Long Past Dawn

Chapter 5 - 5~ Midnight Meeting

After I unsuccessfully tried to calm myself down I fall into a hazy sleep where I can hear everything and everyone in the city, but I can't hear what one person is saying it's all just mashed together.

I must have stayed like that for hours until I finally heard something, it was a sound like something tapping on the glass. I wake up and look around, I'm still in my room, and I'm lying slumped on my bed, I jump out of bed to see what's making that noise, in my rush I vaguely see my alarm clock displaying 12:02. Great, it's past midnight.

I start to think that maybe it's a bird tapping at its reflection in the window or some drunk throwing pebbles at windows, either way, I'll kill them for waking me up at midnight.

I walk over to the window, stepping over the clothes that litter the ground. Pulling back the heavy curtains I expect to see little pebbles or a bird but no. There are literally two people crouched in front of my window. I fight back a scream before I recognize the two figures as some of my favorite heroes that I don't know how many times I've drawn into my sketchbooks. It's Batman and Robin.

With a shaky hand, I open the window. "Come with us." Is all he says before disappearing with Robin.

...How the hell am I supposed to follow you? Teleport? Fly? As soon as I think the world fly it's as if a switch in my brain was hit.

More of that translucent crystal-like objects form together on my back to from almost a pair of angel-like wings. I gape at them, where the hell did they come from?! I'm lost in thought while looking at the wings before I remember I have to catch up to Batman. Man the things I think I'll never say.

I think I'll give these wings a shot. I walk over to the window and lift myself up so I'm crouching in the window frame and I do the most stupid thing ever, I jump. I fall for about a second where I think I'm going to end up as a Dawn pancake on the sidewalk before these crazy wings do their job.

I stare at the ground below me, I'm floating in the air. I turn to look behind me and the wings are beating, keeping me in place. I can feel muscles in my back I never knew I had moving in time with the wings. If I'm able to control the muscles I'm able to control my flight pattern? Is that how it works?

I fall onto my stomach, still in the air, and focus on moving in a forward direction where I can just see Batman. I sail forward on the wind, the wings still beating behind me.

At the time I didn't even realize that I was able to see ahead of me as if it was clear as day and not midnight on a new moon. But that was only one of the many changes to my body that I had yet to realize.

I soon recognize the direction we're headed in. It's towards Central Park.

Down below me, I can see Batman running and jumping from roof to roof. If it weren't for the cold night air I would think I was still dreaming.

Minutes later we make it into Central Park, and Batman finally stops by the Superman memorial. Well now that we're where we need to be here comes the problem of getting down again.....

I get up into a floating position and focus yet again to move back down to the ground, I'm able to get down to about five feet above the ground before the wings disappear to where ever they came from and I'm left to fall five feet to the ground. I let out a small shriek as the ground comes rising up to meet me but I somehow manage to land on my feet without my knees even buckling a little.

It's a cold night and I didn't have time to throw on my jacket so I'm shivering in my tee and hoodie, "U-ummmm how long are we g-going to b-be waiting."

"They should be here soon."

They? There's going to be more people watch me freeze my b.u.t.t off? Great.

"W-who's coming?"

"Some..... colleagues of mine."

Colleagues? Wait... he's Batman, that means that.....

"Calling me a colleague now? I thought we where friends batty." A voice says from behind me and my jaw almost drops.

I turn around and come face to face with the Flash in his usual costume. "Hi there beautiful,"

"H-hi...." no way no way no way no way. I'm talking to Flash, and not to mention Batman, oh god am I still dreaming?

"So batty what's with the sudden call. I mean sure I was still in the area but did it really have to be at midnight? I mean I have places to be." Flash says as he turns to Batman and speeds over so he's right in front of him.

"Since when do you have things to do?" yet another voice says behind, somehow I feel like I've heard the voice earlier today. I turn around as the Flash does at the same time, Wonderwoman had just landed in front of the Superman memorial.

Flash then speeds over to her and bows before saying, "Milady."

"Dawn Amor, am I right?" She says turning to me and completely ignoring the Flash; who pretends to act hurt by her rejection.

"Y-yeah that's right...." I say, how the hell does Wonderwoman know my name, I mean I'm a nobody. Why would someone so cool as Wonderwoman know who I am? Why would all of my favorite superheroes know who I am?

I look closer at Wonderwoman, where have I heard her voice? Then it clicks, she's Diana Prince from this morning! "M-Miss Diana? Is that you?"

Wonderwoman freezes up and I have a feeling I'm right. "So I'm right? You're Miss Diana from this morning. Wait then that means....."

I rush to cover my mouth. That's how Batman knew my address, f***... No, f***ing way.....

"That means what?" I'm so caught up in my own thought that I hardly see the new figure in front of me. I look up to see a familiar blue suit with an S emblem in the middle of it with the iconic red cape fluttering behind him in the cold night breeze. It's none other than Superman.
