Lumina Church: From An Assassin To A Nun

Chapter 4 - A-Ranked Adventurer Enmi

Calmarosh Theocracy — One of the strongest human nations that have stood in this world for 500 years. Many nations have comes to declare war on them in these past 500 years, yet they still stood tall with their might and strength for all to see. One of the reasons for that is because of their unity as a human being.

The God they worship, Imalios is a God that promotes unity and supremacy of all human under his religious flag. He looks down on all Demi-human or creatures that are not human as they're imperfect.

For him, all other creatures other than human are only there to make human looks great, all of them are just there to become a pawn for humans to rise in this world and it's also the reason why discrimination of Demi-human is the harshest in this nation.

Demi-human suffering is everyday scenes in this city, and no one even cares if there's demi-human dying or tortured on the road except traveler.

Children would usually sympathize with someone when they saw them suffering, demi-human or not. Yet the child of Calmarosh Theocracy will only laugh if they saw Demi-human suffer and it's also the reason why most demi-human in the vicinity love to kidnap human children and let them feel the feeling of being the one who's suffering.

That is also the reason why the neighboring Were beast Kingdom — Barbansha Kingdom, have human slavery.

Barbansha Kingdom the kingdom governed by Were beast — the demi-humans who're similar with humans with an additional bestial part on their body, located south to Calmarosh Theocracy, has been fighting the Theocracy for the last 200 years.

Although they called themselves Were beast, In truth, they come from various demi-human races such as Dog-kin, Cat-kin, Lion-kin, Rabbit-kin, Tiger-kin, Cow-kin, Horse-kin, and many other. Even so, they choose to adopt the term Were beast, betraying their ancestor hope, to becomes more united than against the human nation who grows in power.

Barbansha Kingdom once prided in not taking slaves, like those cursed human races. Yet, because of Calmarosh Kingdom conduct in treating slaves, Barbansha citizen becomes angry and plea the current king to enable human slavery. In fear of a riot, the King of Barbansha Kingdom finally yields and allowed human slavery which in turn make the hatred between human and demi-human grow.

Calmarosh Theocracy and Barbansha Kingdom both have a mercenary group inside their country. A group, different than an adventurer and will work for anything no matter how bad it is as long as they got paid.

For those mercenary groups, the fight between both Kingdoms ensures safe profit for them. Kidnapping their own citizen and exchange it with the neighboring nation's mercenary group while getting paid with extra money for their quick job, always makes those mercenaries who specializes in kidnapping lead a happy life.

If someone were to ask who is the human that's most friendly with Demi-human in Calmarosh Theocracy, their answer would be those mercenaries in charge of kidnapping their own citizen. But of course, that's only if they knew about these secret dealings, and the only one who knows about their secret dealings wouldn't even mention it.

Why?

Because the only one knows about them are those slave trader!

No matter how perfect these mercenaries kidnapping technique is, some human or demi-human that got kidnapped will know that their own races kidnap them and that information will enter the slave trader ears. Then, would slave traders like them tell their nations about this?

Definitely NOT!

Although they're there because of their nations support, they as a slave trader wouldn't do something as stupid as cutting their own goose before it finished laid all of its egg.

In their shops, weak half human half demi-human sold cheap to the buyer, most wouldn't like them because they're only half, but there's, fortunately, a buyer for that.

They also have prisoner of war which they can gain on Calmarosh Theocracy annual war with their neighboring nations which are not really popular, but many would still buy them as their slaves, to be used as meat shields.

And... the most profit they earn definitely comes from the child that got kidnapped by those mercenaries, the child that didn't know what exactly happens before finally face the ultimate despair this world can give.

And that's where Villia Lainiesta will go today, the second most important city in Calmarosh Theocracy.

Supply City Variesz.

The city nearest to the border of 2 neighboring demi-human nation and 1 human nation which is Barbansha Kingdom, Elven Union, and Lowenheirtz Kingdom if one were to ignore the fortress that's placed in respectively south, east, and west of Variesz City.

Supply city Variesz, it's a city with the second most protected city, second most number of knights and second most important city in Calmarosh Theocracy.

It's also a city that functions as supply lines at times of war, and it's also the city which will act as the second-line-in-defense against the invading nations if one of the fortresses got breached.

"Halt! Identification please!"

