lisa. You know that contract with Edward", said Steven.

"Yes".

"Do you mind if we discuss it at your place at 5:30 pm today?"

"Sure, but why my place?"

"Because your apartment is closer to the office your father and I work at. Plus you know I don't like discussing things like this in public".

"Alright then. I'll cook dinner for you too at 6 pm if you want".

"Really?"

"Yeah. Since you're not charging me I might as well cook for you".

"Yes! Thanks Lisa. Your cooking is the best!"

"Only because you never eat homemade food. Unlike restaurants foods homemade food has this special taste when made by someone close to you".

"Well my family live in another country and I have busy friends okay. Anyway see you at five thirty".

"See you".

Steven hung up and leaned back in his chair. He smiled as he thought about what might happen next when suddenly his secretary entered the room and said, "Lester Tael wishes to see you".

"Lisa's father. Why does he want to see me?" Questioned Steven.

"He did not say why".

"Alright then I'll go see him now".

Steven made his way Lester's office to see him reading a piece of paper with interest showing on his face. "Well hi Lester... So what did you call me for?" Asked Steven.

"Edward Avington and my daughter are forming a contract in exchange for lessons right?" Said Lester.

"Yes; she just contacted me yesterday about it. I believe Edward's family has been informed of it too".

"Indeed. They also know the truth behind my position and with ,my wife being close to Edward's mother, Juliet Avington they have decided to host a dinner for our two families tomorrow night".

"Well is that so..."

"Yes. And if I am correct you are helping both Lisa and Edward with the contract".

"Wait I understand helping with Lisa, but how did you know I was going to help Edward too?"

"Edward told his father and he told me".

"Oh... I see".

"I expect for you to make sure things go right otherwise it is not only Lisa who will be chasing after you. Don't for get my wife is not only Christine Tael, but also Christine McMillan. Former 1st place for two years running in Wellington Rosalyn College on the intellect leader board, daughter of the President of McMillan Group, and my son Charles who is going to be the next president of the McMillan Group in the future. Despite being a university student he seems to have also inherited his grandfather's business skills".

"Yes yes I understand. Do not betray Lisa or your whole family will come after me got it. Well if that's all see ya".

Steven exited the room and Lester thought about his family. The truth is Lisa's mother is actually from one of the top families, but as she grew older she wanted to leave her family and live a normal life so once fulfilling her duty as a perfect daughter she disappeared and told her parents that she will marry someone of lower class who she loves. That she won't accept any support from them and that she will keep her relationship with McMillan Group a secret from her kids. If they wanted to meet them they would have to look like normal grandparents.

Christine's mother and father accepted on the terms that at least one kid will know the truth and inherit the enterprise in the future since Christine was their only daughter. She agreed and said that they will reveal the truth to everyone once the youngest child has graduated high school.

They later on had two kids and named Charles who was older than Lisa by five years the heir. He studied since young to become the next president while trying his best hide everything from Lisa. Despite having the academics to gain a scholarship to Wellington Rosalyn College he refused and instead went to a public school to avoid suspicion. Once his sister graduated he would change his last name to McMillan and be dubbed as the heir to McMillan Group while his mother gave up her normal life and his father would go onto another position and help out Charles's grandparents with managing everything.

Charles is not sure how everyone would react to this, especially his sister but he is ready for when it all happens.

-Charles POV-

I am currently attending a prestigious university as I wait for my sister to graduate. In order for there to be no doubt when the truth is released I studied hard and have been at the top ever since I turned thirteen. With people's views on my father's achievements, my mother's academics and my sister's along with the other proof there should be no doubt about everything.

The only thing I have left to do currently is graduate this year and then the waiting game.

Well at least that was what I thought before my sister who had our grandparents blood running through them decided to make a deal with the second son of the Avington family. Right now all I can think of is, what if that Philip Lockwood interferes?

While the McMillan and Lockwood families have had a close bond for generations they still beat us on the leader board with them first and us second, and their son doesn't now about what is currently going on within our family. Only the parents know and I can't really threaten him without people getting suspicious.

