Marryin Off The Spinster

Chapter 13 - COUSIN'S WEDDING

Days passed ordinarily for Kendra. Staying in her room for most of the month of March is making her listless and a fleeting feeling of emptiness is lingering inside with an ample amount of discomfort which is brewing in her heart, as it mixes with the weather's mood. Crouching in her bed, she idly let her mind wander.

A little later, she sat on her bed shaking her head, lied down, sat up again, and messes with her hair just like a crazy woman who lost her sanity recently. She grabbed the nearest pillow near her, hugged it tightly, as she pondered about her life's mistake and wasted opportunities, as she makes excuses for each of them, resulting for her to smack her own face repeatedly. Again, she slapped her face, remembering that one mistake which happened not so long ago at the mall, where she was stubbornly embarrassing herself and getting into an argument over a silly matter. If one could see her in that state, they might actually believed the rumors about her being 'crazy'.

Then suddenly, she remembered something which made her feel edgy. Snapping out from her reverie, her mind wanders to that two words she dreadfully listed in her to-do list: find work.

Yes, find work.

Wait what?

As she thought about it, she should have long been employed if it were not because of her cowardice. Yes, regretting it so much as she chides herself and slapping her face till she's beet red. It didn't make her feel good. Pain is adding fuel to the fire. Her, stomach's churning. Her mind's full of what if's -- 'what if I was as smart as Einstein?' 'What if I was as confident as Ariana Grande?' 'What if I fail?' 'What if they'll hate me?'

Self pity.

Overthinking.

Weak.

She began to get more anxious and frustrated on her self for being so weak. Well, not that she's weak physically. She's quite strong for a girl. Only problem is that, she's weak-willed.

To ease her emotions, she get up from her bed, took her tab and went on to listen to music. However, it was futile. Sweating, her heart pounding, she sat down for a moment to think on what to do, so she took her to-do list to list all the things she has to do. Still, it was not enough as she is fretting over small matters. Then, she went to fix her bed, her bookshelf, her table, everything that is in her room. She went down a couple of times to drink water.

She wring her hands. Breathed slowly, and circled her room. A little later, her nerves calmed down. Calmly, she went on to find a book to read, setting aside all the things she'll need to accomplish for the rest of the days or even months.

Getting absorbed with what she's reading, her phone rings. Startled, she went to look for her phone, rummaging her bag. She found it. The caller was an unknown.

Unknown?

Well, for the record, Kenny doesn't answer calls...much more like, she gets anxious at it. Yep. You can criticize her for being 'unprofessional', which she understand quite well, but it's part of her agony. She never wanted to be like that. She did tried her best. However, it frustrates her, resulting for another reason to dump her phone elsewhere in a silent mode.

So, she didn't answer the call, but waited for it to stop ringing before she messaged the person.

Kenny: Who is this please?

A little later, a reply from the unknown number came.

Unknown: Kenny Rogers! You hermit! Why are you so annoying? Have you forgotten your beloved cousin already???

Kenny sighed relief. C.o.c.king her eyebrow in a mocking way, she smiled. It was just her cousin, Mikhail. Kenny saved the number in her contacts. As a matter of fact, only a few people are listed in her contacts. Before she could reply, her cousin called.

Mikhail: You sneaky lil bitch! You're phone is useless! You'll die single ha ha ha!

Kenny: In the first place, Cael, you were never on my contacts. Secondly, I have a hunch you are contacting me just to mock me for being single AF, right? And lastly, where did you effin' found my contact number?

Mikhail: Ouch. That hurts. You know, I'm your closest cousin. You should have my contact at least, just in case emergency situations arises, who would you call? I bet you don't even have that much in your contacts. It's not a hunch but a fact. And for that second question, the answer is a yes and a no. Well, I'm here to remind you of how ---

Kenny *rolls her eyes as she continued what Mikhail was supposed to say, sarcastically*: ...lonesome my life can be and yours is 'oh so perfect!' because you found the love of your life...bla bla bla bla. Wait. Shouldn't you be the one to encourage me instead of making fun of my lonely heart?

Mikhail: Funny how you filled the gaps, but you know I love you. It's how closest of kin should treat each other. That's lovvvve.

Kenny: Ha...ha...ha...I hate chu.

Mikhail: Well, kidding aside. I am calling you because I know, I really know, that you will never show up.

Kenny: Show up what?

Mikhail: On my wedding day, remember?

Kenny: Oh I remember, clear as the day that prince charming is getting married to his princess. Lovely! Heck, nothing lasts forever.

Mikhail: Bitter!

Kenny: Okay, I will come on your wedding day. So, in cash or in kind?

Mikhail: You...don't ever think of giving me candies. Better give me something to be used in our daily lives.

Kenny: Ugh! Mom will take care of it.

Mikhail: Go and work your b.u.t.t off, young lady.

Kenny: Shut up. You're only older than me for a couple of months, you know.

Mikhail: Ha ha ha! Well whatever. So, I'm hanging up now.

Kenny: Wait. Wait. Wait. You said I'm your favorite cousin, why is it I haven't seen this bride-to-be yet?

Mikhail: So outdated!

Kenny: What?

Mikhail: Never mind. You'll see her on our wedding day. Anyways, go get yourself a boyfriend. 3 years later and you'll be out of the calendar. Ciao!

Kenny: ...

The call ended just like that.

Although she is close as to go out and strangle her cousin for making jokes like that, but honestly, that call saved her mind from getting worst. She felt her stressy self calmed down like that after taking the call. But really, she did forget about her cousin's wedding, as she didn't plan on going. Unfortunately, that lad won't stop till she comes tho.

Now, all she could ever think of is to go out, breathe and go to the mall to do a little window shopping. Yes, a breather. She needs it. Going out is a good choice.

However, there's a bit of a problem. She feels apprehensive about going back to that mall, she only has a spare money for her fare and that mall is the nearest one she could think of going.

And she perfectly knew why.
