Chapter 76- Fate of Monarch Eyes Part 3

Translated by Snowfall77

Chu Yao’s face turned red: “……what are you going on about?”

Xia Ge tilted her head: “I’ve already said it.”

“Because……it’s you, because they’re your eyes.”  Emphasizing the word ‘you,’ Xia Ge sighed deeply, “That’s why they’re truly beautiful.”

——Not because of bandit chief Chu Shi, not because of Empress Chu, not because of anyone else.

You are simply you, Chu Yao.

And that is how you can live beautifully.

Once you understand that you are just yourself, you can truly live a brilliant, glorious life of your own.

Chu Yao, staring into the boy’s face, meeting his dark eyes, felt her heart skip a beat.

“They’re mine……”

Xia Ge nodded: “Yes, only yours.”

It took a long time for Chu Yao to regain her senses and notice the way Xia Wuyin had one knee on the table.

“You……”  Chu Yao heard how unsteady her voice was, “……are you a runt or not?”

Xia Ge: “……

System: [Pfft…….]

After a sharp laugh, Xia Ge nimbly got off the table, sat back down, and expressionlessly poured herself another cup of wine, ‘quiet as a chicken.’

Never again will she try to comfort someone.

Apparently she wasn’t cut out for it.

Suffocation.

Still trying to conceal that inexplicable feeling she’d had a moment ago, Chu Yao snorted when she saw Xia Wuyin’s sullen expression, saying: “What, was I wrong?  You are short.”

Xia Ge: “……”

Whoever is footing the bill……what they say goes.  Remember, Xia Ge, remember, you can’t hit her.  No hitting people.

Maintaining her poker-face, Xia Ge said: “Maybe you’re drunk, but come on, let’s have another one.”

That odd feeling finally banished, Chu Yao noted Xia Wuyin’s impassiveness and wondered if she’d been too excessive with her words before: “Ah, are you angry with me?”

Xia Ge’s voice was tinged with cold: “Dare not be, dare not.”

Chu Yao wasn’t convinced: “Then you’ll smile?”

Who can’t smile?

Xia Ge instantly plastered on a fake smile.

Lowering her gaze for a second, Chu Yao decided to follow Xia Wuyin’s example.  But, unlike Xia Wuyin, Chu Yao didn’t need to kneel on the table.  All she had to do was stretch out a hand, brush the hair aside, and lean in to peer into Xia Wuyin’s eyes.

Pupils retracting, Xia Ge wanted to shrink back, but Chu Yao’s hand pressed down on her shoulder.

“Hmm, your smile doesn’t look genuine,” Chu Yao’s tone was hard, but then it softened, “You’re good-looking though.”

Xia Ge’s body was slightly rigid: “You’re really drunk, huh?”

Chu Yao laughed lowly: “……I must be, because the more I look at you, the more I think you’re effeminate.”

Crash——

From not far off came the sound of something breaking.  Xia Ge craned her head around to look, but saw nothing.  Turning back around, Xia Ge kept her face blank, ignoring the hand still on her shoulder: “Mmm, since you’re drunk, perhaps you should rest for a while.”

""

Chu Yao chuckled: “Ha, I’m not drunk——alright, maybe I’m a little drunk.”

Leaning closer to Xia Ge’s ear, Chu Yao’s voice was low and hoarse: “Therefore, if you have anything you want to ask me, go ahead and ask it.  No need to hide, I’m too tired to guard against you.”

Body stiff, Xia Ge acted diffident: “I don’t have anything I want to ask……haha, why would I hide it if I did……”

Chu Yao retracted her hand and stood up: “If you don’t ask, I’m going to leave.”

“Ai, don’t leave,” Xia Ge supported her forehead with one hand, “Why are you being so obvious?  Have some tact.”

However Chu Yao was too lazy to hide her impatience.  Sneering, she pointed at the empty wine jars on the table: “Tactful my ass, that’s three jars.”

“After drinking three jars, I’ve said everything I want to say.  But what about you?”

Seeing Xia Ge’s ‘how did you ever figure it out’ expression, Chu Yao frowned: “I knew you had something you wanted to ask me, otherwise you wouldn’t have agreed so readily to come drinking with me.  Tell me, what is it?”

Surprised, Xia Ge asked: “Did I act eager to come out with you?”

System: [People Aren’t Blind.]

Chu Yao: “I’m not blind.

Xia Ge: “……”

Danfeng had evening classes.

Despite not being drunk, Xia Ge knew she smelled of alcohol.  After Chu Yao said her farewells, Xia Ge rushed home, cleaned up, changed into another set of her Danfeng clothes, and went to class.

The class was very simple, similar to a modern day evening study hall, where one was simply supposed to review what the teachers had said during the day.

And since they were still in the theoretical learning stage of Danfang, there was no actual doing anything with a furnace.  Which meant the evening class was very easy for Xia Ge.

When she slipped in, the Master wasn’t there.  Mao Qing’s seat was close to Xia Ge’s though, and as soon as she saw Xia Ge arriving, Mao Qing waved and whispered: “Ai, you’re back?”

Having skulked to her seat in full view of everyone, Xia Ge was suffering from a guilty conscience.  She was still slightly damp from having washed up, and her red ribbon was slightly awry: “Mmm, I’m back.”

“Ai, why did Senior Chu come for you today?” Mao Qing was very curious.

Xia Ge gave Mao Qing a somewhat surprised look, finding it unexpected that Mao Qing’s tone could be so good-natured when it came to a person of Jianfeng.

Mao Qing knew what Xia Ge was thinking as soon as she caught the expression on Xia Ge’s face.  Scratching her head, Mao Qing explained: “Senior Chu might be from Jianfeng, but she’s different from those other Jianfeng people.”

She paused, then continued whispering: “Even though her temper isn’t very good, everyone truly likes her.”

Xia Ge remembered when the demon puppets had attacked the village.  Not one other person from Jianfeng had come down.  Only Chu Yao had put herself in harm’s way.  Thinking about it, Mao Qing’s feelings were understandable.

——See?  You don’t always live under the shadow of that glorious ancestor.

At least in Jianfeng, you are you.

“She just asked me to go have some fun with her.”  Xia Ge didn’t dare mention the drinking, “It wasn’t anything important.”

“Oh.”  Mao Qing, seeing that Xia Ge didn’t want to elaborate, asked no further questions.