I sighed as I sat in a cafe; drinking some coffee. Although in the end if Edward and Philip do anything to my precious Lisa I will make sure they don't see the light of day again. I will also use it as a chance to bring Lisa back home. A brother needs a sister's love once in a while! [Author's note, pretend like as if I am saying this in a sales person voice: The bro is a sis-con. Come back in either one or two more chapters to see more]

-Back at Wellington Rosalyn College, Lisa's perspective-

The day went on like any normal day. We all went to the classes we would normally have on a Tuesday for the following periods and there was no drama to speak of. I decided to do more of the real life story at the party this Saturday so for now I will let things unravel itself, and while that is going on I'm just going to sit back and watch.

Eventually 4:20 came and I made my way home by myself as Sophie was busy with her usual work. Since I had already finished my book I just simply stared out of the window of the bus which is quite nice once in a while. The scenery, people having fun, it's all nice to see.

I smiled as I remembered I'm going to be staying with my family in the weekend. I will have to admit I was annoyed at first, but at least I get to stay with them again. I wonder how my brother is going with university. I had always wondered why he never applied for a scholarship to Wellington Rosalyn College despite having the academics. Yet he applied for a scholarship to the best and most prestigious university in the country. Seriously what is he thinking?

Ah well I guess he didn't really care about most of the things they teach us before university. Well anyway when he graduates there is no doubt he is going to get scouted by a company right away... I wonder if he is going to be a CEO in the future.

My brother sure is one of a kind. What would happen if I introduced him to Philip. The invitation did say we could bring a family member along if we wanted to.

Eventually I got off at the bus stop and walked back to my apartment. When I got in I changed into my casual clothes and prepared the ingredients for dinner when I suddenly got a call from Steven.

"Hello", I said.

"Lisa do you mind if I invite another person over. He's a new lawyer and he asked me for some help and I would feel bad rejecting him", replied Steven.

"I don't know. What if he grows into a bad person in the future and uses the information he learns from this to blackmail us in the future".

"Don't worry! I will make sure it doesn't happen".

"Fine then. I trust your judgement so you better not disappoint".

"Got it! Bye!"

He hung up the phone and I could only sigh. I hope the new lawyer doesn't get weirded out by him too much. I also hope Steven doesn't do this with other clients.

In the end I prepared extra ingredients and 5:30 pm came.

-Third person POV-

Edward got out of the car and looked at the apartment complex. It was expensive, but he didn't think Steven would be the type to live here when he has enough money to afford a better place. He is also quite known to want the best so Edward figured this is another home he uses secretly.

On his way up he bumped into Steven and said, "did you just get out of work?"

"Yep!" Replied Steven.

"It is also quite nice of you to make dinner. I didn't know you were able to cook".

"Actually I'm not cooking. Someone else is".

Edward raised an eyebrow and asked, "who?"

"You will find out soon".

Eventually they reached Lisa's apartment and knocked on the door for it to be opened by a Lisa who surprised Edward.

"Steven may I ask why there is a high school student here instead of a lawyer?" Questioned Lisa.

"Aw thank you for the compliment. It's good to know I still look young", answered Steven cheerfully.

"Steven", said Lisa in a low voice.

"Okay okay. You both asked me for help so here I am. To help you two! Plus you two know I wouldn't make one person have more than the other person. Plus it's not like Philip is here so all is fine. Really all you two have to do is decide on the terms and I can just do the rest!" Smiled Steven.

Lisa sighed and said, "at least there is less work. Come in".

Edward wasn't sure of what to think of when he found out it was Lisa's apartment they were going to. Well this was what Steven meant when he said someone else would be doing the cooking.

But Edward did think this was quite nice. He got to see her apartment which looked nice and cozy. The place didn't seem to have a theme yet it all fitted in well with each other. Although the apartment wasn't the only thing about Lisa he got to see... He got to see her casual wear.

He couldn't help but think of how cute Lisa was in her over sized t-shirt which covered 97% of her shorts. Edward couldn't help but picture her in... Shhh, use your imagination to guess what he is thinking.

'F**k why am I thinking this way. Am I falling for this schemy girl?!' Thought Edward as his mind turned into a whirlpool.

While that was going on Lisa led them to the lounge and placed some sweets and fruit on the table. She then asked for what drink they would like and Steven replied with iced coffee while Edward said, "just water is fine".

Lisa couldn't help but wonder why Edward was acting so weirdly and guessed it must be because of her outfit. When she bought an over sized t-shirt it ended up much bigger than she had expected and the shorts she was currently wearing was the longest ones she had. Although at the same time it's not really much for Edward to act weirdly. Honestly what goes on through that boy's mind.
