Chapter 9 Cat's Bed

The next day, I was visiting a store on my day off.
Incidentally, this morning, Mashiro looked at me strangely as I left the house to go out on a day off.
Did she think I was the kind of person who would never go out on a day off? What a clever cat.

As I wandered around the store, I looked for the product from the commercial that Mashiro and I had watched last night.
It would have been one thing to buy it online, but I thought it would be more reliable to actually see and feel it in person.

It may be obvious to others, but I was surprised to find a tremendous variety and number of other pet products on sale.
The majority of the products were pet supplies for dogs and cats, but there were also a large number of other animal products on display.
To be honest, just looking at the products here was enough to kill time, and the lineup was so diverse.

As I continued, I arrived at an area with many cat products.
From food and toys to collars and harnesses, there was a wide variety of items to keep me interested.

Next to the area, there was a large cat tower on sale, taking up a lot of space.
I stopped when I saw the cat tower, which was as tall as I was.
It seemed a little strange to have such a large one in a household with only one cat, but I wondered if Mashiro would want something like this, too.

In a cramped room like mine, she can’t run as fast as she would like, and it’s probably too early to let her out.
However, there was a big possibility that the lack of exercise left her too much energy.
I think it’s worth it to buy something that will allow cats to be active.

Well, I don’t have the space to put such a large cat tower in my room in the first place, so I can’t do anything about it at the moment.

—Then I realized, my objective was distracted by unrelated things.
When I looked around again, I found a row of them a little further away.
I walked over to it, and I found a shelf filled with cat beds, which was the purpose of my visit.

It didn’t take me long to find the product I was looking for.
I was relieved to find that the size, texture, and material were all just as I had anticipated.

There were three different colors and patterns to choose from, and although I was a little worried, I ended up choosing the simplest and safest one.
Somehow, I think the more relaxed-looking ones are more in line with Mashiro’s tastes…

It was easy to get distracted in a store like this, but since there was nothing else I planned to buy, I checked out with the bed.
I want to minimize the time Mashrio spends alone. Also, I simply want to give her this bed as a gift as soon as possible.

Although Mashiro isn’t human, it might be a little misguided to look forward to seeing her reactions.
Even though I knew that, the thought of giving it to her as a gift gave me a unique sense of nervousness.
Would she like it? Would she use it? I went home with such small worries and anticipations.

“I’m home~”

As I opened the front door and walked in, Mashiro peeked out from the living room.

“I bought Mashiro a gift today.”

I held up the plastic bag and showed it to Mashiro, who approached me with a curious look.
I bent down and gently stroked her head, and she narrowed her eyes. I stroked her as much as I could without damaging her mood, and moved to the living room.

I sat down in the corner of the room, which was Mashiro’s usual spot, and unpacked the thing I bought.
Mashiro did the same, sat down beside me, and watched the scene with her tail wagging.

When I took out the contents, the bed appeared just like the package.
The size and touch were exactly as I imagined. As far as the touch was concerned, it was better than I had imagined, it was perfect.
I put the bed I bought next to the cat-shaped cushion Mashiro always used.

“It’s the bed that was on a commercial the other day. I bought it for you…”

As if on cue, Mashiro carefully sniffed the bed with great interest.
After that, she punched it a few times, and then she finally climbed onto the bed.

She pawed at the bed for a while, then curled up and lay down to see how it felt.

“How is it? How does it feel to sleep in a new bed?”

Mashiro didn’t reply, but closed her eyes and began to breathe quietly in her sleep.
As I watched her for a while, I began to feel comfortable drowsiness as well.

Mashiro seemed to have grown quite fond of the bed and was sleeping happily.
I felt a little uneasy, but the combination of happiness and relief soon made my consciousness fade away.

I gently reached out my hand to slowly stroke Mashiro’s back.
Feeling the touch and warmth, I fell into a deep and soft slumber.
