Married To A What?!

Chapter 28 - Trapping the Spy

"Breaking news! The young billionaire Itachi Uchiha was seen rushing to the A&E today when he was travelling to the charity gala today. The suspect of the horrific car crash is a man in his mid-thirties who was tested positive for alco-"

Danzo turned the television off and took a sip of his coffee. It was nine at night and two months before his plan finally succeeded. The world might blame the drunk driver for the misfortune but Danzo knew better. After all, it was very hard to separate the fox bodyguard from his target. His spy did a great job of cutting the CEO's brake wires. Staging the accident was child's play. All he had to do was have Kabuto mind control one of those useless bums and it wasn't very difficult to do that in a busy city like Tokyo.

"Who is on duty with the CEO today?" Danzo asked his spy.

"I am," the spy replied and the snake smirked. This was way too easy. The wolves placed too much trust in their family and family was what would be betraying them.

"Finish him off and let Kabuto in. We will use his corpse and take over the Uchiha Empire before stabbing the foxes where it hurts most. Hagoromo Gitsune might be dead but I, Danzo Shimura, will never forget the grudge between our clans."

A long time ago, snakes and foxes were equally hated by farmers and that was way back before humans built shrines to worship them. The fox and snake were crafty and decided to make a team to watch each other's backs while they stole from chicken farmers. Snakes loved eggs and foxes loved chicken so they made a very good team.

After a while, the foxes grew lazy and decided that it was easier to get food by befriending farmers. So instead of stealing chickens, they started hunting crows who stole crops from the poor farmers. The farmers became happy with the foxes and treated them well while they constantly tried to kill snakes who stole eggs. They started building shrines to thank the foxes who helped them prosper. It was also the foxes who told the farmers snake gall bladders could be used to cure certain illnesses that they became hunted and worshipped.

How could Danzo forgive such a thing? Now that Hagoromo Gistune was no more, it was time for her descendants to pay the price.

The pale werewolf bowed and left, pulling on a blank porcelain face mask over his face. The katana on his back was the only thing that stood out but the rest of his black clothing blended into the shadows of the night perfectly. Sai might not have been trained as a samurai but he was a very apt ninja. With a little brainwashing magic, it wasn't hard for Danzo to control him. Of all the werewolves, Sai had the most insecurities and it wasn't hard to worm their way to control his mind.

Kurama and Kakashi lay in wait for the spy to turn up. The accident was real but Itachi's condition was fake. the CEO was safe in the company of his younger brother and mate. It wasn't very difficult to arrange conveniently positioned passers-by to be in the area when the crash happened. The media would never pass up such a huge gossip and Kurama was glad that everything was progressing according to plan.

"He's here," the hunter told the alpha werewolf and they readied talismans.

Outside, a certain witch kept a keen eye on the window. If Kakashi didn't plead with her so urgently, she wouldn't have bothered. She looked over to the alpha werewolf lying on the hospital bed with a black wig and rolled her eyes. This was ridiculous.

Still, the spy came through the window just as predicted and unsheathed his katana. Nobody moved a muscle as Sai brought it high above his head, pointing the sharp tip at "Itachi's" throat, poised to strike.

Kakashi acted as soon as he heard the loud shattering of glass and threw the smoke bomb before tagging talismans on Sai's forehead. Kurama followed up swiftly and dislocated the werewolf's limbs with precision before shoving a hand in Sai's mouth to prevent the trained ninja from suiciding.

Tsunade wasted no time either and started dispelling the mind control magic.

Back at the snake's nest, Kabuto spewed out a mouthful of blood, startling even Danzo. They were in the middle of a discussion when the mage did that.

"What's wrong?"

The magician took a long time to recover but the pain was still evident on his pale face. "They discovered the spy. I've lost all connections."

Danzo didn't say anything else and postponed their discussion. Kabuto excused himself to recuperate. The snake clan head punched the wall hard, causing it to crack when nobody else was around.

"So close... so close!" he grit his teeth and fumed. Itachi was just a weak human, it wouldn't have taken any effort at all to control him. However, with that vigilant fox by his side, Danzo would have no choice but to go all out against the foxes. The snakes might be lacking in numbers and fighting power but they made up for their weaknesses using poison and wits. What's a fox clan without any heirs or successors anyway? Without Hagoromo Gistune, there was only Naruto left to ensure the continuity of pure-bred foxes.

Taking out that two-bit golden fox wasn't too much of a big deal. He hasn't even m.a.t.u.r.ed yet even though he has a mate. Once Kabuto recovers, he could easily take out that eight-tailed fox. The problem was finding someone strong enough to take care of the werewolf alpha, fox hunter and troublesome witch.

The more Danzo thought about it, the grimmer his expression became. He didn't want to get help from a certain revenant but he might have to ask for their help this time.