In front of Variesz city, two guards can be seen blocking the path of a suspicious girl that covered most of her body with black clothes from entering the city. No matter how people look at it, the words that are most fitting for her is suspicious. Not only did she cover her body with black clothes, but even her aura alone makes the guard tremble and wary of her as they're ready to attack if there's something suspicious in her movement.

The girl looks at the guards with curiosity, because regular guard wouldn't be able to stand straight, and would soon crumble. Even so, she nods her head after she observes them as she confirms that they're former knights who can't go to war anymore.

"Here."

The girl took out her adventurer guild card which can be used on most nations for identification and hand it over to the guards.

The guards are still wary of her and feel she will attack once he takes the card, even so, he decides to accept the card anyway, because this is his job, and declaring someone is suspicious without checking would only stain his name, precisely so if that person is in truth a high-ranked adventurers that can't be offended, as he would instantly lose his job because of that.

The guard takes and looks at the adventure guild card given to him, and not long after that start to mutter something before he hurriedly hands the card back to the girl and removes his spear that's blocking the girl path.

"W-We're th-thankful for for y-you to to to gr-graces our humble ci-city a visit a-a-again, Mi-mi-miss Enmi, a-and…thank you!" The guard respectfully bows at her after he says the words 'thank you' followed by his friend who also bow at her.

"Good works."

Enmi nod and give some words of encouragement to the guards before her walk straight to Variesz City. Both of the guards keeps bowing at her, even after she has gone from their sight and soon, the guard who just followed suit lift his head and ask his friend.

"Doraish, just what did you see on her card? Is she the rumored A-rank adventurer."

"A-rank adventurer, indeed she's so, but she's more than any A-rank adventurer!"

Doraish declares that while trembling. His trembling's not because of fear like before, but because of the excitement of meeting the person he respects the most in this world! He never expects he would have the chance to meet her in his life, although it's only brief.

"The fact she's here means…blood will start to flow again."

That's the only words he can give to his friend. He didn't say anything else as it would be pretty embarrassing if his prediction is wrong. But, considering her past record, blood will flow once again in this city, as she's Enmi, the girl known as Corrupt Annihilator, the killer of corrupted people who're akin to a tumor for every nation!

Remembering how she found out and assassinate Count Malt Fursehmen that has been selling his own citizens to the neighboring Lowenheirtz kingdom two years ago, rage for the dead noble and respect for her grow steadily inside of his heart. Especially because the citizens in question are his wife and child, who got kidnapped when he's at warring with the demi-human at the front line!

People think he's already died at war but he has luckily survived and gone home. He's happy that he survive and want to see his wife and daughter, yet, all that wait for him is an empty house.

His family gone, and all his neighbor know is how there's a man who talks about his death which many of his neighbor hear to his wife and ask them to go to meet his corpse. His wife in tears follow that man, but they haven't gone back yet ever since.

He searches his family on every corner of the city and even putting a request on adventure guild. Fatigue and mental attack him as he relentlessly checks for a few days. He doesn't want to go home to the empty home, but he decides to anyway as it's also a place full of memories for him and lacking rest in searching his family will prove fatal.

But opening his door, the once empty home becomes full with people again. He saw his wife, and daughter appears beside that door. Although they're skinnier than before, at least, they're alive! And it's good to be alive, which cause him to hug both of his daughter and wife.

Tears and joy envelop their family that day, and her wife also tells him how she got helped by the adventurer named Enmi which in turn make him worship her for saving his family.

Enmi or we should call her Villia, didn't know that the guards respect her heavily and even if she did, she wouldn't know who that person is as she has mostly forgotten of the number of people she has killed in these last 4 years.

Even so, not all people feel gratitude for her action as many people have also started to hate her because of it. King hate her from removing these corrupt nobles from their jobs which make other noble fights for that fief, Noble hate her for killing the merchant that usually sell them things they can't buy anywhere else, Merchant hate her for killing the thief they use to destroy farm all so that they can sell wheat at a higher price than before, and many more.

Hated or not, Villia didn't care about it, as that hatred are directed at Enmi who shouldn't exist in the first places, not her. She couldn't care less about their opinion as long as she earns her money and gets some experiences from the job.

Killing corrupted people's also prove as the best income and experience for her as they are usually guarded by a lot of guards and their secret stash can even make her drools with glee.

"I wonder what kind of job I'll take today…I hope the job is enough to promote me into Expert Assassin."

With that thought on her minds, Villia continues to walk, to the direction of the Adventure Guild.
