Chapter 34 - Mind Hall and Refugees

Upon finishing our every business, I decided to call it a day and went back to the base. Just as we were walking down the road, a delicious smell of baking bread wafted into my nose. Suddenly, there was a sound of a gurgling stomach heard near me.

I gazed at the source and found that Lillie was in the middle of touching her small lips with her finger, looking at the bread store in craving. Ah… it must have come from her. Well, the sun had passed noon so she must have been hungry.

After some consideration, I decided to go to the nearby bread store to buy a few snacks for Lillie to munch on. In any case, I didn't want her to munch me.

Subsequently, we went out of the same gate we got in. The same guard was apparently still guarding the place, thus we passed quickly and without any disturbance. Hmm… what a nice guy he is… Well, it's a gold coin after all.

Next, I went to a secluded area before taking out the hoverbike and got on it. As the hoverbike ascended to the air, the shield and the invisible mode was automatically activated. The same scenery then filled my vision as we went back to the base, although this time the scenery was reversed.

A little more than six minutes went by before the sight of the base met my eyes. I noticed that Brown was awaiting our arrival in the distance. He was pacing back and forth while frequently peeking up the sky.

When we were about a kilometer away, I turned off the invisible mode. Seeing that we were approaching, a relief expression formed on his face. The hoverbike then descended not far from him.

"Welcome back milord and milady. I had been expecting your safe return." Brown bowed slightly.

"Yes." My head nodded before inquiring: "So, I expect there hasn't been any anomalies happening here, right?"

"Indeed. Milord doesn't need to worry as the construction had been progressing smoothly since the golems worked tirelessly."

"Good." My head turned to Lillie before telling: "Lillie, you must have been tired. Better take a rest in the ship."

"Uh-huh~," She agreed with a nod.

"Brown, please escort Lillie."

"Yes!"

Not a second passed after Lillie and Brown were no longer within sight, I began to murmur: "Now let's see…. There was already quite a lot of gole— I mean robots being made and there were also tons of metal collected. I think it's about time to construct a Mind Hall."

After deciding my next move, I ordered ATHENA to control the robots and began the construction of the Mind Hall. Since at least a hundred robots were doing the construction, it finished in nearly just a blink of an eye. Satisfied for the swift completion of the Mind Hall, I grabbed the corpse of the suicide knight which had been kept at the empty freezer in the ship.

From what I know, the Mind Hall is a building that was able to extract a memory of a living and non-living being. Although the state of the brain must still in good condition to be extracted.

As I went in, the sight of the interior, which was full of big strange-looking, glass-encased tubes with much bizarre-shaped equipment inside, entered my eyesight. The big looking tubes were obviously used to extract the memory.

Before placing the knight body into one of the big tubes, I realized that there was a Simulation Pod and a hologram projector placed at the side of the wall. Heh… Does that pod would allow me to extract someone's memory into my brain and vice versa?

Unexpectedly, a cheerful voice ATHENA answered my question: ["Master~, the simulation pod could allow not only access to someone's memory, but it would also be able to alter their memories and brainwash them. There are also many more possibilities that could be achieved by it."]

Goosebumps creeped out all over my body after being suddenly told that, so I asked: "Wait, did you just read my mind?"

["No, by examining master's facial expression and doing some calculation of factor. Determining such a thing is a walk in the park in human metaphor."] Wait, what? She became smarter and smarter over time. That A.I. enhancement must have an advanced machine learning in it.

"Is that so? Then start the extraction!"

["As you command, master~!"]

Before long, the equipment inside the tube automatically attached to the head of the knight. A few moments later, a set of data appeared on the hologram projection, showing all kinds of memory that the knight experienced in his life. His birth, secret, death, and even a memory that he had forgotten were in there.

"Scanning all of it individually will take too much time even by accelerating it. ATHENA, compile all the important memory and set it into categories."

["Yes… Initiating compiling memory…. Compiling completed…"]

Subsequently, a compiled projection of memory got into my helmet. There, the most important part of his memory was projected. I could see all kinds of secrets and deep knowledge about this world that I never known before.

This… who would have thought that this world is much larger and dangerous than what I had previously thought!? The existence of Knight and Magus itself is game-changing in this world. Here was shown that the higher up Magus able to destroy mountains and move an ocean in a single flick of a hand.

Although it's probably an exaggeration, this nonetheless was a crisis that I need to take care of sooner or later. After all, his higher-ups which came from the Razel Dukedom was the main perpetrator and seemed adamant to capture Lillie.

Out of the blue, a line of memory glimpse into the edge of my eye, I couldn't help but stunned: "Hmm? What's this? A knight breathing technique? Razel Knighthood Knight Breathing Technique…. Even though it wasn't the best out there, it had a quality that cannot be underestimated."

With that, I held my chin in contemplation. It was said that countless people in this world dreamed to be a knight. It wasn't only for glory and riches that they would get but also an extraordinary power that came after it. If it all true, then….

No… there are too many unknown variables to consider. I need ATA to thoroughly scan and examine this to determine whether it was safe to use or not. Heh… if ATA could make a better version of this by comparing the knight's experience, wouldn't that be wonderful?

Nevertheless, only by having power, would one be able to determine their own fate and not depend on others for their life. In case the robot army was to be destroyed or…. I would be able to at least protect myself.

As my hands were clenched in a determined fist and my eyes wandered in a dream to come. A sudden cheerful voice of ATHENA woke me up awake: ["Master~! The drones had spotted hundreds of humans approaching the base from the north. Proceed with showing?"]

"What!? Did they discover this place? No, that's too fast…. Show me the projection!"

Just then, a projection captured by the drone was projected. I could spot at least a few hundred people in ragged clothes were desperately running from across the river. It was as if something were chasing after them.

"Weird…" I had my hand navigated the hologram and made the drone ascended the air to see the far distance. What was seen was a group of cavalries wearing a soldier uniform and armed to the teeth was in the middle of galloping their horses. They seemed to be aiming at the refugees.

So, this was the case…. But if they come from the north, aren't that mean…. What should I do here? Intervene or not…. Wait, this could become a testing ground as well as my way to get Lillie's revenge.

Thereupon, I turned my back and ordered, "ATHENA, prepare all the robots to get armed and ready the advanced helicopter troop transport!"

["As you command, master~!"]

One hour ago, in a mansion of a gloomy city.

A shrewd plump middle-aged man gazed at the aide in front of him furiously before bellowing: "WHAT DID YOU SAY? A group of peasants from Penrith village managed to escape? You fool! There are soldiers and cavalary protecting the south!"

"Lord, please be patient… I had sent the cavalry to chase after them… they should have captured them by now." The elderly aide bowed in a fearful expression.

Suddenly a harrumphing sound came from a gloomy middle-aged man with a skull staff: "Hmph! As I thought, it was a mistake to choose you as the substitute lord."

'Damn… Houston… even if you were a 5th Rank Magus Apprentice, you had been a dead weight all these times.' Lord Andrei thought furiously in his heart before making a forced smile: "Sir Houston, I heard the fame about sir's capability before. Sir must have a way or two to solve this, right?"

"I know that you were trying to bait me. It's irritating but it's my job to help you." The second he said that statement, Sir Houston chanted a strange mantra of a spell before a silhouette of something flew to the outside and out of sight soon after.

Seeing what happened, sweat trickled down Lord Andrei's plump cheeks before he said in gratitude: "Thank you for your help."

Sir Houston just rolled his eyes in response.
