Lord Of Blood

Chapter 1 - The Protagonist

A cl.i.c.k.i.n.g sound reverberated through the hallway of an empty apartment. It was the owner of the place that was coming home. The door opened and the figure entering could now be seen.

It was a male man in his 30´s. He had black hair that reached his shoulders. The framed glasses that he wore showed his emerald green eyes and those were a glaring contrast to his otherwise palish white skin. He looked rather sickly if anyone had to judge him.

The man sighed tiredly after he put his mantel on the wardrobe and loosened his tie around his neck.

Walking into his living room he sat down on his couch and used the remote to turn on the TV. But his attention was on his smartphone.

The men snorted disdainfully. "Another lucky bastard becoming a millionaire...f.u.c.k...50 million, huh?" He changed his position on the couch into a lying one and still watched on the phone.

"Having that much money would be nice. At least I would not be so f.u.c.kin annoyed by going to work every f.u.c.kin day..." he put his smartphone away and stared at the TV where some weird show is running.

"But then again, it's not like I would really enjoy it...No parents...No girlfriend...And besides that, I am also having a f.u.c.kin mid-life crisis...Damn, I am a hopeless case."

He raised his right hand and pulled his sleeve a little back to look at his wrist. Looking closely one could see many horizontal scars on it. There were even some that were going vertical along his arm. Some looked very old while others not so much.

"Come to think..." He picked up his phone again and looked at his calendar application. "I got an appointment tommorow at the good old doc...Probably just another bunch of anti-depression drugs."

With those thoughts, he kept watching TV and at some point fell asleep.

The next day it was Saturday so he had a free day but because of his psychiatrist demanding him to meet up he went ahead and made a visit there.

Sitting on the chair for the patients as always the men looked rather bored to the ceiling.

Suddenly another person entered the room.

"Good Morning, Mister Braun."

"Please, just Linus is fine. You should know by now that I hate being called by my family name..."

The woman that was now in the room looked at Linus. She sighed a little bit. "No improvement on that it seems. Do you still think back on your school days when you hear it?"

"Yes...Anyway, can we make this short today? I am really not in the mood today."

"You know I can't do that. We wouldn't want your case to become worse because you skipped on counseling time."

Linus snorted lightly and smiled sarcastically. "And this should really help me? How long has it been now? 2 years or is it about 3 now? I don't even remember when I started."

"But you know that you started because of your aggressive behavior towards your ex-girlfriend, right?"

Linus stayed silent after he heard that and looked away from the woman that was his psychiatrist.

The woman smiled. "You do want to have a family, right? So we have to fix those emotional instabilities you have. Harming your loved ones and later having tendencies towards self-harm because of guilt...Well, we made a lot of progress, no? Now you live in society again and even got a job. It is a much better place than the clinic you were in the first year."

"I guess..." Linus closed his eyes. He wanted to talk back that his life was nowhere good nor did he really enjoy it at all but he was just too tired of it.

And with that he let it all happen. Time flew by and he stood in his own bathroom. As he predicted he got 3 different kinds of anti.depression drugs. They were neatly put near the mirror.

Sighing Linus took them all. At least when he was on drugs the euphoric feeling inside him kept him away from thinking bad stuff.

But it is a sad way to live one's life. There is really nothing but suffering. It was already a good thing he parted ways with his old love.

He couldn't hurt her anymore. But thinking about it made him sad and tears started to flow down his face. "Shit...These f.u.c.kin drugs don't work at all..." sniffing he looked back up into the mirror and saw his face.

Suddenly a shadow was there and smiled creepily at him. That made Linus angry and he smashed the mirror. His knuckles were bleeding from the cuts and the blood ran down the broken glass into the sink.

"F.u.c.k you....F.u.c.k OFF!!" He screamed now.

Suddenly there was a knocking noise heard from above his apartment "SHUT UP YOU PSYCHO!!"

That brought Linus back and he looked up. "Right...thin walls..."

He took some bandages and took care of his wound. Then he went back to his boring routine and started to watch TV.

At some point, his eyes started to hurt and he rubbed them. But the pain only intensified and increased over his whole body.

The pain was so intense that he started to scream. He also wanted to call an ambulance because he knew something was up with him but his body wouldn't listen and he only stumbled over the small table and fell to the floor.

His heart just stopped and he could slowly feel his conscious fading.

´That´s it, huh? Well, at least this shit life is over now...´ He didn't really regret it. Now that he was dying even after trying to stay alive he felt it was alright. There was nothing that held him to this life after all. But he wondered what that last spark in him was that reached toward life.

His guess was that every being reaches to light as long as it can.

Sometime later he opened his eyes again and looked around. Seeing that he was in a psychiatrist's room he got agitated and angry. "What...the...f.u.c.k. Are you trying to f.u.c.k with me!? Telling me that even after death I will have to visit this shit!!?"

"Not really. This is only the place you visited most in the last few years in your free time. That is why it was chosen." A melodious voice echoed from the desk on the other side of the room.

"Now, Linus Braun, correct? 24, single, suicidal. Hmmm." It was a woman in a white suit that was normally only worn by people working in administrative jobs. Her long silver hair and those golden eyes sure screamed holy and divine. Her beauty was also not bad. It was breathtaking even.

"Well, according to the doc.u.ments we expected you to kill yourself. Lucky you. You died of an overdose of pills that didn't harmonize well with each other. So it was not suicide but an accident. That makes you a rare case. Normally whatever we dictate also happens."

Linus looked at her and frowned. "...And?", he asked in confusion.

The woman smiled. "I am the goddess responsible for you now. Nice to meet you. To make this short." She looked at the doc.u.ments. "We will give you another chance at life. Come here and chose, will ya?"

"No."

The goddess that was already sorting the possible worlds for him after saying her words stopped and looked back up at him. "What?"

"I said no...Now that..." Linus looked around. "....I am dead. I don't want to live again."

The goddess started to laugh. "You are a funny one. You nearly got me there. Now come here."

"I am not joking!" Linus shouted now.

The smile on the Goddess's face vanished and she looked at him with a stern face now. "You really would throw away such a chance?" She sighed. "I guess the others did warn me that suicidal freaks like you are hard to convince. Cant I make it more appealing to you? Do you want to have happiness in live maybe? I could arrange your luck to be better in your next life."

"No...life is just a pain in the arse. I am sorry that you have to go through with my selfish demand."

Now the goddess became angry and her eyes became somewhat teary. "NO! I will not become a laughing stock in my first case! Since you don't want to choose then I will do so! Maybe after your journey your gloomy attitude will also change!"

"Huh!? Hey, wait, don't!" Linus shouted back but it was too late.

Darkness was enveloping him and he started his new journey.

The Goddess looked at him departing with puffed cheeks. Then she wrote something on his paper.

"Was that really necessary?", asked another figure now from the side.

"Ah! Sensei!" The Goddess seemed to be in peril now after being caught.

The man with blue eyes framed by glasses and blond hair stared at her. "It´s fine...Look he already accepted."

The Goddess looked at the paper again and smirked "Hehe, that´s good...but wait...what is this? He already wasted 2 of his 3 resets!? What the hell did he do?"

She read some information and paled. "Oh no....I think I made a mistake. sensei what should I do!?" She asked with tears the older man.

But to her surprise, he was already gone "Gah!?"
